They... managed to walk a tight line on censorship so far. I’m very impressed I’ll just say that. Story order, events and settings have been all been changed a bit, but I can still relate the novel chapter to the episode I’m watching so I have zero complaints so far. It honestly just keeps getting better and better, and I hope it continues this way.
4 episodes in: Damn. For the first half the of the first episode I was still a bit iffy about it, but afterwards it started to pick up the story pace and it's been a joy to watch so far. I have read the novel.
Plot summary [Spoiler free]: Our main character (MC) is a member of a powerful organisation. He no longer desires to be part of it, so he leaves. Due to the organisations strict rules and secrets, he only has 3 years to live so he decides to spend his last three years sightseeing Jianghu and drinking good wine. During that time, he meets our other male lead (ML). Though ML's origin are a mystery, the two become friends (since ML sticks to MC like glue), and they work together to try to unravel a conspiracy, as MC also has a side quest to uncover ML's identity.
So far, the drama changed some things from the novel, but the essence of the story is still the same, and seems to be headed towards the novel ending. This drama has been very action packed, and doesn't spend too much time dwindling with conversation. Though the choreography has been pretty good, I'm personally not a fan of how they edit it, even though the cinematography has also been really good, but this is just a pet peeve. Acting has also been decent, nothing to really critique at or praise yet. As for chemistry, that's up for you to decide since I'm not exactly a romance watcher and don't think I can give fair insight on that with only 4 episodes (although I can say there's a lot of subtle flirting and just like the novel, our MC is a tsundere.).
It's not a 10/10, but it's 100% worth at least watching the first 4 episodes to see if you click with it. In fact, the first 2 episodes are enough to decide whether or not you'll want to keep watching, so I recommend giving it a try.
I've never seen the UK version, but I just took a quick glance of the wikipedia. A lot of base concepts are the same, like scientist father that has robot sons and daughters that want to live their own lives, but from waht I've read the story of the cdrama is going in a different direction.
There is a planned season 2 right? Cause unless they cram everything in there's no way we'll get a clean conclusion by the end of the series. Also, the series drags slightly in episode 20s, but picks up pace again later for those who are there and worried about the very slow and still story.
Seen 4 episodes and I'll say that I really like it. This is a series with a lot of moral questioning and generally frustrating story, but for those who like thrillers will surely enjoy the tension the series gives. You've also got a set of flawed but still lovable or at least understandable characters, which makes everyone feel very human. Visually, it looks smooth and the CGI is not bad. It's on the desaturated side, which gives off a vibe fitting for the perception of being set in the future. It's worth giving a try.
Edit: 8 episodes in. My opinion still stands. In fact I like it even more now ~
I was doubtful of the ML at first, but after watching the first episode I will gladly admit my doubts were wrong. Ah this is so cute, can't wait to watch more~
Actors of some of the best character in Joy of Life as the main leads? Yes please. I'll start now since people seem to be enjoying it and I don't want to fall too far behind~
It's.... eh? Thing is I'm a web drama watcher, and usually don't care for budget issues as long as characters and story are charming. There's just something about this that's off and kinda boring. The acting isn't bad, but everything else has a weird feel to it.
Take a shot everytime you hear "A-Xu"
Also I almost forgot that Simon Gong also played Xia Yao in Advance Bravely ;--;
Lin Yi in a BL adaptation. I'm in.
