Good news! Seems like He Yu is filming end of August! Pray everything goes smoothly, good script, good director and reliable filming/production team.

Right?! Never felt so disgusted with a character before. Prince Xin is a first lol. The things he did truly made me speechless. Worst part is, this character isn’t like this in the novel. Don’t understand the ppl who claim to have experienced second lead syndrome or feel bad for him lol.

Their chemistry will show later when she falls for him. But in early parts of the show, she’s mostly focused on power. It has to do with their character set up. Their relationship is slow burn. But when they fall for each other, they’re really sweet. Personally I don’t think their chemistry lose to the second couple at all. Keep watching!

Hope we get to see this drama soon. If we're lucky, maybe end of this year or early next year.

He has a historical drama coming up, Reborn of the Rightful. But no new projects confirmed yet. He said he's still looking for scripts. It's just industry is in a slump right now. He prob doesn't have much options either. I think he's one of those versatile actors who is suitable for both modern and period dramas, so whatever projects he films, I'll just trust his judgement and choice.

There's a melon about him acting with Li Lan Di, but nothing confirmed yet. Have to wait a bit longer.

I'm actually so proud of him. It wasn't easy for him and his fans. He gets targeted by marketing accounts and haters since the start of this drama, but he never bothered buying hot searches or anti-hate marketing. He accepted all criticism with a positive attitude, focused on promoting his drama and let his character do the talking. Xiao Hua Yong won over quite a lot of passerby. Many discovered him from BOP and went to checked out his other works.

It's not that he was hesitant to take on lead roles in costume dramas, it's more like he didn't have much opportunities. He has to audition to earn his roles unless he gets chosen like in SAL (thank you script writer) and BOP (thank you Meng Zi YI). In fact, his first roles that attracted audience's attention were both costume/ historical dramas (Dashing Youth and Legend of Shen Li), but he was playing supporting roles so they can't count as his representative works. Despite the fact that he gained fans, his company didn't promote him well afterwards. So he gets forgotten quickly. But I hope his career goes uphill from now on and hope he gets better scripts with reliable production teams.

That’s prob bc in the novel, XHY technically disappeared for 8 years. But the drama tends to toned down things a lot esp. when it comes to the main leads. The script writer didn’t do a good job rounding things in a logical way.

ML has been respecting FL since the beginning. He understands her wishes and her boundaries. He lets her be who she wants to be without trying to control her or pry into her secrets. Unlike Prince Xin who never asks her what she wanted and just keep being obsessed despite her clearly telling him to stop. Also Stay polite please! No need to curse other netizens for a fictional character.

With the amount of promos second leads did, if they don’t trend then money isn’t well spent.

That was beautifully written. Xiao Hua Yong is a complex character and his relationship with SXH is very impactful on his motivations and will of living.

It was never marketed as a Wuxia drama as far as I know. It’s idol period drama with a focus on romance and court politics. The leads’ relationship is leaning more on the slow burn, push and pull side. Not the typically fast-paced, exciting, light-hearted type of romance due to character set up.

The leads also have good chemistry, they just vibe differently. The FL’s set up is cold and ruthless, doesn’t care about love other than her own success. A total career oriented type of woman. But eventually warms up to Xiao Hua Yong who moved her heart. It’s a slow burn process in the novel too. Doesn’t mean she has no feelings for him. She starts to show concern and care for him in the new episodes. In the lead’s relationship, we can see the beauty of persistence and upmost dedication, balancing with mutual respect and understanding between the partners. It’s because of the ML’s unwavering love and support that FL starts to change her attitude. It touches way deeper themes, far more than just light-hearted romance. For those who skip the rest of the drama and just watch the second couple clips, they’re surely missing out on this subtle and beautiful relationship.

Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean others can’t enjoy it. It’s adapted from an existent novel. Its normal that the core plot has similarities to other shows. But interesting characters, performances and good visuals among other factors can still attract viewers. If it’s not your cup of tea, feel free to move on.

I saw from a comment that this is his first important role after he came back to industry from hiatus. Prince Xin in the novel isn’t that much of a creep as in the drama tbh. He was just obsessed but not to a toxic level. The script writer changed his character set up a lot to give him more screentime. Some novel fans weren’t happy about that.
