There was a comment I saw on Douban that put it really well: it feels like the director threw together a bunch…
8 episodes in, I kinda agree. This was marketed as a dark thriller but the actual drama is more melodramatic, and romantic. I don't think the backstory is the problem even though it is trope-y. I think the screenplay and editing is what let me down. Rather than revealing most of the backstory in part 1, juxtaposing the past / present in a non-linear fashion would have given this a more thrilling / edgier vibe and made it so much more compelling. It would also have made the ML's character more intriguing (like the first episode where he was a mix of chilling and pitiful). Having said that I don't dislike this and I hope the 2nd part will tie it all in better though I can see why some people would think its pointless since most of the backstory has been revealed. I am also curious about the turn the 2nd part will take because it can't just be about him going on a killing spree now that we know his motivation (I hope).
ML has such a tough life i hate his mom so much more than the dad
WORD. The mum failed her son. She should have supported him and helped him instead of throwing him away like that. That, too, for the man who abused her and her son.
The ending of Episode 6. SHITTTTT.EPISODE 8. GIRLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.I hate that I know where this is going…
Looks like Pin Yu is really being possessed.. I was hoping she was actually Hsiao Tung who had forgotten the past..
Also I wish the past/present were better edited in a non-linear way to make the story more intriguing and mysterious. That would have really done the drama wonders.
E7. The documentary maker is such a scum. Exploiting people's emotions for his own profit. He is aking to be killed. HAHA
Cliched, but heartfelt story of two teenagers falling in love while one grapples illness, and the other pretends to. Unlike some of the bad ones I've seen recently from this genre, this one focused on building a connection between our two leads (who had lovely chemistry) rather than emphasizing the illness. Give it a try if you're looking for something light yet heartwarming :)
I just finished the first episode, and I think this has the potential to be more than 10 episodes if they flesh out the story and characters well. Also the first episode was fantastic.
The pilot had me hooked instantly. I'm so intrigued and invested. This has the potential to be so dark and fantastic.. Tseng Ching Hua looked chilling in some of the scenes. Looking forward to binging the rest of the episodes.
It's not the cliches that bothered me (i mean every romcom has it), rather it was how superficial and bland it was. I couldn't care less for either of the MLs or the FL for that matter. Luckily I was doing household chores while watching this so it wasn't exactly a waste of my time otherwise I would have punched the shit out of my pillow for spending my precious time this way.
This drama broke me because I saw myself in Le Le. Her love and devotion for her father to the point that there is no room for other relationships in her life, her loneliness, her traumas, her father's growing illness, her pain, her humour, her resilience - I have lived through all that. No matter how hard we try to be positive and do our best, life has its way of tiring us and making us feel lonely.
I can't even bring myself to write an objective review on this because this wasn't just a drama. This was personal. Beautifully written, directed, acted, and scored all around, with Hsieh Ying Xuan giving a performance of a lifetime as Le Le. I do wish other characters were fleshed out better but I guess this was meant to be Le Le's journey through and through.
Highly recommend this for people looking to watch something of substance that doesn't sugarcoat or romanticise life. This is as real as it gets.

Check out the latest drama she wrote and directed 'Forget You Not' - it's fantastic.
