I read the novel in its entirety a year ago and I am glad that the storyline was different from the drama script (though the name of the characters were the same) or I would not have continued watching this. Going to EP 3 now.... I loved how the FL (Zhou Ye) act in this drama. I noticed her first in the Scent of Time and she slayed the character. Here, she is the character.
I observed though that ML is a bit stiff when "playing" his character with the main or lead... Maybe I will see their "connection" on the succeeding"?
I was reminded more of the motherโs character in Pride and Prejudice, with the loud acting and visible greed.…
as far as I see the general storyline is a sisters story not just one love story with only their Mom as a parent and how they survived in a patriarchal society.. that's what the Little Women has also portrayed.....
one story - that of the ML and FL may be similar to the Pride and Prejudice but that is only one story (sub-story)

Eul Pa So was the mastermind because he wants the violent prince to rule so it can set chaos to the kingdom - it is a matter of revenge as he was the surviving son of the previous king (before the Woo Hui father-in-law became king)
since Woo Hui did not fall to eul pa so's plan of marrying the violent prince, Pa So is now also forced to support Woo Hui due to his promise to the dead King.
when the prince brothers attacked the palace that was the last scene in ep 8 and the prologue scenes or the ep 1 is showing that Woo Hui fighting with the same tactic as her husband - king lead the front and generals surround the enemy and king won the battle so there is an assumption the the queen also won the battle
the reason why I rated this drama a top is because I was awed by the military tactic used vis-a-vis the chess game. The main tactic used by the King to win the decisive battle against the Chinese Hans - sacrifice the lead and break in the middle then surround the enemy. Queen Woo's mentor is her lover and husband, the King and they are both ruthless and decisive in terms of leadership character though not savage like the brothers of the King.
the king's wounds are so serious and painful that he has to employ s*x to ease his pain while they are treating him - this was actually a first view for me ๐ ๐ ๐ although I have read this in some smut historical novels
I loved how the queen and king looked at each other during this s*xy scene because it showing their longing and love for each other - hat's off to the who played king and queen

@nini this story plot is complicated - the start of the series is the end of the story. you have to watch the drama again and again to get the full story
Right after I finished the entire 8 episodes I started watching it again from ep 1 to get the "full story" This drama is one hell of a ride and I give it a thumbs up! ๐ ๐ ๐ This, for me, should be rated as high as the Kingdom series for its fast-paced action. โค๏ธ โค๏ธ
no problem with the nude scenes as I skipped them ๐๐๐
Read the novel until the end and watched this drama until ep 24... I can only go as far as this ep for the TV series because almost everything was changed - from the character to the storyline. This time for me, the novel won. Rating the drama itself is a bit difficult but because of the ML and the FL, the costumes and the visual effects, I say good enough. ๐
