The women aren't portrayed as being there just for men. The men are portrayed as being dumb, hence why they act…
Oh, so my comment from three years ago bothered you so much that you had to crawl into my notifications and drag me out of dormancy? Imagine being that pressed over someone pointing out the obvious. Let me spell it out for you: yes, I'm nostalgic for this goofy little drama, yes, I still think it's a 10 on my nostalgia scale, but guess what? Nostalgia doesn't erase the fact that the breast objectification was so relentless it made me physically uncomfortable back then and still does now.

And honestly, the way you're bending over backwards to defend it is embarrassing. The men are dumb, so it's fine? Really? That's your grand defense? Ma'am, making everyone a caricature doesn't absolve the show of being shallow, it just makes it worse. And this whole it's about a school that admits boys based on looks thing? Congratulations, you just highlighted how laughably vapid the premise is. That doesn't disprove my point, it proves it.

What's crazy is that I'm not even coming for your enjoyment. Like what you like. But if my critique was enough to trigger you so much that you had to beef with someone from three years ago, maybe spend less time clinging to bad arguments and more time asking yourself why a valid observation has you so riled up. You can't handle discourse? You hate women? Internalized misogyny, perhaps? Pick one.

some similarities between 2 shows1. In both MLs came from modern word.2. Both MLs pulls great poems out of their…
Yeah, that checks out. I’m now on episode 10 of JOL, and there’s definitely some parallel between the ML’s journey and the obstacles they face. It’s slowly becoming clearer why WeTV heavily marketed it as being comparable to JOL. There are characteristics that only become apparent as you watch further.

Why comparing an unrelated drama?? Joy of life is not a time travelling concept because of the sensor issues.…
Look, no one said you couldn’t share your opinion, so let’s not make this about that. I wasn’t offended; I was simply responding to your points logically. If you felt otherwise, that’s on you, not me.

You jumped into the discussion making assumptions and now seem to be backtracking. If you made mistakes, that’s fine—everyone does—but that has nothing to do with me. I was just addressing what you said.

And I do hope things get better for you personally, but let’s keep this discussion about the drama itself. If it’s feeling like too much, maybe taking a step back would help. No hard feelings.

Why comparing an unrelated drama?? Joy of life is not a time travelling concept because of the sensor issues.…
First, tone it down. If you’re not updated on current C-drama discussions, just say that; no need to act like I started the comparison when it was already a thing among drama fans. If you’re a Joy of Life fan, you should be unfazed since it’s JOL fans who keep insisting it’s still supreme.

Now, let’s go through your points one by one:

1. “Why compare unrelated dramas?” I didn’t. I’m watching Guardians of the Dafeng to see why these comparisons exist and quickly realized they’re baseless. The only similarity is that both have modern people transmigrating (not time traveling, which you wrongly assumed). That’s it.

2. “JOL isn’t time travel because of sensor issues.” That’s irrelevant to my point. I never claimed it was time travel, so this argument doesn’t apply to me.

3. “The drama has a high budget and novel fans.” Good for them. That has nothing to do with whether I personally find it engaging or not.

4. “Costume changes from S1 to S2 due to a gap.” Again, not my concern. I noted that the styling and costume design were rough but was willing to overlook it because of its age. The real issue is the storytelling and world-building, which don’t work for me.

5. “Zhang Ruoyun is underrated intentionally; Dylan has more international fans.” How is this related to anything I said? My comment wasn’t about the actors but about the drama itself.

6. “His drama isn’t getting much because of industry issues, not JOL.” False, again go on chinese social media and you will see.

7. “If you compare things, you can’t enjoy great things.” That’s just not true. People compare dramas all the time to assess quality, storytelling, and engagement. And even without comparing, JOL is just not hitting for me.

At the end of the day, my original comment was just my personal opinion, which I absolutely have the right to share. If you disagree, that’s fine, but don’t act like I made false claims when I didn’t. I’m not here to argue; I’m just stating my thoughts. Simple as that.

Never understood why people compared Guardians of the Dafeng and Joy of Life since the dramas are very different.…
Its sooo different. I’m watching both because I really needed to know what the hate was all about. So far I’m perplexed, they’re both different genres and style the only common denominator is transmigration.

Is this really the masterpiece everyone has been raving about, saying it surpasses GOTD? I’m giving it a fair chance because the ratings are so high, and GOTD was heavily criticized for not measuring up, but so far, this isn’t nearly as engaging. The styling and costume design are pretty rough, though I’ll overlook that since it predates better production standards. But in terms of world-building and adventure, it just isn’t drawing me in. I’ll definitely finish it, but I can’t help but wonder if the high ratings are due to nostalgia or if it just isn’t hitting the same after watching so many great dramas. Was this really groundbreaking six years ago?

They hired a Xiaohongshu makeup artist instead of a professional one. The long shots where they just focus on the characters walking feel so weird and unnecessary. It’s like they’ll film any actress slowly walking even when the scene isn’t that important. Usually, you’d save that kind of shot for a major turning point in the drama, but here, it just comes off as strange—almost like they’re shooting a promo for the styling instead.

Person Dylan Wang
Yeah. I dont understand some people hate him. There are also many other actors there, but only Dylan got bullied…
My theory and my objective observation is that he has so many haters because most of them are men.

There’s no doubt that he’s handsome, but his appeal is different from the kind of attractiveness that women typically admire in male celebrities. Women acknowledge that he’s cool and attractive, but Dylan Wang checks all the boxes of what many men strive to look like and exude in charisma: his haters are green with envy.

He has that effortlessly masculine, bad-boy aura that many men wish they had, and instead of admitting it, they nitpick. They criticize things like his background or accent as a way to elevate themselves. On top of that, they dislike that he’s unapologetically confident in who he is, which only fuels their resentment.

At its core, much of the criticism he faces seems less about legitimate flaws and more about insecurity, jealousy, and the discomfort some men feel when confronted with someone who embodies the traits they secretly admire but don’t possess.

I’m not envious of him, nor do I see any fault in him, because he doesn’t threaten me as a woman (not that I lack self-esteem or would feel threatened by a woman who is better than me)—but you get the point.

Nah, but seriously, that last episode gave me whiplash. I’m still not over how completely unhinged it was—just straight-up batshit, defying all logic in the most nonsensical way possible. This drama was never the most logical or well-written, but this? This feels like some exec snatched the pen and said, “Let me handle the rest. I have an agenda. Matter of fact, I have people to offend.”

There’s no way the actors and filming crew didn’t think, ‘this is fucking insane my reputation is gone’. I would pay gold to go back in time and be on set just to see their reactions to the script. It’s just too batshit of an episode. Anyways let me go get a drink and touch grass, this has me spiraling.

oh my god. Please, what the hell is going on? Can someone summarize Episode 12 from midway to the end? I can’t do this—the cringe is actually mind-numbing. I feel like I just smoked shrooms nothing makes sense, is this real life?? who approved this???
On When the Phone Rings Jan 5, 2025
I just about coughed up a lung from laughing too hard. They went ahead and created an entire country at war; not to offend anyone, of course but couldn’t help themselves and slapped some vaguely Arab-sounding music in the background. I’m sorry, but this is insane. Not only is this side story completely random and out of nowhere, but they just had to sprinkle in some ignorance for good measure. Bahahshhshsh what the actual fuck is going on.

edit: so…its wasn’t ignorance…it was propaganda. yeah fuck this.
