I too couldn't finish baghban yet! But i remember salman keeping a picture of Amitabh bacchan in temple. The two…
Like my username suggests, zyadaatar meri sabse manpasand hindi ki filme bahut puraani hain, so for "family" recommendations, I would offer Brahmachari , for a special kind of family and the magic of Shammi and Rafi together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=II1_eTlHcHA
My favourite Dramaland parent-child bond is the one in Bara No Nai Hanaya, with the r94 parents not far behind. Of the 400 or so Indian films I've watched Baghban must be the WORST - the very CONCEPT is repellent, that a parent is "God", and there's not a single likeable character in the film. Amitabh has been in some very dire films in his long career, that stinker a serious contender for top 3 awful
Goblin was one of the best K-dramas from the last decade. You're missing out by avoiding it, (in my humble opinion.)
I absolutely LOATHE supernatural and fantasy elements, and will not watch any Drama built around them. The idea of watching Goblin is very literally repellent to me.
It's fascinating that all the shows mentioned in both the article and the comments are shows I've actively avoided and am glad to have done so. In the 7 years I've been watching Dramas very, very few have left me struggling to move on. The ones that did, even a little, were mostly those that felt a bit incomplete, like Hannari Girori no Yoriko-san, Okitegami Kyoko no Biboroku and Otenki Onee-san. All my super faves tended to leave me feeling very satisfied, happy to rewatch some of them, but ont feeling like I was missing anything, and that inlcudes shows like Miss Korea, A Love So Beautiful and Yeah That's How It Is which I marathonned addicitively.
Fated To Love You is possibly the ONLY Drama where I saw the original first yet VASTLY prefer the remake. I hate the way the ML in the original remains an incredibly selfish, misogynist bully for almost the entire series, the Korean ML is a very much nicer person, right from episode one. And I especially hate that in the original the 2FL DELIBERATELY did what she did to the FL, whereas in the 2nd, though the outcome was the same it was not the 2FL's intent. That made it so much easier to forgive. Having an actual ballerina PLAY a ballerina helped, too. :)
So, if the PRC remake also tones down on those elements of the original that I disliked, I will be happy to watch it
SUNG DONG IL! You mention his appearance in Reply 1988, the only one of the three I can't be bothered watching, but his performances in 97 and 94 , are AMZING! His cancer scenes, so powerful and moving, and of course the incredible partnership with Lee Il Hwa, they anchor both of the 1st two "Reply"s
I understand your distaste for dreadful characters who receive absolution. Fang Si Jin's mother is a viper and…
Thank you for the VERY well expressed reply. I Shall persevere, chanting the addicts Mantra "FF is my Friend" for every time the Witch with a B is on screen :)
I should add that I'm perfectly fine with "I choose to let go of hate", it's the nasty K Drama habit of the FSJ-type character actually ending up begging TO BE FORGIVEN by the evil Mother From Hell for having failed to worship and adore the woman who gave birth to her. THAT makes rage homicidal/suicidal, depending on Drama length
Serious question, I really WANT spoilers on this: What happens with the Satanspawn mother? I absolutely HATE Dramas where are mother is the incarnation of evil, then somehow gets forgiven because "Ma!". If this Drama is like that, I will drop. So I need to know, please tell me how much that evil hag is in the Drama and what happens with her?
As a fan of TwoSet Violin, I know they're ESPECIALLY scathing of the ludicrous levels of inaccuracy in C-Dramas set in the world of classical music. I wonder if this is will be the next C music Drama they savage? :D
