The characters are not the cause of the story and of that what's going on the scenes. Things happen to them. So the pace is super slow. Faster story goes even in weekend dramas. I think it's consequence of this kind of concept that the whole story is more important than characters .

The writers and directors in Korea think that FL character must be soft, probably they think that wievers don't like super hero women (and maybe it's true) so KTEM turn KGE into soft version. I feel that it's her interpretation to cry and cry. I agree, watching her crying hurts.

It's true. I see this as a pretentious script. Like someone was affraid if the drama would be too simple, too ordinary. I am always unpleasantly surprise when the writer introduce the new character...
Well, it's not exactly as you are saying. This drama has the ambition to say something universal about the duties…
We can see that the script doesn't pay much attention to the characters, they are pawns on the chessboard rather, and the writer plays them. So actors fit into the script.

Kim Go Eun and Woo Do Hwan (I think the only them or I forgot about someone) had a kind of challenge so they portrayed two different personalities, we can see their skills, not so bad. Lee Min Ho has a much more simple task, because he plays the only one king. However not so deep.

The plot is intentionally complicated, the script is sometimes too much pretentious, stars usually can play, the pace is rather slow... yes, I can say it's average drama.

Yes, of course, everyone likes various thing and various drama (I like thrillers :), but there are two different things, one is that someone likes it or not, but the other is the execution, editing, logic if they are good or bad. I think it's understandable that viewers try not only say "I like it" but also evaluate it. KTEM is intriguing: has lots of money, celebrity writer, fine concept, stars in the cast... so I wonder what's wrong with this super drama?
I don't know what is the poin to argue about whether the drama is good or bad at all? It depends on spectator…
Well, it's not exactly as you are saying. This drama has the ambition to say something universal about the duties of government, the people who lead the nation and country, for example the king. Also, the important thing is justice which is strong elaborated in drama. Yes, the fantasy concept makes it unrealistic and not intense, but still, there are some general ideas the writer wants to present. The biggest discussion is about the construction of the plot and this is also very objective theme.
It's nice, relaxing and easy to watch drama. The cast has skills. I enjoy the kimbap Oskar lady Lee Jung Eun and the older sister Oh Yoon Ah. Kids are adorable :)
I really have to say this, the idea of four siblings who failed in marriage and they are divorced now wasn't very captivating at first, but the drama is very well played and some characters are sweet, others are funny, all of them are lovable.
Usually drama starts strong and later became weaker and dragged, but this one is getting better and better! I think in the end it must be a hit :) All of the characters have great chemistry, kids, divorce husband and wife, romantic lovers, and even the stuntmen.
Agree, writer ruin her character. She becomes cry baby all of a sudden, always teary-eyed or bawling whenever…
I agree, her character is annoyingly inconsistent, especially since we meet her in the first scenes when she's chasing the villains and we hope that we will still watch her at the detective's work.
Does it deserve the rating: hard to tell, the rating here generally indicates popularity rather than quality.…
If someone sees in this drama not only the kaleidoscope of characters but the whole story, in which everyone plays a significant role, then there will be no wasted or neglected characters. Every protagonist is equal in bringing justice in the two worlds: the king, the detective squad, the adjutant... etc. I think the writer this time creates something different from a story about deep elaborated characters who have strong stories. But rather an interesting plot about duties of people in power, (kings and politicians), that does not demand multidimensional heroes and heroines.
There are long theories comments that, i think, should have been marked as spoiler and for someone who havent…
It's well made drama. You can enjoy beautiful cinematography and ost, interesting motive of paralell universe, the sophisticated touch of humor. And also if you look for something inteligent you can find it here, because the writer included the idea of justice in the world(s), virtue of the king and every government, and asks very smart question: if all people serve the king, who the king serves? But if you are looking for sweet romace - eh, maybe you find it somewhere else:) And yes, the white horse. You must watch him.

Kim Gap Soo was AMAZING in "Chief of Staff"!
Thanx for the article!
