In a similar fashion, he and XY spent so much time together, he taught her archery to protect herself, showed her the vast oceans, had heart-to-heart conversations, etc. If he dies and XY finds out that she truly is important to him, it would be world-shattering for her. And that's not what XL wanted. He doesn't wanna burden her with it and just wants her to be simply happy coz he understands what death means to people left behind. So if it meant doing all those things without her knowledge, he would. That's his act of love.
