Both of them still like each other. Actually, he was the one who confronted her first and expected her to feel guilty, unaware of what she had suffered those years. He liked her and wanted to help her without her request. So, I think he was the one who started playing with her.

Why should she feel guilty? She just told the police what she heard. She didn't do anything unfair to him. As a witness, you should not mix your personal feelings with your report. That's what we consider unfair.
Moreover, she had a misunderstanding about his feelings, when he said he felt pity for her. Even she had talked to him, she should tell the exact truth to the police. "I asked him and he said no" or "I believe he didn't do that" does not have value for the police.
I agree that it would be better if she tried to convince the police that he was not guilty, but I don't think anything would be different as long as she rightfully reported the exact truth.
