Their relationship got better during the few years in the war and also...
In the novel, DZY always assumed Han Ye had only loved RenAnle and not DZY and he only felt guilt for DZY. After Han Ye fell off cliff, she realised how much love Han Ye must had for DZY that he'd willing to do so much things for her when he thought she's was in Dai Mountain:
1. the sacrifice he done to rescue Wen Shou. DZY only knew of Wenshou identity after HanYe fell off cliff
2. He renovated one part of his mansion to look exactly like her old mansion and put all his letters and gifts. It's only after Han Ye's "death" that she went to there and read all his letters.
3. Han Ye took much trouble to plant the longing flowers that she likes (in drama it was LMX!!)
She knew she loved him but couldn't bring herself to accept their relationship until Han Ye's "death".

According to novel, the next angst will be when DZY declared to Han Ye that she wants to dethrone his father after she found out that his father was truly the mastermind behind the whole thing and cruelly forcing her father to commit suicide, and yet still massacre all the Di families. She said he didn't deserve the kingdom the Di family gave up then. That's truly no turning point for both of them then and Han Ye said he's uncapable and would stop protecting her from then on....

In the novel, Han Ye fell off cliff during the war and went missing for a few years. During then, the king was sick and had to abdicate his throne to Han Ye's youngest brother and he made DZY as regent.

Han Ye's not the vocal or expressive type and he would not talk unless it's necessary especially in the novel. His thoughts and intentions were not expressed out in words but mostly through his inner thoughts narrative. He became a very inward person especially after the deaths of the Di families. He knew his father was constantly planting spies around him and didn't trust him after he changed the edict just to save DZY, and also to ensure that he didn't start investigating the massacre. Thus, Han Ye had to went through so much trouble to get Wen Shou rescued without being suspected.
He was never himself and never live for himself as Anning said.
I find the scriptwriter had overexpressed Han Ye's character especially his interactions with RenAnle that made him looked like a love sick boy!! It's probably challenging in scripting him out unless they constantly put him on narrative mode of his inner thoughts throughout the drama 🙄.

His father was the main culprit, his grandmother did it to cover up her own son

The drama did gave the viewers the impression that Han Ye believes the Di family was guilty . Note that Han Ye said it in front of RenAnle just to bait her in telling him that she had the evidence to overturned the case. He kept asking her and LMX for their plan and they refused to tell him. But when he was sure she had the evidence did he mellow down and didn't stop her from going ahead. He just didn't want her to present her case without proper plan and later would get herself killed since he knew his father was involved.
Han Ye had never believed Di family was guilty and he knew that someone had orchestrated the incident 10 years ago to cause the rifts between the Han and Di. He even started his own investigation secretly together with Minister Wen years before RenAnle appeared in court but this was not mentioned in this drama. At that point, he knew his father was involved because all the evidence and wvnesses were completely wiped off. Thus, he only planned to openly investigate and overturn the case after his father's death and when he took over the throne. Training and educating Wen Shou was part of his plan to make him the next king and return the country back to Di family when he abdicate the throne upon overturning the case.

For the benefit of those who haven't read the novel, the fighting scene at the cliff was not as simple as adapted.
1. Minister Jiang hired 3 Grandmasters to assassinate them and even with Han Ye powerful internal skill, he was not able to beat them. Jian Song who earlier fell off the cliff was rescued by Di Shengtian (DZY's grandaunt) came to their rescue but was too late. Han Ye was not only injured by the sword but suffered a powerful blow on the chest,.. the same spot he had stabbed himself 10 years back when he rescued Wen Shou. So, his injuries was really bad... (for those who wondered why he said he would die even a small stab!).
2. He almost died and RenAnle had to use all her internal power qi to save him. That explained why RenAnle was weak and she lost all her internal qi.
When the wuxia part was omitted, some plot would not make logic sense and the scriptwriter wasn't good in patching up the loops. Sigh...

Mine too... the piggyback scene is heartbreaking 💔.
GongJun's acting is superb here. His portrayal as Han Ye is spot on and is getting lots of praised from the Chinese netizen.

Looking forward to this scene too!! He had gone willful after the cliff scene 😃.
