I know how you feel. Takahashi Issei seriously wins me with each drama/movie of his. Objectively, I don't see…
No I haven't seen it. I am still catching up on his movies. I have seen most of his dramas only. Thank you for the recommendation, I will check it out:)
BTW Princess Maison is not a romance. It's a heartwarming story of the FL looking for a house & Takahashi plays the agent. It's a story of friendship :)
I just started this & OMG the screenwriter wrote some seriously iconic & hilarious dramas which I loved!!! Ikebukuro West Gate Park Kisarazu Cat's Eye Ryusei no Kizuna Gomenne Seishun!

Oh really? I loved Wife of A Spy.
I hated him so much in the first episode of Nagi's Long Vacation & then as it progressed I felt bad for him & grew to love him. Can you believe it after all he did, I loved him?! As much as I supported Nagi's decision in the end, my heart broke for him so much. Seriously there's no character that he's played which I didn't grow to like (despite playing quite a few bad guy roles)
WORD. He really does nail the heavy scenes. That scene in the finale when Mochizuki gets him to admit the truth.. damn that was fantastically acted!! Ayase Haruka complemented him well in that one.
I wanna see him in a romcom so bad. I think he'd be perfect esp if he plays an awkward dorky guy like his character in Princess Maison.
every time. every time I go into a Takahashi Issei drama, I'm like, maybe this one would finally make me think…
I know how you feel. Takahashi Issei seriously wins me with each drama/movie of his. Objectively, I don't see him as handsome but damn each time he is in a role, I can't help but find him really charming & attractive. Doesn't help that he has incredible screen presence & just so much of talent. Have you seen Wife of A Spy? I watched it recently & damn his charm is on a different level there. He is so swoony in that movie.
Can someone enlighten me about the very end.like she jumps and them what ..plz thanks
That wasn't the end. After that she's on a wheelchair with Hiro tending to her. Did you miss that? They didn't make it clear what really happened to her. But given how she was just seated so silently & not even moving, I thought that her mental capacity was affected because she looked very numb. But I could be wrong as well.. maybe it's just her legs or maybe nothing even happened. I think having her mental capacity affected makes sense because she tended to Hiro like a mother even at times with the way she took care of him, & drained him of his drug addiction. So it's like his turn to do that now. Also fits in with the title of 'to the end of the world' because she's lifeless while he is fully alive.
This was easily hitting a 9 or 9.5 for me up till episode 6 but then dropped to 7.5 for me. The second half was mediocre. It did not bring in the intensity that was promised in E5.
The finale (while I like that it didn't go where I thought) was disappointing.. things were resolved a little too easily. I love that Shuto died, but the way it was brought about was.. how do i put it? We were promised bombs, but turns it was just a mere firecracker. Fell flat really. And how did Hibiki survive all that? It was a stab wound & a gun shot wound. But I liked the ending with them holding hands, given how we were always seeing flashbacks of them at the end, & now it's a reality. That was a nice touch. Too bad I came to care little about their relationship.
A lot of interesting character arcs were left unexplored. They failed to make use of Shuto's crazy genius arc. Even more sad because he is such a fantastic actor. Kurumi as a character was written poorly. Ayami is actually a decent actress (whatever dramas I have seen of her) but she had little to do in this. It's a combination of mediocre acting & writing. I wanted more intensity in the dynamics between Kurumi & Hibiki but they were more interested in the melodrama & love between the two. The other characters in the group were not very interesting either. I don't understand why Shoko, the little girl & that man (who always criticises) were kept alive instead of the police officer in the beginning & Min Jun. They were only there a few episodes but they made far more of an impact. And no Min Jun's impact wasn't just felt because of his death. Min Jun's noona was interesting in the first half (she had the makings of a good underwing) so I was looking forward to how she turned post her brother's death. But she was just confined to a cell & had nothing to do. Sigh.
In the end, I just found this show somewhat melodramatic (thanks again to the mediocre second half) & the over-emphasis of Kurumi & Hibiki's everlasting love which in the end, felt flat when they met. Here, more than the acting, it's the script that really failed them.
I don't know how to even say this but when this started, the world of the show looked huge & limitless (like Alice in Borderland) but towards the end, it just appeared like they were all shooting in different corners of one space.
Will still check out S2 because I do want to know what the next season will bring to the table. Hopefully, it will be better?
These Japanese dramas based on classic literature are really great, huh? I need to watch this!
YES! There are few others & they were great too! But I found this one the best (purely thanks to the direction & music) which really took this to another level.
E11. Fukumaru's struggle & his eyes filled with tears made me emotional. Kamiki's voice was just so PERFECT in conveying those emotions. I cried when Kanda hugged him.
Lol just saw your message..busy with school so no drama this week lol..I watched long ago but it was depressing…
I actually wrote to you to ask if the rapist teacher gets sentenced but I binged the drama before I got your reply so I deleted the comment. Even though he didn't get sentenced, I like what the characters did whatever little they had. No use picking a fight where you can't win (given the school's stance to just dismiss things, & Mum who didn't really care about her, teachers also were useless given they did nothing about the tape) so Nao was smart to not give him two shits about him (though of course it would be ideal if he got sentenced)

Ikebukuro West Gate Park
Kisarazu Cat's Eye
Ryusei no Kizuna
Gomenne Seishun!
Any more of his works that I should check out?
