Hello, I also saw that most of the recommendations seem to be heavy on romance and as I'm relatively new to Xianxia…
I get it. Hmm, I would say Love & Destiny, while it is a romance, it's more of a mature and aspirational romance, than the other ones in the genre. It's definitely a romance, but I thought it was different, perhaps because the actors are older.
wow! you did a wonderfull job writing this article.. thank you. Sometimes is really hard to explain the xianxia…
Same! I'm just going to send them this article.
K-dramas are kind of mainstream now, which means that a lot of new drama watchers aren't open to watching C-dramas, and especially not a historical fantasy plot.
Hopefully this article introduces the concept to more people.
I have a tip how to like Xianxia dramas, cos it's a hit-and-miss. Unlike wuxia, you'll admire the martial arts…
So true! Honestly, the VFX has come a far way compared to the past. Another thing that can ruin a Xianxia for me is poor music, costume and set design. The music, especially, really affects how pulled you are into the setting of the show.
Oh wow, where do you read these? I want to start getting into them...These adaptations are taking too long. How do you find the translations, or do you read them in Mandarin?

I would say, most of them have an element of romance, and it makes the story richer. Depending on your "perspective", The Untamed has no romance at all.
Awesome article! I want more people to get into the fantastic and satisfying Xianxia drama, so we can get more high-quality productions. I agree that Eternal Love (10 Miles of Peach Blossoms) is a great starter xianxia. It was my first one in the genre, and I thought the concept was so unique...little did I know it was based on Chinese mythology.
Now, I completely understand the universe, after later seeing Ashes of Love, Love and Redemption, Love and Destiny, "Three Lives, Three Worlds, The Pillow Book" and my love, The Untamed.
These dramas are LONG, and they tend to follow the same plot structure (apart from The Untamed, perhaps due to the mystery element), but the serotonin rush and satisfaction you get is unreal.
If you love deeply complex characters, the human psyche, beautiful costumes and lush music, with incredible settings, you need to give 10 Miles of Peach Blossoms or Love & Redemption a try, because they're great starter dramas for the genre.
If you ever want to talk k-dramas, c-dramas or xianxia, add me as a friend and message me. :)
This has the potential to be good, if they get the screenwriting, production and music right. No matter how good Sean's acting is, it won't be enough to create a good show.
This is so highly anticipated, what if it's not good? I want it out next month, because I need an actual GOOD drama with Xiao Zhan as the lead. I need. Plus, I loved Go Go Squid. I'm not the biggest fan of Yang Zi, but I still feel like Zhan and her will be a good combo.
Sorry i drop it after few episode. I did try to watch it when it's on air. Just in my opinion the story is all…
Why is the music so bad? You can tell they bit off more than they could chew. The writing is off, and there are budgetary issues affecting the output. This drama needed more money and it shows.
This can actually be quite enjoyable if you think of it as a sneak peek into celebrities lives and the things…
Isn't that what the show is about? Maybe the synopsis mislead people, but I came here for the struggle behind fame and the entertainment industry. It helped me realize a lot of things.
I liked it???? It was good! It was a normal slice of life drama with realistic little romance and i enjoyed it!…
Same! I've been enjoying more cdramas lately, but out of the kdramas I watched in 2020, this one wasn't full of the usual tropes and felt very eye opening and realistic to me. I usually can't get past episode 10 of a kdrama these days because it goes into "lazy writing bad trope-mania"
