I thought so, too. I watched this variety show (forgot the name) with Bai Lu and Zhao Lu Si as guests also and he strikes me as a very serious guy. So when I saw the BTS of IS, I'm surprised to see he's quite goofy 😁

On Yan Dan's side, it is, more of a maternal, a friend. But I don't think Yu Mo feels that way. He did say at one point, he won't let his feelings burden her. He even said "I hope so" in Ep 20 when Zhi Lin asked him if it was a marriage proposal.
Yu Mo and Yan Dan really do keep on missing each other. I think that fully describes the dynamic of his relationship with Yan Dan. He's always gonna be chasing her and always gonna pass by her. He won't meet her merely by fate but by pure chance.
And that is the stark difference between Yan Dan and Tang Zhou/YY. They will only meet, not by chance, but by fate. The moment Ying Yuan turned her into a spirit in the mortal realm and cut all their ties, he also unwittingly tied it again, because her being a spirit will eventually lead him to her, as a demon hunter.
Hmm.. maybe his styling as Ying Yuan makes him seem thin, to me. But as Tang Zhou, it's not...haha.
