Passage of My Youth - a beautiful title that connotes youth and growth. Unfortunately, the film is as disappointing as its international title - Love Story in London.
No hate to Jiang Chao (1991) but seriously, who thought it was a good idea to cast him alongside Zhang Zifeng (2001) and Song Weilong (1999)? It did not help that this was filmed around 2016. With their actual ages in mind, the romantic chemistry was nonexistent and both Zhang Zifeng and Song Weilong (who looked like his actual age for once) seemed so out of place during the later years in the film.
Casting issues aside, the writing (both the story and the characterizations) definitely struggled. It did not know what to do or how to tell a story that spans for years.
It's not the worst. It's honestly a light drama and it ~could~ be enjoyable once you get past the red flags of the male lead, which isn't so hard if one consumes a shit ton of 2000's shoujo romance. Romance between a naive female lead and a douchey male lead — I'm pretty sure we all have expectations (or the lack thereof) just from that description alone.
But yeah, dramas involving a celebrity and a non-celebrity — their relationship usually gets outed by the media so it was no surprise that this trope was eventually used. What's surprising is how this matter was handled relatively better than the usual.
I haven't seen most of the dramas you mentioned as they are mostly Korean but damn, you mentioned one that still gets me to this day: 1 Litre of Tears. The pain it has brought me is still as clear as daylight—and it's been a few years since I last watched it.
In no way am I disregarding how difficult it was for Aya's family, but it was Haruto who really affected me in the drama. To think that he still had difficulty coping up with grief in the SP, when he himself was already a doctor in that very same hospital, that was just a double kill for my heart. And thank you for mentioning the OST. Konayuki was made for the Aya and Haruto so indeed, it does bring out that lump in my chest.
The camera angles on the second couple’s kisses are so much better and more romantic.
The camera during the kiss scenes of the main couple tends to pan out/move farther away from their faces. Their faces tend to tilt as well or her arms block the view. Lol.
So I may have been frustrated and creeped out at the beginning but I’m not even mad at those. My biggest problem with the drama is that it is simply boring. That’s it. Boring.
His characters in Forever Love and To Fly With You is the definition of the ultimate sweet male lead. His eyes alone could literally scream that he is so deep in love. So charming!

His character was the new, popular, nonchalant student who usually don't care about love, only to fall in love. RIP, my heart.

And for those who are unfamiliar, Win comes from a Chinese descent family and hia is their term for older brother.
but i'm suing for emotional distress if it ends like Cry Me Sad a River too....
