I have this theory, the female lead is the sole survivor of the Linshen mountain, everyone in the mountain actually died during or after the attack of the royal army sent by the Dowager, the then Queen, to isolate the mountain but the army killed everyone, engineered by the evil minister without the knowledge of the Dowager.What the female leads says now as if there were still people living in the mountain is pure imagination. This is truly a well written screenplay.

so ep 9 is leading us to the fact the the ml's brother knew the fl's mother and had saved her from some situation. I am intrigued, can't wait to see how it unfolds .

finished watching ep 8, think this may be the less interesting, most (and only) anticlimactic episode aired so far. The scene of the step sister with the alleged killer is ridiculous..

it is not on Netflix, true, at least not here in Europe. Netflix makes poor choice, to my taste. It has Ashes to Crown, but I choose The first of jasmine over it with eyes closed.

Wetv is quite useless when it comes to viewer satisfaction, first, they take our subscription money but pull regional restrictions on contents, so we don't see all that is available in China, second, they take our money paid to buy express, but don't update their app on TV so that we can only watch the "express" episodes on phone.Yeah I can mirror image from phone to TV, but hell Wetv can't just take money and walk away.

indeed, I too find it marvelous how they drop flashbacks and imaginery scenes so to provide us all a fuller picture of what happened in the past, and what goes on in the minds of the leads, these scenes are short but very telling and constructive. I truly enjoy this drama this way and hate myself keep checking previews and trailers alike, I need to stop doing it so to enjoy the whole story more when things come into play.

does anyone know how this drama is doing in China? The rating here does not do the drama justice..

Disagreement is understandable as each forms his/her own opinion. In fact, I totally disagree to your comments on the First Jasmine, I find excellent cast and acting, great costumes and captivating cinematography all delivered along a great storytelling.

I was quite all geared up to watch this drama expecting great storytelling, scenes and cinematography, bit it has turned out to be quite limited in all aspects, feel disappointed, it must be due to budget constraints.

can't wait for the drama to get into the thick of things, episodes aired up to now have just scratched the surface of the main plot or there may be more than one single plot..

I was so looking forward to new episodes but just found out the airing time has been postponed by 6 hrs...

watched episodes aired so far, very good pacing, flashbacks help to clear and explain the wheres and whys efficiently and not dragging. Both leads are excellent to portrait the roles they cover, Natural and great actings. I also find the makeup of Bai Lu in this drama natural and light, and the male lead Is every inch a suffering general. Everything is so convincing, can't wait for more episodes!!

watching the 1st episode as I write, an excellent start, an intelligent girl who survives and outwits family members who aim at her fortune.. love a strong female lead story and delivered by great directing and cast. The costumes and cinematography are well studied and produced. A joy to follow...

oh I forgot to say this, I consider this drama one of the best written and produced, be it an adaptation of an novel or othrwise.It ia rich in content but not confusing or superficial as seen in many, too many dramas of this genre (spirits, sects, magics, warriors, kings, evils, etc), managed to center the main theme on the leads without the classic trope. it is a success, a total success.

I don't like too much this genre of dramas but this one has me coming back to rewatch again and again, the chemistry between the leads, their actings, the cast, the story and how it flows nice and steady with great pacing, the CGI, there is nothing I don't like about this drama, nothing at all. I do hope some capable screenwriter will do another drama of this magnitude and with the same main leads in it, it will be such a great watch to look forward to !

Glad to see the rating is climbing up, do think it deserving. Watched the first few episodes and have decided to pause so to binge watch thru the end, it has only 24 episodes and is almost halfway there already, it won't be a long wait.

one of the worse screenplays ever written.

so this drama has 24 episodes in total, I have watched the first 4, it gives me the vibe of a classic short drama story and directing, quick, jumpy in content and a no nonsense sequencing, delivering to viewers an overall narrative rather than moving on steadily with details. Nonetheless I find it refeeshing and interesting enough to keep on watching it.

That Tian Beng something really deserves a brutal death!!
