I have dropped the drama for now and have started watching something else.

I hate to say but the coupling of the leads feels off. She has little feminine expressions, she simply keeps her eyes wide, stiff in body movement, while he has the looks of a young man willing to accept and appreciate, looking right into her eyes. I have always appreciated the female lead's performance, but she is not the right fit for CZY in this drama, don't know if she acted under the strict direction of the director, is it because of change after her maternity or something else.

I feel you, to this day I still see Allen Ren in that drama in which he suffered bone breaking death by the hand of a young emperor and Bai Lu who jumped off the palace following his death..I don't recall the title but his death and hers haunt me each time I watch a drama with forthcomong bad ending, and I drop it as soon as I find out it ends badly.

Damn, there are clips on YouTube and Weibo that depict a different ending from the novel, in the novel the leads get married, but in the drama, she serves as minister. It doesn't always happen that we get happy ending in novels, but when we do get one, the drama changes it to bad ending to draw tears, total bullshit. I am going to pause from watching this drama and would pick it up again only if it ends with a happily after.

I am really off adult actors and actress playing teenagers in school, I have gone beyond my level of tolerance after so many, too many dramas with this trope.

Netflix, Prime, Viki are better streaming platforms, they don't freeze, the speed does not suffer from FF or FB, they have better subtitles, the only drawback these platforms have is they are behind the actual airing schedule, a delay of 24 hrs is quite the standard

so most of us are thinking the same thing, the right chancellor is the one actually plotting against the emperor, working with the gang. This having said, the left chancellor is no small innocent fish, he backs corrupted officials, including the devious prefect who died in the beginning of the drama. The young emperor is surrounded literally by corrupted people in court, the female lead is like the only righteous light in a deep dark tempestuous sea, who can blame him for using her, supporting her?
I do find the choice of CZY to play the young emperor excellent, very befitting. WJY, the female lead is very capable to play dramatic roles, she has proved this in many of her work in the past years, this time her makeup artist went overboard to cover her face with red around her eyes and too heavy white powder on her face, many close up shots do more harm than good to cover her age, if that was the goal.

just finished watching ep 10, the masked man who works with the head of the gang has to be the right chancellor, the build, the voice match.

I actually think period dramas give him a more manly look, they come always with fighting scenes, intrigues that need to be delivered with fierce and calculated looks etc and costumes dress him up to better support his presence.

As I replied earlier on regarding the dubbing, I literally saw a couple of clips on youtube showing CZY doing dubbing in a studio for this drama, in the video, it shows both him dubbing and the scene. He did the dubbing himself.

He didnt use his own voice? I actually saw a couple of clips on youtube in which he was in a recording studio dubbing scenes.

Chen Zhe Yuan is perfect for this role, a young emperor who struggles to shine, to reform the country and rid of being held hostage by the elderly in court. Jeremy Xu is too matured for this role, and frankly speaking, to me, his poise and diction in period dramas have always been lacking, or else with the years he has has in this industry, he would have made a more successful career. As for the female lead, yes, she does look a bit old for her role here, but hey she is a badass for this type of character, I personally prefer to see her here than younger actresses who perform perfunctorily or even less only because they are young and pretty. There are plenty young and beautiful actresses in the Chinese entertainment industry, but only a few can really own the characters they play and not self conscious in front of a rolling camera.

I do hope so, they have been feeding us with one daily episode since Friday. This airing schedule can't boost viewership, I literally skipped watching when they stopped giving 2 episodes a day, and "sustain" my thirst thru catching glimpse of previews until I at least get a couple of episodes to watch in one go.

this one episode a day is permanent till the end???
