I don't think he should rebel or kill his father. I just think he needs to ensure he isn't someone easily bullied by everyone. He can do that without becoming a villain.
As much as I feel bad for NH I think he needs to pattern up and do more to protect himself as it's been made pretty clear no one else (including the fl though she has some valid reasons) will step up and do so. Like it gets to a point. He's too busy chasing love and getting weaker by the day when he should be silently gathering strength and forming alliances or whatever someone who wants the throne should do.
