Such a shame that the rating is so small, this was truly a great season, I gave it a 9,5. I also wanted a different…
No I agree. I also liked the ending very much and enjoyed overall season.
The ending waa very fitting of current societal climate. Gi Hun also spelled out the lesson out loud . Despite at a disadvantage and cost him his life, he stood by his principle. It's the ultimate act of resistance. It's very touching. Humans are not horses. They have their own principles that they live by and unique expriences that shaped their motives , thoughts and purposes.
Yes. The organization, capitalism and injustice will continue, but there are always gonna be people like Gi-hun that will resist because humans are not horses.
Idk, overall it's good enough and I like the ending very much. It's a bit bleak but still very much fitting and mirrors the current societal climate.
Gi-hun may have failed to stop the game, but he did save and change the lives of people (or their families) that he encountered along the way. Sae-byeok's little brother, Cho Sang-woo's mother, and he even unintentionally stopped Noeul from committing suicide.
Let’s be honest, he's bound to lose because he's simply powerless against such organization. But did that stop him? No. Because that is not Gi-hun as a person. He could have left everything and returned to his daughter with the money he won, but he just couldn’t do it. For certain people, even with all the money in the world, they could not simply ignore injustice and bury their guilt, living their life happily like nothing's happened.
And no, I do not agree with people asking, “What’s the point?” The point is, humans are not horses. And Gi-hun proved it with his final sacrifice. Yes, he ended up dead, alone, and didn’t even manage to stop the game but that’s exactly the point. Even if it cost him his life, he stood by his principle. Humans have their individual principle(s), morality, free will(s) , unique experience(s) that shaped their motives , thoughts and actions. It's impossible to simply box them all together and expect them to be one thing; like horses.
This further proven by Noeul who was recruited to be the guard but also ended up rebelling and the manager said himself "I judged you wrongly. You should have been a participant".
Gihun's journey, and the testament of other people about him, showed it to us. When Sae-byeok said, "Ahjussi is not that kind of person," the people trusted him and even followed him through the failed rebellion, Junhee trusting him to save her baby. And him not losing his humanity till the very end. I know for a fact that the frontman did respect him for what he stood for.
If you define someone and their life based on the end point instead of the journey and character progression/arc, then you may feel like it has no point. But I see Squid Game as Gi-hun's story first and foremost.
Obviously, there were flaws, deficient in some characters' writing and even illogical plot .But I think it's good enough. It's good enough to move me and made the point across.
Half-baked plot, illogical conflicts, and questionable characters. None of the conflicts had satisfying resolutions.
Even the so-called Le Murir arc, which dragged on for three episodes. Beom-woo suddenly stopped the buyout, and just like that, everything’s fine. The ex and the female lead were screaming at each other in the hospital, and the next moment, they’re calmly chatting in a car . What was the point of it all?
Then there’s the random 3-star being handed to Jungjae. The owner wasn’t even contacted. They just announced it on TV, and she found out through random visitors at the temple. Atrocious writing.
The recipe theft subplot? Barely addressed. And the grandmother rigging a competition in front of a french respected chef just because she could? LMFAO.
The characters are wildly inconsistent and hard to understand. The female lead is giving whiplash. One moment she is visibly annoyed by the male lead’s presence, and the next, she’s kissing him every time he tries to speak. There was no proper transition and adequate development of the relationship. She also seems driven and passionate about the restaurant, yet she constantly abandonds it and her team whenever she feels like it.
The male lead also has no personality other than being a simp for the female lead and acting goofy. Whatever personality he had in the first episode just dissipated after he fell in love, which was very early.
I still enjoy it though, in a superficial kind of way. It wasnt horrible to the point that i couldnt finish it, but it was nothing to write home about. Just another kdrama that I completed but will not be missed.
Idk the drama feels very shallow. The conflicts and resolutions are a bit unrealistic and very half-baked . The characters are confusing too. Maybe I should not have taken it seriously. I wish the drama simply focuses on the foods and how the characters run and grow the jeonju restaurant , falling in love in the process instead of having these side quests. It is trying to bite off more than it can chew and now suffers from it
Even without the ex side quest, the writing for the female lead just isn’t convincing enough. We’re six episodes into a 10 epi drama, and I still don’t feel like I know her. She’s all over the place. Sometimes she seems to be warming up to the male lead, and other times she looks utterly annoyed by his existence. Like, what’s her deal?
Also, the male lead acting like a total simp in episode 6 just came off as pathetic. I get that it’s a rom-com and his narrative is meant to be unserious, but it’s honestly unbearable at this point.
They really need to establish their relationship properly and flesh out the female lead’s character before trying to make the simp narrative feel endearing. Right now, it just looks ridiculous.
The appearance of the ex only highlights how weak the character writing has been, that was masked by the fun interactions between the 4 characters in previous episodes.
Only 2 episodes in but I Iam overwhelmed with a lot of emotions already. I love all the characters . Incoming pains and good angst are expected judging by the writer's history.
I watched two of the writer previous works ( Youth of May and we all cry differently) and she loved some good angst. There were not necessarily depressing, just good amount of angst with a lot of heart and lessons.
It was good. I enjoyed it so much. It does entice some reading on korean culture , folklore and history after watching it , to better appreciate the details.
This is exactly what I would expect from an occult thriller. The non existence jumpscares and scary elements but instead condensed with folklore , history and symbolism (giving that eerie and unsettling feelings)
I also think the plot is simple enough to follow, even with minimal understandings of the underlining folklores . I was abled to engage with the storyline despite missing some of the refencings. I then read about the explanations/ discussions and did a rewatch with the newly gained understandings. It was such a fun exprience.
I adore occult thriller that made you interested enough to learn about certain cultures.
Hearing KNETZ and INTER praising Lee Jae Wook beyond amazing acting, make me wish that Lee Jae Wook switch his…
Mmm no. Imo, they were casted right and as it was meant to. Jae Wook as Tae Sang with the intensity and Dohyun as Geunwoo. Geunwoo has this playfulness and childish flavour that dohyun exudes which fits the mood for that particular reincarnation.
i dont get the schedule. can someone please explain? i just finished ep4, when will the next eps be released?
Part 2 or the rest of the episodes ( ep5-8) will be released on January 5. Like other commentor mentioned, they released the episodes as such to secure subscribers.
why would he even be mentioned come on we didn't even expect that he would be there in season 2
He actually filmed death game after he completed tgbm (last project he filmed before his enlistment). Thats why when ra mi ran mentioned another two shows, his fans assumed it might be sweet home. Tgbm filming actually overlapped with SH2 and SH3 filming.
But yeah, you could be right tho. Maybe the director's definition of main characters are not likr how we perceived, considering how he treats song kang characterin season 2 ughhh.

He already filmed Season 3 before he enlisted. The director mentioned that Enuhyuk is going to play an important role in Season 3, not just a cameo. Yeah, he actually juggled all the filming. I don't know how he did it. Ra Miran mentioned during the 'Good Bad Mother' interview that Dohyun was filming for two other shows while working on TGBM, suggesting he must be having a hard time. I believe the three shows were TGBM, Sweet Home Season 3, and Pamyo
Despite his
flaws, he's truly a good and principled guy and , and i feel like the series explored his character arc quite well.

I think the ending is very poetic and humans

Anyway, Go youn jung and lee dohyun in another drama is a need.
