such a good drama! the chemistry between the two ML were so good. I personally don't mind the ending. On the other hand I found it cheap to make an alternate one to satisfy fans... my only regret is getting spoiled hahah.
I feel bad for the people we lost along the journey who didn't get the recognition after their death and a sudden time skip happens and we never hear about them.
Just started this series (on ep 3), got a few concern if y'all can clear up. much appreciated
1) I know this is bromance but will it turn out like My roommate is a detective where the female character becomes something more? I'm seriously getting those vibes.
2) theres this "issue" or something about the finale and an alternate ending, according to the comments below. Without spoiling anything can someone explain whats going on? - I don't want to end up reading spoilers so I only glanced over it.
this sudden plot change is so bad... the story suddenly became: "rich brat suddenly realizes his body guard was hired by his rich father". Although it was possible and I was expecting it, I don't like how suddenly they throw this in here on the second to last episode... They could've hinted at it in the beginning and slowly revealed that Tian's dad has been in contact with Phupha to take extra special care of his son, but nope just to throw it all out of no where to add drama when the series is almost over is just poor in taste and cheapens all those special moments those two shared, in my opinion.
heard of this, never looked into it until now. apparently it finished airing today(?). Anyways, is this series good? I personally don't really like historical dramas... the last "historical" one was My roommate is a detective and that one is set in the 19(60s?) so....
anyways, seeing some positive reviews/comments below, what do y'all think of the show?
hesitant to start but finally watched 2/4 of ep 1.... to sum it in a word: ddddrrraaaaaaaggggggggyyyyyy that's what every scene felt like- super dragged on for no reason other than wasting your time. i was pressing ">" (fast forward) the whole time.....
also... I loved kao's portrayal in UMWA and his stoic and indifferent attitude in that show but then suddenly in this series his character is all sunshine and smiles which throws me off...
another thing.. the acting is awkward and cringe af... Idk if their acting is soooo good that it convinced me or they're really just bad at it.
since Tian admitted himself that he "killed" Torfun, I understand why the villagers and everyone reacted the way they did. What I fail to comprehend is that, why in all of the Thai BL shows I've watched, EVERYONE NEVER TURNS OFF EITHER THE FLASH OR THE SOUND when taking pictures.
If that issue causes you so much anxiety, why not watch bl from other places? This bua/mia thing is not a “problem”…
you really are delusional if you think words are just words, they aren't harmful to anybody. The proof is that it spreads heteronormativity - which is used against LGBTQ people regardless of where you live in the world. according to your logic, all BL portrayal of sexual assault trope is fine since they "won't hurt anybody".
You can be in denial but you're the ignorant one tbh. Also never claimed to be white so I'm not sure why you're assuming so much about me. Personally I said what I said and was not even trying to change anyone's mind. You are the one who's throwing personal attacks to make your point. That's just sad.
If that issue causes you so much anxiety, why not watch bl from other places? This bua/mia thing is not a “problem”…
Pretty sure you are detached from reality. Just because it's socially acceptable doesn't make it right. That doesn't necessarily mean its a "culture", it just shows a social norm. Social Norms changes as society changes but culture is preserved. The "N" word was socially acceptable back then, but was it morally right? you tell me.
SO what if I'm female? I can't be part of the LGBTQ community? I didn't know only GAY MALES were part of it or only they face stereotypes/discrimination. the fact that you had to check my profile and even mention it tells me how creepy and sexist you are.
Also I never claimed that I knew how they feel nor ought to feel. I just pointed out the problematic aspects and underlying issues of using this trope. Why do I need your permission to do so? I would gladly do so to any other shows with similar problematic theme - ahem overused sexual assault trope, ahem TharnType and many others.
You say its "teasing" and "flirting" but not once have I seen Tian agree to him being referred as the "wife". What is evident is that Tian said he is NOT phupha's wife yet phupha doesn't respect that. It's one thing to give each other pet names but another to use one that enforces heternormativity even after the other party said not to.
Believe me when I say it's indeed harmful. It wouldn't matter to me if Tian said he wanted to referred to as the wife, but again the fact is that he didn't. In this case, it does matter. People who watch it consume this mentality and then it starts to become a social norm and then there are people like you who will defend it when it's harmful. Just like how there are people who defend sexual assault tropes in BL. SMH
Again, just because I watch something and don't agree with it doesn't necessarily mean I can't watch it. The fact that you have to personally come at me just to make your point is pathetic. Not once did you back up your point that this is "cultural difference". Who gave you the right to tell me what I should or shouldn't watch? Who gave you the right to try to discredit my "opinion" - even tho it really isn't.
If that issue causes you so much anxiety, why not watch bl from other places? This bua/mia thing is not a “problem”…
first of all, I didn't mean to insult anyone's culture. Secondly, how is spreading hetero-normative ideologies, a "culture". read my other post below since I don't feel like repeating myself.
As for your other question... that pillow talk scene was cute af. As for why people don't talk about the village kids not having an actual school... I know there are people out there who's living standards are worse (villagers) and better (Tian's family) than mine. All I felt while watching the first ep when Tian was comparing his own life while reading Torfun's diary, was that I'm grateful for what I have? so to answer your question, (speaking for myself) I watched this for the romantic development of the two main casts and not the kids.
"wife" thing is kinda cringe for non-Thais but it's very common for Thais, not only BL but also straight couples,…
Thank you for explaining it so well. Honestly, I did not mean to trample on anyone's culture but I don't see how spreading hetero-normative ideologies - that a relationship consist of "husband" and "wives", is a Cultural difference. I'm not saying, "Tian shouldn't eat pig brains cuz thats gross", that is cultural difference. What I'm pointing out has actual underlying issues- such as stereotypes that a lbtq relationship have to have a "man" and 'woman" role and an issue of consent/respect because Tian repeatedly said "I'm not your wife" to phupha yet he continues to do so.
People have already explained with links but this is NOT a Thai BL problem. Real LGBTQ Thai people use Phua-Mia…
you are delusional if you don't see the underlying issues. As the person a few comments above explained it perfectly I will not reiterate it. All I can say is that I don't see how spreading hetero-normative ideologies - that a relationship consist of "husband" and "wives", is a Cultural difference. Eating pig brain is a cultural difference but spreading macroaggressions aren't. Don't get it twisted. Just because actual LGBTQ thai people use those terms doesn't make it ok. LGBTQ people can still spread stereotypes of their own community. In this case, did Phupha ask if Tian wanted to referred as his "Wife"? Did Tian personally say he wants to be referred to as such and gave consent to do so? No, all I see is that Tian repeatedly saying "I'm not your Wife". This shows issues of consent/respect. I don't see the cultural difference you're referring to.
ep 5 was still the best ep imo... like the past 2 eps havent been able to top that. Aside from that I really don't like the whole "wife" thing they keep bringing up... but then again this is a thai bl problem, not just exclusive to this show. I internally cringe every time
really good episode, got me emotional throughout the whole ep. the only thing that felt inconsistent was how Tian suddenly become a teacher... when he was basically nothing before
Sorry but the only toxic bl fans are the ones who didn´t like the drama since the first episodes and "were hesitant…
what is this twisted logic? just because we see something problematic and we point it out doesn't make us toxic. Yes I complained about this show since the very beginning. Yes I'm still watching the episodes whenever I have time. and yes I still comment about the crap that pisses me off each episode. and No that doesn't make me toxic. You know what is toxic tho? Fans like you who ignore the problems and then proceed to call the others who point it out are the toxic ones. You could've cherry picked which ever comment you wanted to read or not, no one is forcing this onto you. and like you said, "The comment section is full of the same kind of comments in almost every bl drama since 2020." IF ITS SO COMMON FOR ALMOST EVERY BL, THEN MAYBE LOOK AT THE CORRELATING ISSUE? Doesn't that in itself suggest the only thing toxic is the script?! but I guess ignorance is bliss.
this series always manages to piss me off, EVERY EPISODE. EP 8, they went from "I don't like men... I like the person regardless of gender" (which is better than I don't like men only [insert character] trope) to FREAKING "we're not boyfriends, we're HUBBY AND WIFEY" THIS SHIT PISSES ME OFF TO THE ENDS OF THE WORLD. THAI BL AND THEIR OVERUSE OF HUBBY AND WIFEY IS SO CRINGE.
The more I see chon, the more he deserved to be splashed by Amp. Dude might as well be flaunting his "happiness" with Ton IN FRONT OF NA, or rather he IS. Notice how Chon is the only one who has not even once talked to NA or apologized to him after using Na for his own personal gain.
