is the military guy the one that was said to beat up 17 men (and the told her he did not) ? cause I couldn't tell
This was a conversation Gil Chae had with Jang Hyun before he left. She told him that the military officer said he wasn't the one who beat the 17 men and she's trying to confirm if it was Jang Hyun who was in Qin clothes who beat those guys out but he denied it. .
Okay, I just watched the first episode. Please someone tell me the FL becomes less annoying as the story progresses.
I get what you mean with your question, since she is an arrogant-self centered noble lady and that's her character. As the story progresses her character stays the same, but you'll see more sides of it on every episode. Her side of the story (with character growth) would pick up at around episode 3 when events really starts to become serious and she has to face the reality of war. I'm thinking you'll be able to like her more by then.
I thought the same also at first, but may be he in fact secretely likes the ML and his looks are hints of jealousy…
No, he's actually jealous of her because he's in love with the ML.
His character was described in the MBC page as someone who makes male and female fall in love with him through his voice and looks but he's is someone who's hiding his real affection from the person he truly loves and that's Lee Jang Hyun. Which he dares not to reveal his true feelings.
I think Gu won moo(that military guy) will start to like gil chae during ML and FL seperation.... And some new…
If we follow the real history, the prince saved an interpreter named Kim Sang-heon... so if this is supposedly where the character of Lee Jang Hyun was based of in real life, then he will survive.
IMO, he'll probably influence the prince's decisions on all sorts of things without directly doing so. He's been proving himself again and again despite the prince throwing stuff to him on their first meeting and yet he's still there aiding the prince of Joseon and risking his life.
I would agree though on the love lines as it looks like that officer has a bigger role than he seems to be.
Janghyun is lowkey a revolutionary and I love that for him. I definitely feel that this drama has a progressive…
Also about Yeonjun's outburst, it was weird that it happened all of a sudden and that he turned up being locked up. Just shows how narrow his knowledge in politics is. Aside this, I find the whole situation all weird/misplaced. Though we know that Gil Chae had to go through other hardships and this was part of it, that imprisonment just came out of nowhere. Also I'm dying to know the reason why he refused: was he afraid to die as a representative Or did he mainly do it for his family so everyone would still be able to survive despite him getting locked up?

What happened to Prince Sohyeon in real life was quite sad but that bit I'm looking forward to since I really want to know how they will incorporate his story into this drama. Please tag me when you get all the historical figures down! I tried to keep track but just ended up getting lost in the story of the main characters instead. LOL.

He's not in prison... It's mental hospital cell in that era. They put them in cells to make sure they don't harm other people. But it looks like he/she's still understands what's happening so they're on the edge of being incapable mentally and yet still able to understand or comprehend things.
The guy in the cell could be a woman (which could even be Gil Chae), but this could also possibly be Ryang Eum as he can pose as someone feminine and his character was meant to be a bisexual guy who's severely in love with Jang Hyun.
On Wikipedia, there is this article about the invasion of Qing on Joseon:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qing_invasion_of_JoseonIs…
I was actually thinking of the same thing... but I have to research more about this as most of the names involved in this drama isn't actually in the timeline from the wikipedia article. But this seems to be the same timeline.
Hyo Jo was mentioned in the first episode, which is in the article but Khan wasn't in the article. So maybe they made that part fiction, but there definitely was an invasion and agreement that Joseon will be under Qing's management.
This made me... LOL!!!! HAHAHA! THE REFERENCE!
This will be really an accurate reference if it does end up as a tragic ending.

That's my take for that first episode.
