I'm one of those who are actually rooting for the romance. Though I agree it shouldn't be TOO much and take away the story. I think a good balance between romance and drama is very important to me, and this drama has the potential to pull it off well.
The first time I watched a vampire movie was Twins Effect which is a Hong Kong movie. I thought it was pretty interesting and the portrayal of vampires was quite accurate. I was also a big fan of vampires in my childhood but there weren't any outstanding works that strengthened my liking. To me, Twilight was a horrible experience (sorry if this offends you lol) and I thought it was a wasted potential cuz I'd love to see a good vampire movie or TV show too.
I really want this show to get dark, I mean they killed a child so I think it has the potential to do more.
Finally a REAL historical drama that's as mature as a movie! I know there are other ones like that but this one is played by a younger cast that piques my interest. YJK as the king was so freaky in a good way. Really looking forward to seeing more real (dark) stuff.
Haven't seen a kdrama that gave me so many butterflies in the stomach for a long time... Latest episodes were so sweet they kept me smiling from start to finish
Please recommend me another drama like this (not plot wise, more like the feelings it gave you) - it's the first…
Maybe Thirty But Seventeen cuz both have this pure and light feeling to it. They are both about subtle sweetness in daily life and cohabitation and I enjoyed both dramas so you could give it a chance too.
I think the best way to convert a person is to first know the genre they like to watch, and then recommend accordingly. Here are my personal recommendations by genre:

One of the reasons why people hated this drama is how realistic it actually was. It was so realistic that it seemed unrealistic because we are too accustomed to things going well in dramas and characters being perfect. This drama portrays toxic and immature people with insecurities, just like many people in real life who just don't show it on a daily basis. This drama talks about love and its complexities, such as bringing each other down because of too much love, miscommunications, lack of understanding, and in turn separating due to understanding. This is how real relationships are like. People start with being toxic, self-centred, insecure, unclear of how to include another in their lives, and they eventually grow up and learn from it. This drama is exactly about this -- the most annoying and obnoxious things about relationships that are hidden behind lover's backs that you won't know are happening around you every second. I'm considering to finish watching this after dropping it because of the ratings. But I think it deserves a second chance from me cuz I know the messages it is trying to convey and I think it was successful in conveying it.
After this drama ends, you guys gotta watch Nine Time Travels cuz it's awesome and the best work from this writer!! It's my favorite drama but it's so underrated and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves now since the writer has become more well known after this drama and W. Nine is a masterpiece, give it 4 episodes chance and you won't be disappointed.
Korean drama's idea of masculinity borders on sexual harassment and stalker behavior. Then again it can come across…
To a certain extent it's true that some kdramas portray non-consented and forced skinship as romantic when in real life it shouldn't be acceptable, but I'm sure people are sensible enough to distinguish between what is ok for them and what isn't in real life. Plus, it's natural instinct for a human being to pull away from a person's advances if they do not show interest in that person or are not close enough with that person to be intimate with them. "And it all depends on how the feelings of the lady." This is a given, since legally it isn't sexual harassment if the other party doesn't think it is. However, it's wrong to assume that 1. all ladies bow down to good looks, 2. anything a good-looking male does will be deemed acceptable and 3. everything that is shown on tv will be learnt by people without any individual judgment.
There were people here in the comment section that criticized the second lead's stalking behavior, and there were also people who disliked the male lead because he was unfriendly at the beginning. This shows that people have the capacity to judge for themselves if these guys are actually doing the right things. Plus, it's not just the guys who are in the wrong. The female lead also stepped into the personal space of the male lead multiple times and was condemned for it by the male lead.
I'm usually not interested in sageuks but this sounds interesting and it's a remake of a blockbuster hit PLUS YJG is in it!! Definitely gonna watch this @@
I'm at episode 9 and the plot is FINALLY going forward. I had a hard time convincing myself to continue watching this and now I'm only watching for the sake of finishing it. So much potential wasted. As a huge fan of the writer's previous work, this is a total let down. It's like very little material that could have been resolved in 8 episodes were stretched out into 16 episodes. Pretty sure lots will be happening in the last few episodes to make up for the slow pace in the first half. This definitely does not live up to Nine or even W.
Latest episodes were so sweet they kept me smiling from start to finish
