A movie doesn't need to have a moral message or protagonists with all justifiable actions. Sometimes a story about abnormal people and their interactions is refreshing to watch. I think it's not only the male lead that is not normal, but also the female lead who accepts him may have some sort of masochism.

Some people say that she doesn't act naturally. But in my opinion the exaggerations she uses while acting is what makes her very adorable and her dramas very exciting. I watched her in battle of Changsha and Go Go Squid and can say she adds her own unique aura to the drama that makes it very amusing.

Death of the protagonists is very common in Chinese historical dramas. The problem mostly is the bullshit endings. Like leads don't get together, the whole drama is a dream, the female lead doesn't decide which male lead to chose until the end and stuffs like this. This can't be found out by tags.
This is a 100% romance drama. No extra plot filler or palace cliche. All filled with enjoyable and passionate romance. If you intend to watch romance you won't regret watching it, but if you want some political or war historical drama with exciting palace conflicts and fights or battle scenes, you will become disappointed. OMG! This drama is on another level. Instead of staring at each other or watching the apparently beautiful scenery together or similar boring stuffs, they have real romantic interactions, to the extend that heir most trivial and boring interaction in kissing! Some many different romantic interactions that real husband and wife would do. You can clearly feel real husband and wife flirting and playing with each other. Never seen such a real, passionate and detailed romantic relationship in a historical drama. If you know any historical drama with this characteristic, please tell me. I'm already missing this drama.
There are so many good historical C-Dramas out there, but why a happy, satisfying ending is so rare? what's wrong with Chinese writers? They think a cliffhanger or open ending is so touching or what?
