I honestly don't understand people who gets THAT bothered by other people's opinions. Are you like 10? This is…
No one is asking that. Negative reviews are fine. Its when they blatantly say things that arent true thats annoying. No, the straight couple does not have more screen time then Heesu's story. No, this is not queer erasure.
I think most of the people here are not really used to hearing actual criticism instead of mindless bashing, so…
I think there a valid criticisms of the work to be had, but at this point to keep saying this is a straight washed drama when clearly its not, is nit fair to the work. So this discourse is quite frustrating. Straightwashed means that all the queer characters would now be straight but they arent here. They sre still gay. The story is still a slow burn. Heesu is still just as annoying.
I think itll be interesting to see the whole story and how it ties together. I would bet that Heesu's oldest sister that has the relationship that her other two sisters dont approve of is going to be the first to discover Heesu is gay and give him support. Thats why HER story was importnat to show.
I've read the book amd I actually think this is a better adaption. But also, I find it ironic that people say that the straight couple feels like the main while in the same breath saying they feel shallow and boring. Its because they arent the main, there isnt a lot of build up, their relationship is simple, and they are a PLOT DEVICE for the main relationship.
Its also ironic to me that people complain that its a slow burn but the source material was also a slow burn! And to me this isnt even slow.
I was too once a young queer teen myself and to me this story is great story telling for a young closeted teen. I rewarched a lot of this last night and realized that even though SW followed Heesu to stop Heesu's confession, he gets back to his own room and says a "yeah right". So he himself is also still not sure if Heesu is even gay but hes trying his best to feel it out.
I feel bad for thr actors of the show who clearly wanted to show the internal conflicts of young gay teens in South Korea. I wouldnt call this a BL, and that's okay. Its a queer story. Theres internal conflict and learning to love ones self. It isnt completely set in a BL fantasy world. It crosses that line a bit into the real world and I appreciate it.
If youre on the fence about this drama, its not straightwashed but it is more BL adjacent than BL. It falls more into the queer youth drama category instead.
After the preview yesterday, Im really really excited for episode 7.
In episode one the writers set up what kind of story this would be through Hee Su's second oldest sister. She says "the start of a relationship isnt a confession, its the build up. You have to properly build-up, then confess. You cant keep confessing like getting stamps for coffee."
I personally think the writers have done an excellent job at this.
I imagine many of us who like it have been run off by a lot of the negativity here. I'm enjoying it as well. I'm…
Im in the same boat. Im also really enjoying it. And I dont get how people keep saying theres no progress when in each episode there consistently has been.
Its not self hating but it is there. Because he froze with SW because SW was implying that it was ridiculous for the girl to even thing HS and CY could be a thing. HS took it personally. Like he knows hes gay but he also is under this belief that there couldnt possibly be anyone like him around. That hes abnormal and makes others uncomfortable. So yeah, he is blind a little to a guy thats clearly asking him out because he already has it in his mind that its not right.
What part was the bare minimum for you? Its not just a romance. Its about a gay teenager becoming comfortable…
I think youre being kind of absurd tbh. Because this whole episode was about Heesu becoming closer to Seungwon and becoming more confident in himself. I dont see how you dont see the character development.
No. And I still dont understand how people can claim the show is queerbating. Its like people forgot the meaning…
Oh. I was just referring to gener discourse and not just OPs comment. I also wouldnt call this straight washed or bromanced washed or anything lole that either. These terms are being thrown around and just do not apply at all.
this episode was better than the last two, but still waiting for the gay romance to start and not just get the…
What part was the bare minimum for you? Its not just a romance. Its about a gay teenager becoming comfortable in himself and realizing that different types of love exist. That he doesnt have to hold his breath anymore and now feels lile he has at least found someone who would understand him and not think hes wrong. The story is about acceptance and self discovery.
You could also say the same thing about the weeks of just straight up over the top bashing imho.
