On The Truth Beneath Jul 11, 2017
If you have Amazon Prime, it's on there. This was on Modern Korean Cinema's Best Of List for 2016 and won a ton of awards. Written and Directed by Lee Kyoung-mi (Crush and Blush, a Blue Dragon Award winner) and Co-written by Park Chan Wook this was a DARK and fascinating movie about the disintegration of an up and coming political family when an ugly tragedy strikes in the middle of the husband's campaign. The movie is doubly engrossing since it fluctuates between past and present requiring careful attention to the action on screen, but it does a good job of keeping things pretty clear while doing so. A brilliant performance by Son Ye Jin, may be the best of her career. Tense and, at the end, both frightening and exciting, the final 10-15 minutes is a tour de force of stunning revelation and bloody vengeance that takes place at rocket speed! I highly recommend it to those who like this genre. 9 or 9.5/10 for me

Probably best known (and watched because of) as director Bong Joon-Ho's first movie and his second as a screenwriter, for me, that's about the only reason to watch it. It was fun to see Bae Doona and Lee Sung Jae 17 years younger and that was the best part of the whole thing for me. This is one of those films that I guess you could call an Indie, but it's hard to pin down its genre. It's definitely dark comedy and, despite the statement that "No Animals Were Harmed In The Making Of This Film", if you are an animal lover, this will be VERY difficult to watch and VERY VERY difficult to find humor in the cruelty shown. It's certainly why I felt turned off almost immediately by it. It's about as impossible for me to see murdering animals as humorous in any vein...even for the sake of dark humor or as an allegory for societal wrongs. What's next? Murdering children? I realize that writers and directors like to do things like this to shock and awe people and as a method to get their points across about things that need to change in this world. But the methodology used in the this film was just a complete turn off for me. It's really a shame because the production, acting, and everything else was really well done. I just didn't like it! :(

Loved it. Loved the effort that went into making this. The ending is typical for OCN productions...always open...like life, the story doesn't end when the credits roll. I doubt seriously there will be any sequel. If there is, I don't expect this cast. There were a few missteps in the story, but just about anything can be forgiven in my appreciation for the overall product. Thank the Powers That Be for Korean Cable. They continue to give us the best in unique, non cliched dramas.

Great selection...all so true! I also think of Kim Jae Wook. I'm hoping Voice has provided him the boost he needs to get more and better dramas. No Min Woo has had some good projects also and is very unique. But, I always wonder ....do they pick some of these awful projects they do or are they only getting bad offers? Another actor, who is older and has been around for some time but seems to always be a supporting one is Bae Soo Bin. I think he is amazing! But, he has virtually disappeared into theater. There are so many of these disappearing actors! If I had a better brain, I'd probably add a dozen or more!

Loved it. Just loved it. A very sweet and lovely short story. Only 2 hours, so if you aren't a fan of things like the drama specials because you don't feel like they give you enough filler, you might not like this. But I really love short story as in reading or in drama format. This was a wonderful break from the torture of hours and hours of long dramas.

Wow. Couldn't be much worse. The back and forth time jumps were so unnecessary. Maybe some continuity of story and feelings might have made this better. It looked like either a high school or college kid written and acted drama. Painfully bad for me.
