Imo, it is much more like Mystic Pop Up Bar with FL having to fulfill a certain number of wishes so the clients…
Aww no problem, ymmv bc these dramas have many tropes i enjoy but are also well written with a good character and relationship progression. Plus both have an happy ending which is not a given in the year of grimdark 2022 dramas, lol. (From Now On Showtime has even one of the most fluffiest/warmest endings i have seen in kdramaland btw) So chances are high, if you are enjoying May I Help You thus far, that you will enjoy these two kdramas as well. No guarantee of course because everyone's taste is different of course, but giving both a chance for longer is a sound idea as they both start a bit slow.
Imo, it is much more like Mystic Pop Up Bar with FL having to fulfill a certain number of wishes so the clients…
Oh hi always nice seeing you somewhere hehe. And lol. i spoke too soon because episode 4 (which i just completed) had really big tomorrow vibes too, but overall MPUB is the most fitting comparison here tbh. Good good taste btw, because i loved the drama so much as well and i hope we get to see more of this writer soon. After all, FNOS is one of the few dramas this year that did not leave me dead and cold inside when it ended bc for some reason the drama writers have collective angst/tragedy complex this year they project onto their stories and viewers lol.
May I Help You uses the same storytelling technique like MPUB as well where the layers of events and char background are slowly peeled back (the onion plot as i like to think of it bc it also makes you cry, haha) and it all makes sense in time. Which it does equally well, so i think you will enjoy this one hehe.
Imo, it is much more like Mystic Pop Up Bar with FL having to fulfill a certain number of wishes so the clients…
Yeeeees. It took me also a week or so to get through the first episode and it is slow at first, but the story and the characters, damn. Heartwarming, charming and wacky/quirky at times it is about second chances/forgiveness and the stories of ordinary people that she helps to get her own absolution. FL is front and center to the story and may appear abrasive and cold at first but there is much more to her than meets the eye.
I loved how slowly more and more is peeled back about the characters and motivations and what happened with each episode. The more you watch the more it all makes sense what it is at first only thrown at you without context, particularly the historical part at the beginning/first episode. Which is a storytelling technique that also May I Help You applies well, btw. It is way more anchored in the supernatural genre than this drama tho, so expect to see a lot of the author's vision of the "otherworld" (think of it as a wacky version of the grim reapers' place in Tomorrow (forgot the name) Definitely a drama that needs its time to "get going" but one with a lot of heart.
Highly recommend to give From Now On Showtime also a try if you have not yet, because it also combines humor with romance and its supernatural plot so so well. Some very heartrendering scenes/subplots as well. The full genre mix drama package, imo. Same writer like Mystic Pop Up Bar as well but compared to it very much an overlooked drama that sadly slipped through the cracks when it aired this year.
Perhaps the question is - did they ever have any sort of ceremony? If I understand Korean law correctly, a "marriage"…
yeah, legally that is all what is required, afaik bc you can have the pompous ceremony but it is not legally binding. And as said i think it is about a) finally getting a good wedding party five years in they (probably) never had knowing how practical Jiho is and him having no family to invite anyway "to prove it to" (as other men have done it) and b) to show their love to all the people, to make it real. I really love that the drama is ending on that sentiment. It is like coming full circle for the characters/leads and a satisfying one for the viewers <3
They themselves don't know they are married. It is just pure business deal. Also they need to show some proofs…
I think it is about a ceremony to carry it beyond the business deal they had, to make their love/marriage real and "prove" it to everyone more than anything, so to speak. Kinda like spouses who are marrying each other a second time after years/decades, that sort of thing. Because legally these two dorks are married since five years already, registered and sealed and all. (Which the drama seems to forget at times with all the talk of her marrying SML before lol)
Do yourself a favour and AVOID this drama like the plague - it’s SO bad!
Well that is just your opinion and you do you, man. But imo it really is not and your statement too broad in general. While most of the plot elements (especially the chaebol main plot made my eyes glaze over) simply don't gel together and feel jarring in parts, the writers have done such a good job with the leads and their relationship. They are one of the most wholesome and healthy kdrama couples of this year, with one of the greenest ML flag ever hissed over kdramaland, at that.
So I haven't started this yet but I feel that it has vibes like Tomorrow (which I absolutely loved). So well is…
Imo, it is much more like Mystic Pop Up Bar with FL having to fulfill a certain number of wishes so the clients can move on and she be freed from this task... except here the clients are already dead xD Also it has a similar good balance between somber and funny moments with a lot of heart and care for its characters in its writing. I could say it also reminds me of FNOS somewhat but for this it is not "ghostly" (and wacky) enough, as the supernatural elements are rather minor and only serve as a vehicle to tell the stories of said ordinary people who have died. Imo, it is not as sad as tomorrow and has an overall more optimistic, comedic tone... though this does not mean that some scenes won't emotionally wreck you ofc hahaha
I love how the leads are both ordinary people just trying to get by, so no CEO or rich kid nonsense here. It is, outside of the few supernatural scenes, really down to earth, if with a "leads meeting by chance/fate" trope turned up to eleven. But imo that is done with a lot of charm and self-awareness.
Catching up and it cracks me up how the writers have dialed the "leads meeting by chance" trope up to eleven, like what are the odds of her moving into their house 🤣 I reeeeeally love the chemistry between them and ML already slowly falling deeper and deeper without realizing it yet. Another trope i love, and in general the drama is very enjoyable with its good balance between comedy, (budding) romance and somber moments. A lot of heart went into the writing and the actors sell it well. Hyeri is hilarious and i love her.
He basically forced a kiss on her while she could not consent bc of her drunkenness and while she just existed/enjoying the moment (watching the stars) Very uncomfortable even more o that the writers made FL apologize for it to SML. That part was infuriating. Also how SML boasted to ML that it is over now for him since they confirmed their feelings for each other. Yikes.
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes, but be patient with the drama as its story unfolds only slowly and it is…
haha, np i can relate. I wish i hadn't seen the drama yet as it would mean more gkp for me too but oh well. Oh i love LIC for him alone and Jiho is one of my most fave ML's by now, especially as introvert myself.
Anyway, you need a lot of patience for this drama as the pace is sloooow but imo it is very much worth it, especially in the end.
hi here’s my evaluation7/10 for story (ep 6 is a classic, but some weak episodes in between - side characters…
Personally, i love the show for the leads and their relationship (progression) It is healthy and wholesome which is a lot due to Jiho being one of the greenest ML flags to be ever hissed in kdramaland, imo. Not your typical romcom lead either. He is quiet, thoughtful, sincere/supportive (in an action instead of words kind of way) but socially awkward ... and all too blunt xD Hence he is easily misunderstood and struggles with social interactions, lacks patience/interest for it. Which he however works on with a therapist. His ability to recognize and willingness to work on his issues instead to rely on "partner/love to fix it all" is just one fact of many that shows his overall maturity, btw. (Particularly in contrast to childish, egocentric SML)
Jiho is an oddball in a way for sure, however a very lovable, multifaceted one with enough face journeys to send you around the world. Particularly whenever FL does something or he is pushed outside his comfort zone (which correlates with whatever FL does, and all the icky socializing not to forget🤣) It is hilarious and endearing, and GKP gives his character a lot of complexity and subtlety through his acting without needing (m)any words. Honestly tho, this man is soooo expressive, wow.
Don't be surprised that there is a red herring in the beginning where the writers hike up his perceived weirdness to eleven to put you as a viewer on a wrong path regarding him/his background, tho. In truth he is just an introverted dork that overthinks too much and prefers to stay/go home and have dinner with FL instead to socialize with his noisy coworkers ;) As an introvert myself it is so refreshing and lovely to see this all too rare character archetype in a drama, especially as ML who is (socially) awkward and dorky instead of the usual smooth confidence. I can relate to him a lot, ngl (bc socializing *is* exhausting hahaha)
The dynamic between chaotic, jack of all trades master of none, whirlwindy FL and quiet, calm steadfast ML is one of my faves of this year, bc they complement each other so well, and Jiho is such a husband material with how observant and respectful of (FL's boundaries, decisions/wishes/needs etc) and toward her in general he is. Especially in contrast to invasive SML, tbh. Doesn't mean he won't miss some very obvious social cues or struggle with understanding her actiions at times, but he always tries his best to work it out. Romance is very slow burn but wholesome and well done in its progression (aka suits the characters and feels organic)
Tldr: My simp lvl for Jung Jiho/GKP is over 9000 🤣and he is like 70% of the reason i enjoy this otherwise quite messy drama so much. The other 30% are whenever the leads are together onscreen, which always means GOOD TIMES that clears my skin and waters my crops, and Sangeun's bestie Gwangnam who is the best character along with Jiho. For the rest you need a twitchy ffw-finger, tho 😏
Reading the comments and feeling glad that I didn't read'em while I was watching. I'm currently only waiting for…
Yeeeees, while the other plot elements are all over the place, the writers have done so well with the leads' romance (development) and they both are the whole reason i am (still) watching/loving this drama tbh.
I love how they found comfort in each other right from the start, challenge, heal and grow together. It is a wholesome dynamic of support. respect ( for each other's decisions/boundaries, views as well as generally for the person) and healthy communication of their feelings and needs that is not always perfect but both of them put in the effort and work to come to an understanding in the end.
They complement each other so well, character and temperament-wise. Sangeun is the whirlwindy extrovert that gets Jiho out of his shell while Jiho is the calm, steadfast haven of support and love anchoring her that her chaotic life had prior lacked. Together, they can be themselves, without judgement but with a whole lot of acceptance for the other, flaws and all. And in the end, that is how a (healthy) relationship should be.
What a fun ride from start to finish. Silly/clever humor and parody paired with good character writing/progression and wholesome romance is my favorite mix in a drama. Hence why Gaus Electronics is up there in the Top 3 of my favorites for this year, along with From Now On Showtime and Crazy Love (which are also quite overlooked and underrated dramas in the year of 2521 and co. Highly recommend them if you need a comedy/romance fix after GE)
Really liking how it is progressing with SangHo and eternally bored by the rest of the plot and haejin ngl. Don't care for him, never will. However, seeing GKP had pictures taken on his last day of shooting in front of a wedding party set with "just married" as decoration, i suppose it is safe to assume we get some sort of ceremony at the end for both leads. I guess as a symbolic gesture to make their marriage and love official more than anything, bc they *are* already legally married, after all hehe.
