If someone ask me, who's First Kanaphan? Is he any good? I'm just gonna say, Only Friends ep 2 part 4, timestamp 8:53
When Ray said "You said you're open. Open enough for someone like me?" and then Sand's stare just told me a million words and emotions in just seconds.
I love the freshness of SandRay's aesthetic and dynamic, it's a bit different from the typical BL. It's vintage, nostalgic, impulsive, a bit sloppy and a little bit dark, just perfect. I'm SandRay core now ✨
For anyone wondering about the PG 13 rating, that rating refers to the television version of this series which had some scenes taken out to be able to air on tv. While the full uncut version is on Youtube, with some parts uploaded with age restriction for viewers under 18.
The scene where Sand asked Ray to light up his cigarette reminds me of Troye Sivan's song Strawberries and cigarettes.
And reading the lyrics, I HOPE Jojo keep the same vibe from this song for their love story and relationship 🤞🤞 FirstKhao really suits this raw, aesthetic vibe.
I saw his previous work which is Never Let Me Go, and tbh it's not his style at all. He doesn't suit the delicate, breezy, romantic approach of that series. Which is why I found the direction a bit lacking.
But THIS, this is his world. The rawness, the silence between dialogues, the sloppy-on-purpose angles, the emphasis on sexual tension without using cheap, tacky sensual music that other series would typically use. I'm glad that gmmtv gave him this project.
I know this is a bit out of topic, but honestly guys, I can definitely see First and Khao's big success in the future. Like, I can see them go as big as Offgun (?) when they're seniors in this industry.
I'm not their fan but I'm just a BL enjoyer that loves analyzing films. The Eclipse series writing was a bit lacking, but their acting totally carried that entire show. I was a bit impressed, I think their performances were outstanding among other couples in their generation. (Idk, maybe because they have more experience before? haven't done much background check on them)
Anw I'm hoping this series could earn them more better quality projects in the future. I've been longing for high quality BL since ITSAY in 2020 🥲, I think entrusting them to do one will be worth it.
This looks kinda promising, the style seems more serious and in touch with reality, and the director's previous works suit this kind of genre.
I really, really hope that the writing is realistic 🤞🤞 because there's no point of making this series in grungy style, if it's not depicting realistic, toxic, gay life.
Hopefully they don't make it too forced that the 3 couples should all end up together just because they're the "ships". Even if they all DO end up together, it's because the story actually realistically makes sense that leads up to them together.
Because some of them, honestly, are trash and don't deserve their partners (judging from the trailer) but we'll have to see 😂
PLEASE let this one have a strong writing, even if the genre is light-fluffy-romcom, we still need a good writing 😭 So many bl filmmakers keep forgetting that, writing is literally the foundation of all form of screenplay
Why do I think big, greedy companies like gmmtv would go like "oh it's offgun anyway, we can sell any shit at this point and people will still watch it" Pls don't be like that istg 😭😭
Honestly, so far, this bl has the best writing from gmmtv since Not Me in 2021
I love how the story unfold, the screenplay is pretty nice and smooth (though I think Ben-Nuengdiao relationship needs more building than that) , the character writing is great, I love the exposition, the building and development of the 2 main characters.
However, I definitely have issues with the execution, mostly in acting and direction. I think the direction is a bit hit-or-miss sometimes (judging from the director's previous works, I can tell from some scenes that he's not in his element). Acting wise, I think needs some work and a more natural approach, their gestures and the way they talk sometimes feel very staged.
On the other side, love the production design and editing though 😍
Did anyone notice how the rain is repeatedly shown and mentioned in this series? It's raining when they met, when they confess to each other, when the accident happen, etc I'm really curious of what symbolism does it represent
I'm a bit disappointed with the execution aspects of this series. The editing are clunky, kinda ruined some moments. The acting, a bit weak and stiff. The direction and screenplay, I feel like they don't play out each scene strongly enough.
That's too bad, but I will stick around since the story seems to be a good classic BL, with a warm coming-of-age vibe, and the couple dynamics are looking really cute and promising.
The visuals are stunning and very eye-catching, but the exposition didn't start strong enough. They spent too much of the screen time on beauty shots instead of visual storytelling to communicate and kick off the plot.
But it did pique my interest and curiosity though, can't wait to see how this unravel.
Okey, I'm honestly confused by the comments. I haven't seen this one yet but I really want to because the comments…
Hi, I will try to help answering based on my own honest view about this.
I personally never value a series or any type of cinematic art based on the likability of a character, or the theme of the story. To me, it's always about HOW the story is told, and never about WHAT the story is about.
It's as if a story can be considered good if it's positive, and telling abt perfect people in their perfect romance, and I don't believe this. Take "Parasite" as an example, how can I like a bunch of scammers that only think about themselves? Because that's not the point. This is a story that tells about someone's life journey, and we're invited to experience it with them, because we can relate as humans, not because we like them.
Teh is not perfect, and neither is Oh Aew, but they felt REAL. The way this series is written made them felt like humans and not just characters. They're like one of those friends you meet at school, which some you like and wannabe friends with, and some you dislike and avoid. And this is a story about them, in their perfectly imperfect life. This is where ITSAY stands out from typical BLs, hence the praises and compliments. I hope this helps 😄

It'd be funny seeing sangmin and dongmin commenting on Jinho's actions and judging him 🤣

It's about time we go back to the CLASSIC. After all those recent BLs with epic and out-of-the-box storylines, I kinda miss these old school concepts.
But it did pique my interest and curiosity though, can't wait to see how this unravel.
