I am also a mom and I do not favor old men marrying so young girls BUT we are watching a historical fanfic dear which may contain some truthood to Chinese history who has been ruthless to women .. maybe read Chinese history to understand in an objective POV.... example: Xun Guan (c. 315 CE): Led soldiers into battle at age 13 to save her father.
On question whether Huangyang Tian Tian is worthy to play the FL role? You have to consider the novel storyline: Chu Qiao, in her twenties was reborn to a barely 7-year old girl... PA was her earlier years Watch only ep1 of PA and you will see that even the first actress who played Chu Qiao/Jing Yuer is so young which was taken over by much older Zhao Liying during her growing up years -- I assume that the Director then has not seen any other younger actress who can play the depth of 20 year old Chu Qiao- 8 year old Jing Yuer/Xin'er, a 2-faced fox/cat girl
It is still to early to tell whether HTT can carry this depth. Zhao Liying was put on layers of make-up to make her look younger though she played the part well.
Comparing this to Princess Agents? The main question: will they veer away from the novel storyline by 50%? PA did not follow the novel storyline at around 70% my recommendation: do not make PA as the comparison point. The novel is still the best since rumors say, this novel actually started a commotion in the Chinese literary world setting of series of rebirth novels on girl agents dying and being reborn in ancient times
I had already read the novel a long time ago, I'm glad this drama got a sequel.Even knowing that this might disappoint…

Depending on what you like, some of us consider a significant number of recent C-dramas (anything after 2010)…

I didnβt watch PA. Iβm half way through ep 1 and there were a lot of βwhat the fuck is happening?!β I…
in the novel, Chu Qiao, in her twenties, was reborn as an 8-year old girl so why shouldn't a young girl play the role in ancient China, 10-15 year old girls were already mature
Now General Huan is a proper general. Iβm only up to ep 3 and Iβm not sure how I feel about the FL character…
appreciate the drama as it comes, do not put any expectations on it for you will be disappointed better not watch if you already have pre-conceived judgement and/or expectations
I didn't watch PA but did read the summary. Can someone explain what Zhuge Yu did for Chu Qiao go back to his…
in the PA: Zhugue Yue went to Prince Yan invitation due to Chu Qiao thereby sacrificing himself in the process and perishing on the lake.
in the novel: Zhugue Yue through his actions of "guy sincerely in love" he made a series of moves countering his noble family's plan which Chu Qiao much appreciated when finding the truths - he saved Chu Qiao's life for how many times Chu Qiao is not about revenge but about political and imperial justice and he thought siding with Yan Xun will correct what needs be corrected. Remember, in her previous life she died sacrificing herself for China in an international mission
----------- I watched Princess Agents twice and read the novel twice. This second part is already good enough as drama. Will reserve my overall impression after viewing all the eps.... Regarding the FL, my only recommendation is: "Give Ms Chu a chance to prove herself." just like on the novel.
I have a strong feeling that for this drama, there won't be much sensual nor kissing scenes here.... (be at ease fans who do not like older ML-girl FL) 1. novel did not emphasize on romance (like in the Pursuit of Jade); it was only on the latter part that FL realized what a true love is (after FL encountering series of wars for peace and getting tired of it all) 2. Princess Agents, did not emphasize on romance since story was more on the development of FL from a slave to a warrior of justice (only a bit of romantic moments with a touch or art like the martial arts moves of the couple for courting) 3. preview shows lots of war and violent scenes, not even one for FL and ML reunion
Do I need to watch Princess Agents to understand this?
I watched the preview and the first scene I saw picked up the last scene from the Princess Agent so, I gues the answer is Yes. You should watch first the Princess Agent, not unless you want to read the novel...

Sui Yangqing cousin of Qi Min (groomed to be the alter crown prince). A woman who can beat him, he must have (spoiled brat mentality)
