-sweet movie, well done, nice romance and the time travel was done well ...not breaking the 'rules' of time travel like so many dramas now do.

Good movie with 2 of my most favorite actors. But I had a solid disconnect from it. Maybe it was just my mood. This should have been my kind of movie, but I struggled with it. On one hand it's a great production and terrific acting and a really good story. But I was just glad when it was over and I could cross it off my list. It's a 7.5 for me overall.

Cute little web drama. At the end of each 5-7 minute episode the stars cheer for KBS 'something'? and the screen shows KBS school/art academy. So I wonder if this was a school project? Whatever. It's best to know going in that it's choppy, the story will not be fleshed out. It's like writing an outline of what each episode of a full size drama is going to be about, then only filming what it says in the outline. So you just get an idea of the people and the relationship with nothing filled in. They did a great job of that. Your imagination, if you have one, has no trouble filling in the blanks for the story and it certainly makes you wish they could have done more of it! A solid 7 for me...maybe 7.5 because I love the 2 leads and they were so cute in this. Nice to see K Will too!
On Life Risking Romance Apr 14, 2017
squeezed out the 7...just cute, not a good script. Seemed like a first time, very young writer kind of writing. A bit juvenile in other words. But not a total waste of time because I love Ha Ji Won when she is doing comedy and she was so darn cute in this.

Highly entertaining and terrific acting. I wasn't looking forward to watching it because I was afraid it would just be another melo, overwrought, speechifying type movie. Or that it would be just violent and depressing. Instead, it is quite an uplifting movie, without being schmaltzy, and well worth the 2 hours. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing. I felt like I had to watch it with this cast and they definitely did not disappoint. The beautiful cinematography was evenly paired with the wonderful casting and all of it draws you into this world and time so you feel like you are there in the story with them. I love when movies do this. It's just like reading a good book. 9/10 for the above and (look up the articles on this attorney's cases) for introducing the world to this superman of a lawyer who, despite his own avowals of being an unholy man, professes that: "I want to know that compassion and justice are alive. I think the people want to know that, too,”

I am wondering if Yeon-Sook and their child (PGH #2?) somehow time traveled but ended up in the future sometime after our PGH#1's arrival, and eventually he will reach that time in his timeline and find her and their son and they will stay in this timeline? And, if she time traveled alone, without her child, then her child might have been put up for adoption but the Dr is the wrong age for someone who was born in 1987 at the latest. And PGH#2's year of birth is also off by a year.
The fact they keep bringing up 1988 as the year of birth for PGH#2 is odd though. Why do they keep bringing up his YOB?

If Yeon-Sook disappeared due to time travel with her infant son PGH#2, they have been existing in a future timeline that PGH#1 has not reached yet. They said she and the child both disappeared I think? So she probably knows that her past son who exists in the current timeline was killed. This means PGH#1's reason for being here is to solve the killing of his son (probably the serial killer who's been time traveling in the tunnel for a while) so he can go back and catch the killer in the past to save his son in the future! Oh my head!

I'm curious about Sung-Sik (his old partner)'s behavior regarding his search for PGH's wife. He is hiding something, but I don't necessarily think it's obvious what he is hiding. I think he is mostly concerned about the fact there are no records which indicates a 'hand' involved that may be powerful and dangerous and he fears for his sunbae's reaction when he finds this out. Since PGH#1 is fairly volatile, I think he worries PGH#1 will get himself killed going after whomever.
I also am curious about the ME Dr Mok. He seems to have a long standing relationship with Sun-Jae, but I too feel the off vibes from him that other viewers have mentioned.

Frankly I don't want to guess who the killer is, nor worry about the hows and whys of the time travel too much. It's way way too much fun to just enjoy this ride. This drama is SOOO much better than I thought it would be. I also like the attention to detail. There is a marked difference in the police officers of yesterday vs today. Back in PGH#1's day a lot of cops were one step removed from the criminals...nor not even removed at all. Many of them were hardened survivors of at least 2 wars and went into police work where brutality and forced confessions were par for the course. Nowadays, most police forces require at least a college education, Police Academy, extensive psychological tests for even entry level officers. And it is an absolute for promotion. PGH#1's volatility and brashness is in marked contrast to his fellow officers. Yet he also has years of experience that cannot be discounted. It's a great partnership and very interesting concept the writers are using in this scenario.

If there is anything 'off' in this drama, it's PGH#1's too quick acceptance of his time travel. I cannot imagine this happening to anyone without some serious fears and instability. It's not a deal breaker by any means...just something that bothers me a BIT.

This is so much better than I thought it would be. Really good writing and production. He seemed to adjust too quickly to the 30 year jump, but that's not a game changer. The story is strong enough I can ignore that.

Title Cheongdam-dong Alice Spoiler
I recently rewatched this drama and it wasn't all that bad! Better than I remember actually. The writing is actually very good, very different and an unusual and complex idea. But I think it's probably not everyone's cup of tea. I just happened to find it a very well done study of a concept and presented in a very innovative way.

It is unfortunately true that there is almost no chemistry between the leads and 98% of that is MGY's fault. She is not all that good of an actress either, imo. Her entire demeanor in the 3 dramas I have seen her in is the same. Very flat and unemotional. Still, she did have her moments in this. It just was a miscasting of her in this part. As far as the story, maybe going into it knowing that she is a person who has reached her limit, feels bitter and angry and has lost her direction, and then eventually returns to her original self, realizing money is not the answer (even though it's still a Cinderella story), and that finding someone you love is more important than finding someone rich...all that will help a bit getting through it. Maybe.

I enjoyed it more the second time around since I knew what was coming and could relax and enjoy the rest of the cast more. And I really liked the rest of the cast and the secondary stories. Especially So Yu Hyun's character. She did a great job in this.

And, of course, PSH was terrific. It is very sad that his life imploded and we lost such a talented actor. He has so very few dramas to watch and most of them are small parts only. Still, this is worth watching for his performance which was adorable and strong. His ability to go from light to dark was very well done and it's great to watch a good actor get a part he can really sink his teeth into like this character.

Gorgeous movie to look at and that part is definitely a 9 or 10. Good story, but nothing new. Love triangle, ott revenge, live to regret. Been done a million times. Yet it was still engrossing and even painful to watch. Still. There was something missing in this for me. I felt too removed from the story. Most especially in the building...or lack of building...of the relationships between Yoon Woo and either of the 2 women well enough for me to see any great love between him and either of them. It was all rather tepid and his switch from loving the Love of his Life to Yeon Hee woefully undeveloped. He's been working with Yeon Hee for weeks or months on the album and then, suddenly, while he is watching her sing he 'realizes' he loves her? And Yeon Hee...totally did not understand how she continued to think it was okay to go to So Yeol for help while she was betraying her with the man she knew So Yeol loved. The actual love triangle just wasn't fully fleshed out. At least for me.

Even so, my heart was tight from the middle to the end, knowing that the betrayal was coming. Surprisingly, since Korean film is so obsessed with lessons that the characters are supposed to learn, it appears the only one who did learn anything was So Yool. And she lived in pain and regret and loneliness the rest of her life as a result. Justifiably so since her revenge caused the deaths of 2 people. Yoon Woo and Yeon Hee seemed to have little guilt nor regret for betraying her and seemed to think she should 'just get over it' since they loved each other. So Yeol's quiet descent into madness and vengeance was sad to watch. Is there any pain more intense (other than the death of loved ones) than the betrayal of a friend or a lover? It is a living loss that is surely as painful as death, yet you have to live with the constant knowledge that their lives go on happily, while yours stops as surely as if they killed you.

Nice film, if a bit slow. Brilliant productions values...sets, costumes, music...it completely transports you into a different world and time. Acting was very good.

2.5 hours and it's the .5 that is worth waiting for. If you are into financial crime or maybe your job is in the financial world, the first 2 hours of this film will be more interesting to you perhaps than it is to those of us who aren't checking the stock prices or the interest rates or all that everyday. It wasn't horrible, but it was definitely slow. I'm used to Asian, Korean film especially, taking it's time to get 'there', but this was almost painful.

It's a beautiful film cinematically for sure. The last 20 minutes were for adrenaline junkies like me. Keep watching into the credits for a bit too.

Roger Ebert pretty much summed it up for me: "Woo-bin Kim walks away with so much of the movie. While the good cop and the bad businessman are archetypes in which “Master” cannot find something new to say, Kim’s “man in the middle” is pretty fascinating, and this young actor grounds the entire film. He’s easily the most interesting character, the one with shifting morals and an uncertain future.
And despite my issues with the bloated midsection of “Master,” the final twenty minutes almost justify the lengthy journey. Cho finally delivers in these scenes, twisting and turning his plot, while also giving us the car chases and gunfire we’ve been waiting for. The only question is if you’ll still be awake by the time he gets there. "

It's fun to see someone like this review a Korean film and have them see KWB's potential like this. I hope he saw the review too! I think he has the potential to be LBH in a few years.

Interesting story. The subs, finally a good version! Thank you to Mr FarbodD (wherever you are) for the subbing work which makes this available to an international audience. And GoodDrama for finding it and posting it.

The movie itself is just good enough for some escapism viewing when nothing else may be calling you. The characters are okay, but I don't get any feelings of attachment or worry for them. At all times I'm aware this is just a movie and never get fully immersed. A lot of that has to do with knowing from the beginning that 'she' is already out of the mental institution so this is just an investigation of what happened. There's lots of spoilers out there about the ending and I saw them so I had no surprises at the end, but even so I don't regret the 90 minutes. Both the leads are well known to me and I like them both very much.

And while the ending is nice enough with it's little twist on no one being who you think they are, it's actually the final few seconds that left me questioning ....Who is the second cup for and who is knocking on her door at the end? And why did she say I'll see you soon father?

my friend swears this is one of the best dramas ever. For me...not even. So Far anyway. I'm only on ep 4, but trying to continue and click on another episode is torture. The characters are tissue thin. Tremendously cliche from the loser father, to the hardworking mom, the bratty sister, and the kid who can do no wrong, is perfect in every way, and smarter than everyone...not to forget the star..the Truck of Doom. The story so far is cookie cutter, not a thing about it new or refreshing. I'm going to struggle on in the hopes that the adult cast will change the tempo and the makjang silliness with tone down.

Nothing new in this. I was expecting more given the enormous amount of attention, hype, and huge delays building…
you took the words right out of my thoughts. My friends are all sageuk crazy. The second I hear a new drama is coming out with stars I really like and they say its going to be sageuk, my heart just sinks. The only one that broke the mold for me was Six Flying Dragons. And I am enjoying Rebel very much too. But oh how I detest the check list of sageuk tropes every single one of them just has to have. My MOST HATED one, sageuk or not, is the psychotic ex or wanna be girlfriend, followed by the psychotic evil chaebol who defeats our hero/heroine for every episode until about 15-20 minutes before the end of the last episode.....followed by 10-15 minutes of redemption garbage where he/she confesses his wrongs (on his knees) and all is forgiven. rme

I am so with you as to what I, also, thought or hoped this story was going to be. and btw...where are her other 2 kids? And yes, so with you here, where is the painting...where is it? Google images has lots of her stuff and they are SO beautiful. It's like having a story about a poet and not hearing any poems! (and she was a poet also) I fast forwarded through this week's episode, watching a minute here and a minute there (completely skipping the supposed 'comic relief' of her loser husband...so NOT funny). I think I will just do even episodes to the end of this now. Nothing is happening in the story, all I see is the same thing repeating itself over and over and I'm already bored to death. Dramas like this I usually move over from Dramafever or Viki to Dramanice and watch on 2x...get the gist of it. But they have some strange pop ups happening ever since they got caught a month or so ago and had to move their server and that makes me nervous.

One of her poems...so full of heartache...makes me miss my mom over again:

Looking Back at my Parents' Home while Going Over Daegwallyŏng Pass

I leave my elderly mother behind in Kangnung
Wracked with emotions, I am alone on the road to Seoul
I look back at my home, and for a moment take hope.
The white clouds flying below shroud the mountain green.

Pretty awful...for me! Low budget, cliche ridden, extremely dated... a story that goes down the kdrama cliche list and checks off every single one of them. All the things I have grown to dislike and avoid in the kdramas I watch today. And that god awful sound track so many of the dramas used in those years...some guy or girl in the background going OOOOOOOOOO incessantly and always in a sour off key!

On the plus side, okay acting, and the unmitigated joy of getting to see these young versions of some of my favorite actors. Eugene is lovely. She isn't a great actress, but I like her so I haven't got huge expectations and just enjoy seeing her. And our most beautiful and precious angel Park Yong Ha. Any time I watch a show and he is in it, I will suddenly find tears pouring from my eyes as I watch him. It's just heartbreaking. But I will watch anything he is in, so it was great to find this OLD one on YouTube. And OMG Lee Dong Wook!!! I laughed out loud when I saw him! I am so used to his current looks it was such a shock. What a baby face! Lee Yoo Ri (despite being stuck in the Psycho Girlfriend role...my most hated kdrama trope) was absolutely beautiful, stunning, gorgeous. Wow. And the "blink and you will miss him" role of Kim Ji Hoon as Sung Wook, the camera guy. Kim Se A (who has disappeared since her scandal last year) as the director, and a bunch of younger versions of older stars too!

Absolutely worth watching for all this alone. I eventually put it on 2X speed tho. It got pretty boring. Been there done that...the story has been done a million time. Perfect length at 12 episodes. For those who love this older genre and the traditional melo romance, you will really enjoy it I think, way more than me. The ending, as with many of these older dramas, is a bit more realistic than nowadays where everything is forgiven and forgotten in the end and our OTP rides off in the sunset together. In this case, it's still early morning.
