Frankly, I don't know how to feel about this drama. It's not like it's bad, there are some light moments sprinkled here and there, alongside some necessary drama and angst. But for some reason I just don't feel much about it. There aren't any big flaws, the story was engaging, the characters were unique and interesting, but just as there are no big flaws there are also no big merits that made this stand out for me. It was just an ok story played by an ok cast that I don't regret watching. The type of drama that is suitable for when you have a lot of free time.
P.S. Ariel Lin's acting was SUPER natural, down to even the smallest of gestures. Gotta give her a thumbs up for that! Dong Fang Shi was such an interesting and charming villain, I ship him with the FL. Vin Zhang's character fell bland towards the end.
Theres Chinese sources who said this two leads won’t be returning to season 2!
The director said it's likely they won't be returning but he knows the fans would want the original cast so he said when they start the production they will ask for the netizens' opinion.
Jin Mi was funny but I never liked her.... I never liked Phoenix... I dropped it after 17 episodes. I don't like…
Originally I felt the same too, but when I carried on, I realized how good it was. This drama starts getting good at around 20 something episodes actually. Then after around 40 episodes, it becomes a masterpiece that I can never forget. You should definitely give it another try ;)
Man, they did my boy Xufeng so wrong throughout this entire show. He should be praised for his patience and willingness…
Ikr and aside from that he was constantly portrayed as being stupid and clueless about everything. Screenwriters did him dirty through the entire show. He's supposed to be the god of war but he keeps being outsmarted and never questions anything suspicious. He listens to whatever people say to him and never tries to find out the truth by himself, and he only knows about all the important things by the end of the show. That all doesn't make sense. I heard he's smarter in the novel. It appears to me that the screenwriter is a big fan of the second male lead so he gets way more screen time and backstory and character depth.
Well I almost missed this masterpiece. I had no interest in chinese dramas, and mostly chinese fantasy dramas.…
SAME. I usually avoid C-dramas esp long ones and ones with bad cgi, but this was so exceptionally good that none of that mattered. I just finished the last episode today and it left a huge dent in my heart that I will never forget. Such a beautiful story with amazing actors that lived out the roles.
i just want to know if Jimin is gonna mature a bit personality wise or if she's gonna keep going on with the 8…
She changes a lot throughout the story. Esp when the plot starts getting emotional and she experiences some dramatic ups and downs. She's barely recognizable as the original person by the later half of the story.
I just finished watching this drama and it completely WRECKED me. There's nothing that moved me like this drama did. I seldom watch Chinese dramas or dramas with over 20 episodes because they take too long to finish, so I hesitated a lot before I finally picked up this series. But this turned out to be one of my favorite dramas of all time. The dramatic, groundbreaking love story was so beautiful that it made me smile like an idiot and cry like a baby. The story was just too unbelievably good. The leads were great too but the second male lead completely stole the show with his amazing acting and dazzling aura that fits the role perfectly. Also the very first villain that I have ever empathized with and rooted for. This is really a must watch, and anyone who hasn't watched Chinese dramas before (probably for fear they are too long and not worth the investment) should really choose this one as their first C-drama. It might destroy all the other C-dramas you watch in the future as it is difficult to find another similar genre drama that can top this one (except probably TMPB).
is this really worth watching, would yall recommend it especially for those who are not fond of dramas like this?
Surprisingly I liked this more than Eternal Love. Maybe it's because I really like dramatic romances about life, death, betrayal, reconciliation, love and hate. Although Eternal Love also somewhat had these elements, it's still tame compared to Ashes of Love. AOL has that passionate love that really moves me and it's beautiful.
I watched with Chinese subs only, but I believe someone has been English subbing it for a while: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1k37Kvdp8E Might not be fully subbed yet tho
Just finished watching this and I gotta say it's a guilty pleasure type of drama. The plot is all over the place especially towards the end, the ending is the most rushed I have ever seen in my life, and the amount of plotholes and unexplained occurrences is HUGE. This really is the type of drama where you have to lower down your IQ on purpose to thoroughly enjoy. And by doing so, I enjoyed it much more than I should. The romance is so well done! Chemistry is off the charts, and the intimacy is realistic. Everything else is probably just for decorative purposes, even the plot, so I guess we shouldn't take it too seriously. Lol.
Such a hidden gem... one of the best horror comedies I've ever seen and I love how it pays tribute to the passion for film-making! Th first 40 minutes were very confusing and many people left the theatre, but what happened afterwards was a masterpiece. This film is really much more than meets the eye.
Just finished ep.35 and, my oh my I'm developing a second lead syndrome! I'm really surprised cuz I started off not liking Dong Fang Shi but now that he gets more private time with our Bu Qi he's actually kinda cute when he's jealous. I don't normally like bad boys but the way he gets flustered for her and does everything just to win her heart just makes me smile.
The way the director focused on the letter at the end of Ep 10 is very telling. T_T
I don't think they'll die, but they might separate. Ha Seon will have to escape from the palace after he gets discovered, but he probably won't be able to take the queen with him.
P.S. Ariel Lin's acting was SUPER natural, down to even the smallest of gestures. Gotta give her a thumbs up for that! Dong Fang Shi was such an interesting and charming villain, I ship him with the FL. Vin Zhang's character fell bland towards the end.
