haha, it can also be "You Cannot Die Yet!" (but the person ends up dying and fast!)ORI Cannot Die YetORI…
As always. U are too darn funny AW! πππ I vote 'I Cannot Die Yet' is a contender. Or, 'I will come back for your life', and your horses, and your duck, and your wife, and your children...
A self reflecting drama that could also be titled The Killing Chart or Death to Manifest, or even Why Kill/Why Die.
Why all the killing finally came into focus for me during episode 21. How has this drama kept me at the edge of my seat since day one? I am exhausted with the killing/death and am still unable to turn away. For now, my perspective is that the writer, in lieu of using story development sticky notes, started out by creating a killing chart that is fill-able with endless manifestations of death and dying to create his 'can not look away' storyline.
In this drama, the ML is killing and the SML is death and the writer uses killing as a core concept and the supporting and guest characters endless deaths to advance his 'more important than life & death is how we approach it' storyline. Starting out with the premise that some killing is okay even necessary, each kill and death we see represents a complicated part of human nature and the human heart including and starting with the 'acceptable' killing including the credo of honour (e.g., the military, the murder of a family member, etc.) - Gu Yu & Xie Huai An .
The writer also gives us insight into some of his kill chart rules by identifying the differences between being a killer by circumstance, need, necessity, or convenience vs an individual characters' need to find a reason to kill and in turn even enjoy it (e.g., young emperor & Su Chang Lin). And, when it is and is not okay to die ala 'serving the country/kingdom' and 'for a good cause'.
IOW the writer is demonstrating the different categories of death and dying and using it to challange us to think about where we ourselves plot the killing/death on his drama chart and what meaning we assign it - e.g., determining who and what is good vs bad. Who knew that killing and death could be so complicated. No wonder we are not bored yet.
Extending the young emperor Xiao Wen Jing's storyline conversation...where he fits on the writers killer chart.
The writer is careful to point out that in his childhood the young emperor showed signs of mental instability. A trail of 'killer crazy' bread crumbs leading us to not be surprised that he makes the choices he does with an axe. There is no rational beyond his ego to kill and he actually enjoys it. Puts him at the top of the sadistic psycho killer box in this drama. Seems it would be a mistake to make excuses for him and/or try to rationalize his behavior vs just taking him at face value. He fits into the overall narative of the drama and plays his role whatever he is doing or not doing when he is not axing people does not make him any less of a stone cold sadistic killer.
So this is a chess game playing within a Go board? After all the chess pieces are done, now it's time to see how…
This has to be one of my fav comments for this drama. So insightful. Second the interview with the creator. Someone here on the board recommended that the writer give a writing class to all the other drama writers. Not such a crazy thought.
Added to my Soon to Watch list. I did some searching and it looks like this drama will air the last episodes December…
Would like to add a caution. Usually binge watch. So glad I did not with this drama. A binge watch will set your mind, heart, and perhaps soul back a good week. Its very intense and often shocking. In fact, not sure it ever stops shocking in nearly every episode. Buckle up and good luck. π
A solid list. a. YZ must be alive. At least I hope so. b. Qingyi and his mom - if they do not show up it will be a disappointment. Even if its a catch up on where they are and what they are doing. The writer is so darn good. Gotta believe.
