Erm I take it to mean they are not just normal best friends. But friends with benefits. From their scenes I don't see them as end game. They are friends who are attracted to each other physically but they are not in love. They can be sarcastic and cruel to each other sometimes esp Mike.
I am sure there will be scenes leading up properly to the ILY confession by Sprite. Quite sure it won't happen suddenly. Both First and Sprite would break up officially (the reveal seals it for First coming after the Salmon affair), Sprite would probably grovel and beg, First continues to reject him, both get hurt, tears and other emotional scenes in between.
If the finale plays out like in the preview I would be super happy. For me, the ILY by Sprite coming after "I don't like you anymore" would be really romantic albeit cliche. This is a BL series. Plenty of cliche are expected😉

What works for me is the great chemistry and eye candy of the leads, RyanFrame ❤️(if say Jack/Mike's actors are the leads I prob won't be so invested in the series).
Also the twins switcheroo theme (always popular and intriguing) plus the college sports setting probably drive in the fans too. The first factor esp (RyanFrame) is what got me completely hooked on the show despite the plot mess!

I have rewatched the preview and I think you and @skip are right! 🥰They jumbled up the scenes in the preview so that last scene where Sprite says "I don't like you anymore" should in the actual episode be followed by an ILY declaration by Sprite (not in preview) and then the passionate scene we see in the preview which begin from kissing from across the net and then progressing to the locker room (do hope it's a long scene lol). 😊
I just noticed that in the "I don't like you anymore" scene and in the kiss scene, First and Sprite are wearing the same shirts (Sprite in blue, First in yellow). So yay a good HEA looks in store in the finale!

In the next scene Sprite said he has stopped liking First. Yes I cried too. Sad tears initially for First's hurt. Then happy tears in that ILY scene. Gosh! Am really happy with the HEA.
