Well, I haven't watched the drama yet but as far as I remember from the novel, the problem may be that it is purely…
Hi Lessa :) You also have to read the full novel in order to determine if it is 'purely a slice of life'. There were a lot of sub-conflicts within the drama not only Father vs purported daughter; concubine vs purported daughter; conflict of love of 'brother/'sister'; but also between ML and SML and power plays between royals and government officials. There is also the 'what if' prologue after the novel - like what if FL is not reborn.
Like I said, this is not a simple and straight storyline so, in order to understand and appreciate it, one has to read the full novel and/or watch the full drama.
3 days ago I saw the rating here as 8.1 now when I checked it is now 7.9 :( what happened lah? don't be too harsh in rating this drama yet, not until you saw the full series. this is a complicated story as far as novel goes but the scriptwriters are already making it simpler for us to follow Ren Min voice is better than the baby voices I hear on other dramas and here she is portraying a 14-15 year old girl
loved the integration of Thai-Chinese actor to this drama... but well, Chen Lang was described in novel as a beautiful man, the one who played is not - he is more manly π
I'm so curious about her birth. Did her mother get married while being pregnant? Did her mother bring a baby with…
Novel says, her Mom was neglected as a wife so she went to a temple, saved a wounded soldier who took advantage.... Father did not know she is not his daughter; it is more because he is inclined to his concubine and kids Lu JiaXue was her husband from her first life - novel says she was reborn after falling off a cliff (first life) and falling on a pond (second life)
first scene and I am already angry grrrπ€how dare you lord of the north to deny ladies entering your house and…
and then the next the lady saying she is the woman of the bandit in front of the bandit himself π€£π€£π€£ this drama's killing me with craziness π€£
Overall for me is a good production, the acting is great and visual is also good but how the story unfolds is scattered in sub-stories hence the coherence and consistency of this drama is low.
I finished it all! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ A very awesome story of steadfast and resilience in the face of adversity I bawled πππat ep 24 grampa reunion Cried tears of sadness and joy at the last ep π₯Ήπ₯Ήππ Loved all of the elders and the kids β€οΈ; kudos to the one who played Prince Six - he played it so good Best of all I loved Grampa very much - he reminded me of my Father whom Iost years ago; they are same in character (principled, never waiving, honest) and facial features β€οΈ
And last but the the least, this is the first time I come to love all of the background music (OSTs) in a drama - all the bg are played on the right timing and enhanced what the actors are emoting on β€οΈ As a final thought, I will rate this drama 10 because everybody in the cast played their part - this time I will forgive the shortcoming of the leads because it was compensated by the other casts and characters.
Expression less ! I don't know where she is expressionless, I watched this drama. But I didn't find her expression…
My Congratulations to her and my best wishes as well β€οΈ I hope that given the opportunity and moving forward, I hope she will learn to: - know when to part her lips and when to keep it closed? - maybe slightly twitch her nose π? - emote with her eyes (shocked, sad, happy π, roll it on appropriate occasions)? or maybe move her cheeks a bit as part of emote I understand Chinese ladies during those times are not allowed to emote loud but her role here is of a "liberated woman" so, how do one show how she is freed from society's expectations?

Novel is one story while drama is another.
