Is it because I saw the anime or the acting is really weird. Mostly uenoyama. I am not saying the drama is bad…
You're spot on, Suzuki emotes in a very heightened anime style. It distracted me for only a second and I soon appreciated it though, i donno i see it as him expressing himself in a raw unfiltered state. Maybe its the chemistry he has with his costar or how he otherwise comes across as believably lovestruck that makes this style work for me - I can totally see how this can be unsettling or distracting - i'm surprised it isn't ruining the show for me actually.
I really like the show. I never expected to appreciate the touch of anime in the style of acting done by Suzuki Jin - he manages to bring real emotion to those heightened emotions. The story and characters are revealed wonderfully episode by episode and the chemistry between the main stars, which I'd like to give more credit to Suzuki for, is absolutely believable.
Getting good actors in a crispy well written and confidently directed drama is really the icing on the cake - it makes it one of those satisfying complete BLs with very little or nothing to complain about. Can we call this one of the classics?
it's simple & a job done well. After being around BLs for the past few months I have come to understand it's not that easy to come by good little dramas like these that get most things right. -so i'm not holding back my appreciation one bit.
Seriously, am a newbie to BLs but there was a moment where I thought I was already over BLs becuase of the low quality content i was filling my time with - then I came across this randomly in a youtube multifandom bl mv edit and thank god I had the patience to give it a try. I don't know what's making it hard to give shows a try these days - i've gotten so used to compromising and settling with my BLs i guess that i no longer associated BLs with being engrossing anymore. Guess, you always need to keep trying and testing new shows in this space - you just never know the next one might just work.
It was driving me crazy trying to understand why this had such a anime feel to it. Finally I realised its about…
AGREE with you but I think it's more than that - the actor who plays Uenoyama, his acting style is very anime as well - he emotes like an anime character - like those high voltage emotional outbursts - the director seems to have taken it into account as well. it legit has the same feel of watching an anime at times.
Im only watching this show for Ou wen & Mark. for some reason I assumed everyone waiting here on mydramalist is waiting for the same reason. it's BL all the way for me.
I like this show, but I think that you provided a well thought opinion. I don't think this was your intent, but…
I get where you're coming from totally, but this is something entirely different.
When it comes to casting for this series, the role demands certain characteristics based on the past & experiences of this character - this character has been living by his fists, working as a member in a gang - it's a life where your interiors & exteriors toughen up, you have to ward off threat constantly with a intimidating wall. Also, when casting for a show, they are casting here to create a contrast between the two main characters - you have a spoilt unruly kid like the gangster's son & to contrast with that you need someone who looks and sounds quite the opposite from gun.
There is no implication that Boat is not "man enough" but rather he doesn't sound like someone who's seen the hard life. Voice is also a facet of your personality. For example, look at women who rise up in corporate world to become CEOs or female politicians & what not- their voices might not exactly hoarsey and low, but there's a certain gravitas in their speech that you can tell - yeah, these people are in a leadership position, you can't mess with them and you can tell from how they speak that they're used to handling all sorts male & female subordinates - those women aren't exactly soft spoken or cutsey but sound amazingly assertive with a certain power to them.
So in the same manner, If you're a member of some gang or you're living on the streets and have to rely on your wits & fists to get by, trust me, the person will not sound soft and will present very differently - boat has got everything right but he could have modulated his voice - Actor's have to modulate their voices based on the roles given to them, it's a part of creating the character. Based on the storyline & characterization, the dynamic between the two leads works best when their characters are distinct & contrast in these aspects. None of this implies non-macho guys are not man enough at all.
UNPOPULAR OPINION: I am a little disappointed with the storyline of the show.
Golden Blood is not compelling to watch. After considering what the korean mini series, Where Your Eyes Linger, did with the same premise of Bodygaurd-Master, the tone of the show, the story, characterization & the tension that the korean story had - Golden Blood doesn't even try to come close.
I have no problems with fluffy puppy love shows like this, I don't mind when things are not as serious or darker toned but this one was a missed opportunity. You've got two opposites, a spoilt kid & a dutiful hardened-by-life bodyguard - they could have done much more with this dynamic. This show isn't well written - it's just good enough with sweet moments but not really good. I won't be surprised if they follow the same climax and ending of Where Your Eyes Linger.
And i think Boat is overrated - great looker & good actor but after I saw his interviews, I can't see him as the tough guy anymore. Even in the show his voice is too high toned for me to believe he is his character.
I do not reccomend anyone to SKIP this show. If you like BL's this will do the trick but if you wanted a expanded version of Where your eyes linger, you won't find it here - Golden Blood is a light hearted cutsey show for those lazy sunday afternoons - it's not bingeworthy but good enough to satisfy your BL appetite if you're in between shows
is this coming on the 25th or not ? This show is essential for so many faint hearted bl lovers here. Literally have no other bls to watch, everything else airing is lame. Imagine after all the wait and the storyline of dai ou wen and mark is just like 2 min in this episode...imagine if thats the case..
Anyone else got a little disheartened when Tae Kyung said no to Shin Woo after he specifically said he wanted him to be with him for karaoke? It seems Tae has set his sights very firmly on Da On right now.
I know the drama will change course and come to them tae Kyung-Shin woo as the main couple but for now - i was surprised to see how Tae Kyung wasn't moved by Shin Woo's very clear display of interest in friendship - becuase my understanding was that Tae has unconsciously fallen for Shin Woo and that he would have a soft corner for him even if he wasn't aware of it.
Also, this doesn't feel like a real school, all we see is the student coucil & corridors, is this because of the pandemic restrictions on shooting - the world they've created isn't believable to me so far. It's strange not one scene show Tae in a classroom or one scene shows Tae Kyung eating a meal with his family or that other students don't seem to exist. it's like im watching a youtube cut of only student council scenes.
Would have loved this MORE if this was set in a university, it could have easily been as the actos ages match. Those uniforms make them look like middle schoolers & honestly not flattering - why do they do this?
This is an adorable film, it's a light watch. i was nervous to watch this becuase usually a story involving cross-dressing might get too serious/heartbreaking ... but thankfully i didn't have to see the mc suffer at the hands of society. there's no bullying or harassment in this film and i'm thankful the manga kept things sweet and nice.
the episode basically just covered a date and that's it and a dramatic confrontation. I don't know if it's just me but their love story should have a good balance of shwoing them in a school setting as well, with incremental hints of affection & obsession, and then something interesting happening that creates tension when in the mix of friends & contrast that with their absolutely different dynamic when alone at home - that's what's the show should go for.
Where Your Eyes Linger comes to mind, the way the gangster's son played with the feelings of his bodyguard just to illicit a reaction - they don't have to do the same thing but there needs to be more conflict & tension or a will they-won't they vibe in the relationship to keep us on edge - they can't just land into puppy love this quick. Ffs Sky was serenading Sun with a song in this ep....its too soon
just found this show. Youtube randomly brought it up in my search results - why are bl storylines like these not recommended or featured in lists here?
As if the first half wasn't tragic enough, the writer pulls the rug out beneath you and bamn, it's no longer a BL story...it's now a non-sexual paedophilic male-female love story , with an even sadder ending.
I don't care how poetic it is, why would the writer go there.
When the first half ended, the writer didn't follow where the story was supposed to go...instead, everything is just scrapped and he throws reincarnation into the mix and it becomes a completely different movie.
BL review - The Earth-Sam-Stud triangle has a meaningless ending. the story did not end according to what they were building up to. it makes no sense. i feel cheated. Off to season 2, they've adjusted the story there i can see.
