From what I remember, Xiang Lang in the novel didn't have romantic feelings for Yifan. He just did stuff to purposefully annoy Sang Yan because they didn't get along well in school - like saying him and YF had a promise to go to Yihe uni together when they actually didn't just to rile Sang Yan up.. So yeah not sure why the drama is adding him liking YF in suddenly (maybe to give Zhai Xiao Wen some more acting to do haha) but seems like the new episodes clears things about YF's feelings thankfully ^^

Right! The easter eggs are super funny and sooo appreciated in the drama <3 Last episode with SY gobbling down the food just to quickly get back to Yifan was hilarious. It's a really nice way for them to add his POV and to add extra scenes that weren't in the novel/manhua like the one you mentioned. I just hope they don't expand too much on this added plotline of Xiang Lang's unrequited love for YF ;;

I agree!! This show has so much rewatch value especially since they are slowly releasing bit by bit and it'll be nice to go back to put all the pieces together. If you haven't read the novel already, I would really recommend it! The drama adaptation is really comparable but the novel does delve quite a bit more into their thoughts and feelings!

Exactly! She definitely wouldn't give him the time of day if she wasn't interested in him ^^ He really brings out that different side of her and I can't wait for more cute moments when she fully unleashes her GF side and how Sang Yan will always just give in to her

- Calling SY headliner and commenting how it was a shame Overtime is just a respectable bar (teasing implying he is the best drawcard for women to come pay $$ for his top host services lol)
- Texts “it’s also fine if you’re not happy” as if grumpy after he doesn’t reply to her NY wish
- Constantly clocking him > calling /him/ junior, calling out his stalking tendencies, SY: I can do everything YF: … except cook noodles for one person, SY: I have one flaw YF: Only /one/? (lmao Yass YF call him out on his ridiculous bullshit haha)
- Teasing (Lying) about his lowered zipper and how people were talking about it
- Voicing out her negative opinion about his bar’s signboard being unnoticeable and unappealing (in contrast XL complains that normally she have no real opinion and would just say everything is 'pretty good')
- Shaking her head no & staring sadly at SY when XL says he was the one to promise to go to Yihe Uni with her
- Re-watching Sang Yan's viral video and enjoying it thoroughly
- Rushing to check on Sang Yan's leftover porridge and worrying about his thoughts and how he would react to her behavior
- Wondering who he is bringing over for dinner and whether it's a girlfriend

If it were anyone else, she wouldn't even care about them and would just ignore it all.

Their love was definitely mutual. Yifan just didn’t think she worthy of his care, time and love and didn’t want to drag him into her dark world and felt she couldn’t love him back as passionately as she felt he deserved to be loved. Also because he kept travelling to Beiyu to visit her at least once a month after she transfers schools initially, and especially didn’t want him to do that after she moves even further to Yihe after the assault takes place.

But don’t worry, soon Yifan will finally get the guts to want to be with Sang Yan and will (attempt to) pursue him in her efforts to date him!! :)

I saw some people saying they felt this love is too one-sided and Yifan is oblivious to it which is actually quite untrue! Admittedly her feelings are very subtle early on but considering she knows she broke his heart in the past and how she thought he pretended not to know who she was when they first ran into each other again, it's no wonder she doesn't want to assume his intentions now especially since she is still feeling very guilty. But !! there have already been quite a few moments that hint towards how Yifan was (and is still) interested by Sang Yan and how he is the one that can bring out her more mischievous and playful side. It is contrasted by how apathetic and uncaring she is about everything & everybody else, showing how special Sang Yan is to her.

It wasn't explained, but I think he just didn't post any pictures etc on his moments so she just thought she was blocked because she couldn't see anything there. It goes a bit differently in the novel so I can only assume wha the drama shows!

The subs are a bit weird but the text conversation is:

YF: Happy New Year
SY: ?
YF: ?

But SY doesn't reply back so YF writes: It's also fine if you're not happy (because he wasn't replying to accept her NY wish or return her one lol)

She thought he blocked her because she couldn't see his moments page but when she sent out a group mass text to say Happy New Year to everyone, she also sent it to him, and he replied her with the question mark indicating he did receive her message. She also lifted her privacy settings on her own moments (where she posted her pictures) so that's why she initially wanted to text back if he knew who she was

I think some people need to realise that this is not a story of a quick fix-it romance but a slowburn one that needs to be carefully picked apart and unravelled before you can attain the rewards.

Even the Chinese title says it all: "Hard to coax" - This is related to Yifan who has gone through tremendous trauma and has become an impenetrable wall of defence where she is living in survivor mode. She is very pretty but emotionally unavailable and not overtly friendly which can be mistranslated to a sense of haughtiness/superiority so a lot of people get the wrong idea about her. But this is just her defence mechanism - as she says: “Like an injury, if you ignore it long enough, the pain will go away”. What’s the use in trying to fight against people gossiping? It will just keep snowballing if she’s in the spotlight and she would prefer it to just fade away.

You also can't victim blame her because she has always done the right things by trying to turn to her family for help, and reporting harassment to the police or company higher ups - but she keeps getting abandoned and the system keeps failing her which is actually very realistic and true to life. She only went back to her old flat because the guy was still being held by the police and didn’t expect his friends to be there. She already found somewhere new to live and it’s probably hard to get a hotel that will allow pets on short notice, neither does she has a real support system to urgently house her or can keep imposing on Siqiao esp considering how full her place already is.

It’s like some people just want to see badass FL who will loudly/physically stand up for herself, have lots of money and can solve all her own problems without help straightaway which just isn’t everyone’s reality…

The drama has actually already laid good foundation hinting at the sides of Yifan that just needs to be coaxed out by the right situations or the right person. I've seen some comments about how she's not suited to be a reporter because of her passivity but just because she isn’t extroverted, doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t work certain roles - she is efficient and professional during her interviews- she is also transitioning from a written newspaper back in Yihe to TV journalism in Nanwu so it is a big change for her regarding work. And when push comes to shove, Yifan has the innate ability to do what is needed - bravely saving people in an overturned car or immediately trying to do a news report when she hears Sang Yan's apt is on fire etc.

Understandably since this is a modern drama sharing the universe of Hidden Love, people were probably expecting something different, but just know it is totally the opposite vibe. Both Sang Yan and Sang Zhi grew up in a family that was warm and filled with love. Hidden Love is more light and sweet because it is Sang Zhi’s POV. But Frost Frost is Yifan’s POV so no wonder it is much more complicated and moody. The present time line in first 6 eps also essentially spans less than 1 month - how you can expect someone as complex as her to let down her walls so suddenly?

I hope people watching will give it the time it needs!

actually yifan meeting djx at their shared flat is a newly added scene for the drama! in the novel she first sees his picture only after her and sangyan become a couple and sang yan gets grumpy because he thinks she is staring so long at how handsome djx is and yifan just says she wanted to see what her love rival looked like LOLLL

but yes hopefully they add a few more playful scenes with djx x sy haha !!

when sang yan takes off his jacket and unzips his sweater a bit and yifen immediately says no nudity in public spaces and he replies: ... you really wish, huh

also when yifan meets djx for the first time coming out of the shower and immediately thinks about the both of them being the implied gay campus heart-throb couple this show is literally so funny *flashbacks to djx requesting sang yan to call him ge ge*

i agree! i rewatched it and the mandarin dialogue is fine, it's just the way the policewoman is speaking a bit lethargically- probably likely she wasnt even filming with ruo nan in person and just voiced over the scene later in dubbing

icb the drama made wen yifan's life even more miserable ;____; FYI she doesnt actually get sexually assaulted this many times in the novel..

but i do like that drama is portraying how even after boulder after boulder suffocating her, it exactly shows how yifan is truly a survivor. esp the part when she went up to the wife and child of the molester and told her it wasn't her fault before questioning her own self made me want to cry and hug her and say its never your fault either yifan!!! (and when she finally lets sang yan be the one to comfort her - *chefs kiss*) but after all she's been thru you can see how it has shaped her broken and subdued personality, how she wears super baggy clothes and shuts her self off from most people.. personally i think zhang ruo nan is doing a great job in portraying yifan so far.

i think this drama will have really good rewatch value to be able to put all the pieces of the puzzle together when everything is fully revealed

he is sooooo petty and jealous lmao man would risk the safety of everyone by turning xiang lang's mirror away just so that his love rival couldn't look at his future wife

both in the drama and novel, she is sexually assaulted (pushed onto a bed and held down) but not raped. she is saved by others before anything else happens
in the novel, her uncle who is the main sexual assaulter to teen yifan actually does rape and kills another young girl which leads him to being finally investigated and arrested later on - i dont know if they will expand on this in the drama (likely won't show the actual scenes), but these are warnings for you just in case you wish to start the show!

agreed with the above commenter about their love always was mutual but bc of circumstances yifan couldnt show sangyan in the past, BUT!! if you watched one of the official trailers, they kept one of the iconic lines - yifan drops the bombshell comment: "if i were to pursue you, would you consider it?" - this is actually the start of yifan's pursuit of sangyan when she finally gives in to her desire to be with him in present time :) so when sangyan was bragging about someone chasing him, he actually was just being honest lmao

the present timeline is actually during the same timeline as hidden love - in HL, sangyan makes a comment he has someone pursuing him and actually he wasnt lying lol also when sangyan flies to yihe and finds out djx is dating sang zhi, yifan later also turns up in yihe during this time and this is quite a pivotal moment in their relationship in the novel :)

the novel also show yifan attending qian fei's wedding as sangyan's plus 1 (she arrives after sangzhi and djx leave the wedding which is why we dont see yifan then in HL) hehe

actually it looks like in the drama the side couple will be su hao an and zhong si qiao which was different in the novel -both characters only had few scenes and would pop up occasionally only - siqiao dated/fangirled over some random men in passing and encouraged yifan to flirt/date but ironically there was a scene where they both admitted they had no idea how to flirt properly lol

only side couple in the novel is sang zhi x djx which is the concurrent hidden love timeline but bc they are in a different city during this time you dont get to see much of them either
