predictably i did start to like this less after the soul swap. pre swap the fl's main draw was that she was fearless, strong and she always tried to solve her own problems, now poof all of that is just gone and replaced with a constantly quivering mess 🙄 like are we just supposed to forget what she was like the first four episodes? and he's just over there doing whatever. so disappointing
they have chemistry too and they're wasting it on this nonsense omg
this drama had a lot of the negatives you commonly see in low budget mini dramas but i still recommend it, even…
having said all that though i really dislike stories where the good guys are murdered callously and the bad guys responsible get a soft and compassionate ending, because tell me why leyu was weeping over yin cong in the end? the woman that plotted against her the entire drama and used her to murder her husband, the love of her life! she cried over yin cong as hard as she cried over her husband and that just really sucked.
this drama had a lot of the negatives you commonly see in low budget mini dramas but i still recommend it, even with the ending, which was well done and made sense. a particular callout is fan zhi xin whose performance was stunning, he acts like he is twice his age and has that much life experience to pull from, what an extremely talented guy. hu lian xin's performance was also solid, but his performance was more sophisticated.
another callout was their relationship, so so so satisfying!! i was also a fan of the way the romance was written, it was never the main focus, politics was, yet it was always active in the background, finely threaded through the story and developing alongside everything else.
i didn't want to 😔 , but i finally finished it. i literally cannot think of one bad thing to say, what a wonderful drama! totally recommend! thank you to all the cast and crew for this heartwarming creation 🧡
ep 14 was good, our yuyu's character growth, baby xiao wu stepping out, lin jie and yuyu's b/story.,the only thing i didn't like was that we didn't get to see xiao wu fight ouyang
also can we talk about jiajia? beautiful, sensible, composed but not serious, great style, kills it at her job, knows exactly what she doesn't like, even has a cool biker dad, definitely one of my favorite contemporary fls
i was wondering why yuyu just wouldn't give xiao wu a raise especially as he's not cruel, even xiao wu acknowledges he's softhearted, but after watching for a while you kinda understand lol. the drama doesn't explicitly state it, but you get it
yuyu is an absolute nutcase, but i think that so far the writers do a great job of not making him unlikable. there are pockets in almost every ep where he shows care or thought for someone or something, this reduces his meanness to bizarre. he's really easy to mock, this pokes fun at his self importance. then his relationship with his community (work, family, friends, neighbors, the hospital) is organic (within the context of the drama) and humanizes him greatly, so there's never been a case of 'why do they put up with him?' even if you're tempted to ask the answer is readily available - bc he's valuable or bc they simply want to.
also he kinda parallels jiajia and xiaoman in some ways, him and the rest of the characters are all like pieces of a puzzle that fit tightly into each other to form a full picture, so its kinda hard to single him out and loathe him alone. and finally a lot of credit also goes to wallace huo for playing him with such a deftness and weariness that's hard to miss
cang cang's mind itself doesn't work, she's written to be this pseudo smart character constantly trying to figure things out, but her mind is incapable of putting two and two together. like girl even if they're lying to you, you can't figure out anything by yourself? not even one thing? her dumbness is so absolute and absurdly out of place with everything else, one can only blame the writer. even the insane princess' mind works better, and she doesn't have a quarter of fl's exposure. it is clear that the writer's entire plot hinges on her fl's stupidity, and that's just poor writing
yes yes don't tell her her father poisoned her, so he can do it again someday, sigh. even if he tells her she won't believe him, even if she believes him will she do a thing about it? that girl is not capable of getting her lick back. another sigh. so far you can replace the fl with a cardboard cutout, and the story will still proceed in generally the same direction, third sigh.
an ignorant witless fl and a ml with a savior complex, omg this story is trying to drag us back to what cdrams were ten years ago, shame!! now i finally understand this drama's low rating, at least the ost is good though, everything looks pretty and peng xiao ran weeps so beautifully, so i can keep hate watching it until something else comes along
also to me it feels like he doesn't tell her the truth not just bc of his vow (he doesn't present as that scrupulous, and how is a vow to a hideous criminal more important than his relationship with his beloved?), but more importantly there's an undercurrent that he needs that grudge between them to keep him from completely losing himself over his enemy's daughter.
actually apart from the way the fl is written which i really despise, i have no other problems with the drama so far. even the misunderstandings make sense, from the ml's perspective at least. also peng xiao ran catches every single one of her character's beats, and i don't think i've seen allen ren this engaged with his character since probably under the power.
so all the men related to her are rotten, and she has no clue? she should be way more sophisticated than she is though for someone of her status. oy veyyy the angel that was watching over the fl in rebel princess we need you nowww
