Episode 6. WTF. I don't know if I want to continue watching anymore..
First of all, I don't understand the deep bond between the ML / FL. Yes they interacted when they were kids.. but the show is yet to establish why their connection was so special. They didn't build on that bond well enough. They were so young.. most ppl can barely remember their memories from that period vividly.
Second, they are just meeting. Not like they were caught making out or something.. how are the FL's parents ok with the ML's mother slandering their daughter? I am surprised they didn't say anything in defense of their daughter.
Thirdly, shows like to sugercoat romantic relationships. But seriously in real life, such relationships where there is so much opposition from either side of the family barely last. The ML's parents can't even tolerate a friendship.. are they really going to be ok with them dating eventually? The ML just retreated and left for the Olympiad, abandoning her.. I won't be surprised if he leaves her again.
Fourthly kids hanging out at the aquarium after school. What has that got to do with school authorities? Firstly, they hung out outside school which is outside the school's purview, secondly, they were at a public space, thirdly, there was barely any PDA.
All the characters in this drama are so blandly written. They don't feel like real people at all. Not that I am looking for realism in every drama / movie.. but at the least, I should be able to connect with the characters even if their circumstances / feelings are very different from mine.
I wonder what could be worse than Hsiao Tung's rape that would completely push the ML over the edge. He didn't…
Ahh that's a very plausible theory. I didn't think of that! No wonder she visited him in prison and was pissed as to why he agreed for the interview. She was definitely involved. Why do you think older Hsiao Tung (or the blind girl character) was choking the ML in the preview?
There was a comment I saw on Douban that put it really well: it feels like the director threw together a bunch…
I finally finished part 1 and I have to say that part of my earlier comment doesn't seem to hold true anymore based on the ending scene and preview which was quite the game changer. Part 2 actually looks dark, thrilling and I think some plot twists might be in store for us I hope.
THANK YOU for that ending scene and part 2 preview. It changed the game. The acting and chemistry was top notch…
I wonder what could be worse than Hsiao Tung's rape that would completely push the ML over the edge. He didn't look as chilling in the last episode as he did in the first. Curious what more they have in store. It better be compelling.
Part 1 began with 2014 when he was arrested. He came out in 2007 I think.. so there's 7 more years to go..
The blind girl might be Hsiao Tung or is that just to confuse us?! There was a brief moment in the preview when Alice looked like Moon Lee. Great casting choice. I wonder how she went blind if she is Hsiao Tung. Also it appered like she was trying to kill / choke Jen Yao.. wonder what changed.. I am assuming she didn't know he was in prison and assumed he ditched her? Was she fed some lies about him? Also there was a brief moment when Moon Lee was acting mad.. was she possessed or did she go insane?
I feel like Ouyang is still alive..
Curious where they're gonna go with the ghost angle for Pin Yu because that would be another game changer.
Also the guy making the documentary has some backstory of his own- curious how they're gonna tie that in.
And yes, the FL's best friend - looking forward to see what turned her so dark in Part 2. She wasn't around when Hsiao Tung was raped so I wonder if she would be misled with a false narrative or will there be more shit that will happen causing her to become so dark.. I hope she's not gonna act that way out of jealousy.
And also there were some new characters in part 2 preview.
THANK YOU for that ending scene and part 2 preview. It changed the game.
The acting and chemistry was top notch in sucking me into the leads' love story and journey. However, they creative team did this drama a disservice by (1) marketing it as a thriller when it was a romantic melodrama in part 1, and (2) revealing such a huge chunk of the backstory which has killed a fair bit of the intrigue / suspense around the ML's character and the motivation behind his murders. Thankfully some major questions raised in the pilot and finale (strongest 2 episodes of the drama) have been left unanswered, leaving me with excitement for the 2nd part.
Having said that, its probably too early for me to rate or define this drama as good / bad purely on the basis of part 1 because the preview for part 2 looks really dark and intense, which is quite the contrast to what part 1 was. The real challenge is how the writer intends to take the story forward in part 2 now that most of the cards have been revealed. Looking forward to part 2. Looks like some plot twists are in store.

8 episodes in, I kinda agree. This was marketed as a dark thriller but the actual drama is more melodramatic, and romantic. I don't think the backstory is the problem even though it is trope-y. I think the screenplay and editing is what let me down. Rather than revealing most of the backstory in part 1, juxtaposing the past / present in a non-linear fashion would have given this a more thrilling / edgier vibe and made it so much more compelling. It would also have made the ML's character more intriguing (like the first episode where he was a mix of chilling and pitiful). Having said that I don't dislike this and I hope the 2nd part will tie it all in better though I can see why some people would think its pointless since most of the backstory has been revealed. I am also curious about the turn the 2nd part will take because it can't just be about him going on a killing spree now that we know his motivation (I hope).
ML has such a tough life i hate his mom so much more than the dad
WORD. The mum failed her son. She should have supported him and helped him instead of throwing him away like that. That, too, for the man who abused her and her son.
The ending of Episode 6. SHITTTTT.EPISODE 8. GIRLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.I hate that I know where this is going…
Looks like Pin Yu is really being possessed.. I was hoping she was actually Hsiao Tung who had forgotten the past..
Also I wish the past/present were better edited in a non-linear way to make the story more intriguing and mysterious. That would have really done the drama wonders.
E7. The documentary maker is such a scum. Exploiting people's emotions for his own profit. He is aking to be killed. HAHA
Cliched, but heartfelt story of two teenagers falling in love while one grapples illness, and the other pretends to. Unlike some of the bad ones I've seen recently from this genre, this one focused on building a connection between our two leads (who had lovely chemistry) rather than emphasizing the illness. Give it a try if you're looking for something light yet heartwarming :)

So many questions.
