What a wonderful idea ! I love the concept, it's both insightful and fun. Your writing was also really nice.
Just like you, I hope this concept becomes a series of sorts. I think two dramas were filmed in France (my country) : Shopping King Louis and Package. I've seen neither tho, maybe time to catch up on that haha
I think I never really suffered from SLS, mostly because I don't watch a lot of romcoms. And again, it's not that I was parcitularly rooting for the ML when he fell into the jerk lead trope, but even though I was always annoyed at the Nice Guy behaviour from SL. Pasta comes to mind for that example. And the worst of it all in terms of entitled SL was Live Up To Your Name. What I love about this drama is how much respect the two main characters share from one another and that's the stem of their love. They don't see eye to eye at first (as always in dramas) but they still respect one another and it was one of the rare pair I actively rooted for in a romance. But the SL in this one ? The contrast was blaring. Some entitled brat he was just because he knew the FL for longer.
Anyway, congratulations for your article, it was well-written and brought up a much needed discussion !
Oh what a nice article giving a voice to some discussions I've had or seen ever since the show aired. You managed to write very-well without major spoilers given. It's concise and straight to the point : I hope you'll write more articles in the future ! I might have liked a tiny bit more explanation on the disorders since I'm not familiar with them myself but overall I understood your point clearly.
Sigma was a good vilain. I guess some people found him too extra for their taste but I really liked him and above all I loved Kim Byung Chul, he was perfect for the role. Sigma's backstory really gave him more flesh and makes us wonder. While I do not excuse nor condone his actions, he still is a man who was failed by his family, his peers and society.
Hi! Thanks. How are you ? Comment va la vie ? ^^I watch some others SF dramas. I missed somes.Currently on "Circle",…
I'm doing good thanks ! J'ai vu passer ton article sur twitter par des utilisateurs qui l'ont apprécié d'ailleurs, ça fait plaisir ^^ ! I've watched Life in the meantime and a couple of movies. Currently still on Reply 1988 and What's Up but I'm planning on diving into Dark Hole and God's Gift soon
Congratulations on the first article, glad to finally see the published result ;) ! It really seems to me that sci-fi is becoming a genre that is explored more and more in the drama industry (and not just in Korea from what I heard from a couple friends). And I think despite the fact Sisyphus didn't have high ratings in SK, it has opened the door for more sci-fi ! Can't wait to see what the future brings us.
Thank you for commenting ! I was confused too at first and a bit disappointed because I had expected something…
Han Tae Sul killing himself did not exactly confuse me as I was kind of expecting it. It was the only solution after all and it was a nice closure to Tae Sul's arc : he who always made the "selfish" choice (going after Tae San without caring for the world's future at first, choosing Seo Hae over and over) finally makes the selfless choice. It's sad and tragic but it does make sense from a character narrative point of view. It's mainly the plane and Sigma scenes that left me confused.
In my mind, after Seo Hae disappears, I was thinking we would see more of Tae San, maybe fast forward a couple months later or something like this. I felt robbed of Tae San's story which actually began the whole thing.
But as I thought about it calmly and not running high on adrenaline from the finale, the possible theories are nice so I have better feelings as regard the ending.
I was shocked that they didn’t even got 1 nomination even after getting around 10% rating...
Same, I was really hoping SF2 would get at least one nomination. I suppose it's because it's a season 2, though Penthouse 2 got a nom. That's a shame but there's nothing we can do about it :(
I loved the drama!! At first I watched it because of Park Shin Hye but as the drama went on, I loved the plot!…
Thank you for commenting ! I was confused too at first and a bit disappointed because I had expected something (not per se how the loop is broken but we'd see after it's broken if you get what I mean) but with a week passed I've warmed up to the end and the different theories fans have come up with.
Everybody complaining about the ending, should have read the warning in the corner on netflix (in the UK at least)…
I think it first appeared when Seo Jin's father killed himself so I thought it was mainly for him. But even then, it was pretty clear from the beginning this was probably the only possible ending so that came to no surprise. Thanks for commenting !
True, I should have added a line about the plot being interesting because the plot also drew me in. I'm glad you…
Stranger is so good! Such a treat and a great CSW's project. I'm currently watching Life but I'm only at the beginning so I don't have a fully fleshed-out opinion but it's mostly positive so far. Especially on his acting.
I'm watching more of his films at the moment. The Classic (2003) and Tazza: The High Rollers (2006) are treats, they're rather iconic in Korea I believe. I've also liked The Sword With No Name (2009) although it's a completely different genre and more of a popcorn type of movie.
Next on my list are Marathon (which brought him a lot of fame and awards) and Perfect Game.
I was so optimistic for this series but after watching few episodes I waited till it got finished and then fast…
Ah I get you. Going into shows and films for the sake of a specific actor/actress, I've done that too. Cho Seung Woo brought me in but I enjoyed the rest of the drama. Hope you'll find a drama that you will enjoy a lot next :) !
Aw thank you for commenting such a detailed comment ! And thank you for the characters graphic !I agree about…
It's alright don't worry !
Yeah poor guys at the Control Bureau. But they did look cool haha.
As regard Kim Byung Chul I first saw him in Mr Sunshine and his character is such the complete opposite of Sigma. He plays a supporting role in it. If you love period piece with good music, slowburn romance and with a lot of historical background you might like this one ! I've heard he's done really well in Sky Castle and Pegasus Market but I haven't seen them yet. I'm trying to find The Backstreet Noir too, in which he plays a thug, it looks interesting but indie movies are so hard to find online :(.
Same I was really so neutral about Sun's end while everyone wanted him to be with Seo Hae and just wanted him to survive. I did not get it but to each their own anyway.
Same, everything began with Tae San at first and I really wanted to know more about him and have more answers when it comes to him. And especially what happens to him once he wakes up. I really thought he was going to be more important in the story. I mean, he does, in a way, through Tae Sul but you know what I mean.
As for Tae Sul I really loved his character. I think his romantic side really enhanced his character and his story and offered great contrasts (that Cho Seung Woo portrayed masterfully <3)
I agree with basically everything you said, except that I think PSH's emotional scenes were okay in this drama,…
I do think science-fiction is a genre that is getting more explored in korean media (dramas and films) and it's very exciting. I feel that it's a genre that was not very well-loved until now but that productions are making efforts to offer better stories and give more efforts into science-fiction as a genre. User W two worlds Season 2 is the expert though so I'm pretty sure he will be able to tell you more about it. But that's the impression I'm having.
Haha, I didn't comment on the thread at first because I had a misconception that it was about a month old. Anyways,…
Aw thank you for commenting such a detailed comment ! And thank you for the characters graphic ! I agree about the selflessness vs selfishness view, it really comes down to that, which is why it still makes the end (Tae Sul's suicide) all the more tragic even though we knew it had to come to this. Because Tae Sul, after having chosen the selfish choice several times before finally takes the selfless and self-sacrificnig choice to save everyone.
The Control Bureau isn't just there for the two lead to fall in love though. It also served as referencing every actions that were made to give to the future Sigma every time the loop began again and try to have everything go according to plan each time. It was funny though but at the same I appreciate the attempt of tying the "loose ends" of the beginning (why all the gunmen missed Seo Hae and Sun for example).
Sigma was such a good villain ! He was chilling and completely deranged and Kim Byung Chul brought him to life beautifully, just the same as the kid actor did with the younger version of Sigma.
As for Sun, the article was written quite some time ago and it's just the editing process that took longer so it's not really up to date with my opinion on him. But basically, the more they went with a jealous whiny Sun, the more I was annoyed with him and his character. There was good potential with his genuine help at the beginning though and tbh I didn't feel anything at his "death". Not to mention that was rendered null and void the very next episode haha.
The ending, especially the last 5mn basically (so plane scene + Sigma scene) got me confused and perplexed and a bit disappointed at first. But rewatching the episode and reading about everyone's thoughts and theories, I do think it does work even though I had imagined the last few minutes to play out differently (for example Tae San ????? Hello ???).
Anyway, despite that, I still enjoyed the drama thoroughly and I might revisit it in the future once I've settled better with the end, etc.
Your introduction was exactly how I felt awaiting for this drama. But after watching it, my opinion is a little…
Thank you so much for your kind words, it's very motivating to write more ! I think the drama took us all by surprise with where it went. I had never seen Park Shin Hye in a drama before so I didn't have much of a comparison so I liked her performance. I'd like to see her again in an action project though, I think she has great potential.
Just like you, I hope this concept becomes a series of sorts. I think two dramas were filmed in France (my country) : Shopping King Louis and Package. I've seen neither tho, maybe time to catch up on that haha

I would have loved to know more about Tae San as well, I think this could have given an interesting side to the story.
As for Stranger I'll send you a private message so as to not derail the topic here too much ^^
