Ten Miles do not make them pale because they are lazy. They are properly color coded for character. Green for Bai Qian, Ye Hua always wear Black, Bai FengJiu always wear fiery color such red or orange. When Bai Qian become Susu, she always wear muted brown unimpressive color.

Pale costumes popularized by Ten Miles. Deity used to be crowded and so colorful. If you watch old TVB show like Journey to the West, you will know. So by make costumes pale, they practically deconstruct the established genre. But sadly pale costumes become boring cliche and overused now.
