ep 19-20 On Today’s Menu:

Starter:
A delicate terrine of betrayals, subtly infused with whispers of conspiracy, served on a crispy pillow of shattered trust.

Main Course:
The chef’s signature — "a pursuit" , adorned with freshly torn strands of hair, handcrafted combat duets, and an airy foam of strangulation. Bold, dramatic, unforgettable.

Dessert:
No dessert today — yesterday’s emotional overdose still lingers.

Drink pairing:
Aged vintage "Wine of Betrayal" — an aftertaste deceptively smooth, yet with a sharp core, revealing notes of bitter cherry, scorched oak, and a trace of resin, leaving a cold trail of treachery with every sip.

The little second prince — always wearing that pitiful, woeful look through every episode .
At 18 he possesses zero charisma, as if nature itself forgets to grant him even the smallest scrap of royal magnetism. Alas, this is but another sorrow in the long catalogue of the emperor’s family misfortunes. After the firstborn the great ML, his two other children — a daughter and a son — clearly touched by a strange and regrettable genetic mutation.., it seems that destinies conspire against the imperial line.

Yet there is something almost innocent about this second prince. A fragile naïveté that makes one think he is more pawn than player. One cannot entirely blame him — for behind his lack of purpose lurk the machinations of two great conspirators: his mother and grandmother, architects of dreams and plots for his “bright future.” - (classical c-drama trope)

But the intrigue thickens. I harbour doubts about the general — the so‑called “friend” of ML — who stands in the shadows, . Perhaps he sees the throne far closer than anyone imagines, patiently awaiting the moment to reveal himself. The question remains: by what artifice, or door , will he seize it?

Princess problem –experience of destruction is part of freedom

situation analysis: ep 17-18 The lost souls — you can try once to reason with them, but then you must let them follow their own path, even if it leads to their downfall. For the experience of destruction is part of their freedom. Yet that freedom is never isolated: their fall often unleashes a wave of ruin around them, touching those who had the misfortune of loving them.

(1) Why did ML actually let the newlyweds escape? He knows 2ML is very evil, that The Princess isn’t thinking…
2.He acted impulsively under the sway of his feelings; he was truly worried, frozen before the door, unable to move… and at that very moment he spoke almost mechanically. There is also this father‑son opposition that must be resolved — he always tends to oppose, which is also psychological. Personally, I like the idea that he gave clear priority to the one who understood and supported him in that very moment above all else, ( rather than etiquette at the imperial court) amidst all the betrayals he had suffered in the chain of events.

Instead of simply allowing or forbidding it, in my opinion he should have recounted in detail all the acts committed by the prince, so that the young girl could draw her own conclusions — or not — and decide with full knowledge of the causes, rather than blindly following her illusions. To the very end, he let her drift lost in her illusions. That said, he is only a brother; he is not obliged to intervene. Each person is responsible for their own fate, especially when nothing malicious has been done. He could also have told the father — but then, what would we have? A series with only twenty episodes :)

Episode 18 my analyse - in comment ..
08:00 – Sui Ge allows deep anxiety to show in his olive eyes. Those eyes speak for themselves: an acknowledgment of his heart. "Let them wait a little longer," he says, "I am busy worrying about my beloved."(of his heart)

10:00 – I like this. We will wait for an epic confrontation: father versus son—or rather, emperor versus emperor. Bold Sui Ge, daring, plays the role of the “bad guy” in front of the whole palace, while the other prince, consumed by his cowardice, is unable to face an inner duel. He should take example.

17:15 – "She is the fate I am ready to spend my whole life with." This is the first time I have seen in a Chinese drama a prince who speaks the truth directly to the father-emperor without the slightest hesitation. He has never wavered—that is why he deserves to be emperor. One who does not falter, who moves forward, who faces everything with honor and dignity.

Sui Ge, the brave—I love you. He also shows here to the emperor (and to the prince) his own cowardice, which he himself could not overcome. We do not yet know the whole story, but I already suspect it.

18:42 – "Do as you wish." Behind this lies: "Since you believe you are not my son, do as you wish." Human complexity: a mixture of pain, wounded pride, and quiet love. The father–son connection here is shown in depth. Much remains unspoken, many misunderstandings, but the bond remains, like a fragile flame beneath ice.

He shows that in deep human relationships, conflict and love often coexist, and truth is not always easy to give.
28;00The Empress and her father — the classic duo straight out of an Asian drama. You can already feel the “too much” in their behavior; I think they’re doing everything they can to make the second prince take the throne.
29:50 — Moujun’s look at the Empress… and my funny thought: “What if he’s actually the Empress’s son and wants to take the throne?” 😂 I’m still trying to figure out what his real motive is in this whole conspiracy.
30:00 ok They gave poison to the emperor? — a classic trope.

Throughout the minutes of episode 17 in comment
The opening scene is beautifully acted — Chen Zheyuan is touching in his vulnerability, visible in his eyes, and in the sincerity of his words. That firework — it feels like a metaphor for their hearts igniting (and mine too, by the way) — such a beautifully filmed moment! 🌸
...
This whole thing — oh, I laughed so hard when I saw Suj Ge’s face at 11:45 (she brought five men to her house!) 😂 He’ll never have peace with her — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes her so fiery and irresistible.
...
13:22 — “I so rarely hear praise directed at me from your lips…” — and I’d reply, “You’re welcome, I love you, Suj Ge!” 😂 The director framed the shot as if he was talking directly to the viewers — I just wanted to answer out loud! By the way, I really like the actress too.
...
14:57 — The “Lydia Bennet – Pride and Prejudice” type of moment here — no comments needed, I’ve already shared my thoughts (mainly about her brother’s position on this matter…).
Alright, let’s keep watching!...
18:15 — The horse-riding scene is filmed so well! Director, I love you! 🎬 She looks stunning in red on the horse, and she rides beautifully at full gallop! And Feng Suj Ge too — I wonder if they can really ride, or if they used stunt doubles? The music fits perfectly — dynamic, sharp, and full of energy 💣. Maybe the footage was slightly sped up, but still — what an excellent action scene (even if a bit fast-forwarded).
...
29:00 — A web of successive and mutual betrayals...
The woman in red — you’re absolutely dazzling.
...
30:00 — The four looks… then two. They understood everything.
One look full of bitterness, the other with the confidence of a winner — it says a lot about how Yi Xiao now chooses who to kill.
...
32:00 — The other prince is honest and decent with the princess — it’s her choice.
She’s cut all ties with her brother. The brother, once again, is left abandoned.
The other prince also leaves with bitterness in his heart — in a way, he too feels “betrayed.”
Here we see four kinds of love: righteous love, devoted and protective love, mad love, and powerless love — the kind that loses to one’s own ambitions.
...
41:00 — Wow, just wow! What a woman, what courage — I adore her!
There was so much emotion in that scene! I love this song, their kiss, and the flame — now it’s a real flame after the fireworks 🔥
It’s symbolic: after the sparks of fireworks (in Suj Ge’s confession scene), now a true, steady flame burns in their hearts — perfectly expressed emotions (and in mine too). 🔥💞

The director absolutely broke all records here! 🎬
And the whole crew behind the scenes — bravo 👏 — they gave me real emotions.
I’ve never seen fireworks like that before — like giant sparklers, stunning and old-fashioned, a true spectacle ✨
I’m sure this will become a trend — we’ll be seeing it everywhere soon in c-dramas ;(
And finally — Chen, love you :)

There are so many “foolish characters like this in literature.” Here the screenwriter shows us, through this character, the necessity of prudence and discernment in matters of love… I need to watch that escape moment — I’m still so caught up in episode 16 that I’m taking my time… and I take your valid points regarding ML!! thks for reply

thks i m now on ep16 . Yes, of course, even in reality it’s always like that. However, I’m saying this just to understand the logic of the main character, regarding his action and his reasoning…
Since the princess, it’s already clear (she has no chance of survival), she is a character like in many novels, for example in Pride and Prejudice — Lydia Bennet, the same type (there are many examples that could be given).

"FSG told her who he was, " - Please, can you tell me if you remember exactly what he said and how he said it? Maybe I don’t remember, but what I recall is that he just said, “How can you marry my enemy?” Did he say that he betrays everyone for his own interests, that he even betrays his brother and his country, and that he exploits children for the purpose of killing? exploits his friends (Because I don’t take into account the fact that he wants to kill the ML — that’s political, and he is his rival, so it’s normal; he also wanted to kill him, they went to war.) So far, the ML has told all of this only to the FL.
If he said all that, then I have nothing against the ML. He is just and perfect, and I will end the debate. (I repeat, my initial analysis was not related to the princess, but to what the ML did or said, according to HIS logic.)

Ok, I need to keep watching to see all of that :) I’ll say it again, I repeat, I’m not taking the princess’s side. My initial point came from the fact that in episode 16, the ML should be transparent and dont say something like, “I will support you and maybe even come to your wedding.” That’s all.
