This was easily hitting a 9 or 9.5 for me up till episode 6 but then dropped to 7.5 for me. The second half was mediocre. It did not bring in the intensity that was promised in E5.
The finale (while I like that it didn't go where I thought) was disappointing.. things were resolved a little too easily. I love that Shuto died, but the way it was brought about was.. how do i put it? We were promised bombs, but turns it was just a mere firecracker. Fell flat really. And how did Hibiki survive all that? It was a stab wound & a gun shot wound. But I liked the ending with them holding hands, given how we were always seeing flashbacks of them at the end, & now it's a reality. That was a nice touch. Too bad I came to care little about their relationship.
A lot of interesting character arcs were left unexplored. They failed to make use of Shuto's crazy genius arc. Even more sad because he is such a fantastic actor. Kurumi as a character was written poorly. Ayami is actually a decent actress (whatever dramas I have seen of her) but she had little to do in this. It's a combination of mediocre acting & writing. I wanted more intensity in the dynamics between Kurumi & Hibiki but they were more interested in the melodrama & love between the two. The other characters in the group were not very interesting either. I don't understand why Shoko, the little girl & that man (who always criticises) were kept alive instead of the police officer in the beginning & Min Jun. They were only there a few episodes but they made far more of an impact. And no Min Jun's impact wasn't just felt because of his death. Min Jun's noona was interesting in the first half (she had the makings of a good underwing) so I was looking forward to how she turned post her brother's death. But she was just confined to a cell & had nothing to do. Sigh.
In the end, I just found this show somewhat melodramatic (thanks again to the mediocre second half) & the over-emphasis of Kurumi & Hibiki's everlasting love which in the end, felt flat when they met. Here, more than the acting, it's the script that really failed them.
I don't know how to even say this but when this started, the world of the show looked huge & limitless (like Alice in Borderland) but towards the end, it just appeared like they were all shooting in different corners of one space.
Will still check out S2 because I do want to know what the next season will bring to the table. Hopefully, it will be better?

YES! There are few others & they were great too! But I found this one the best (purely thanks to the direction & music) which really took this to another level.
E11. Fukumaru's struggle & his eyes filled with tears made me emotional. Kamiki's voice was just so PERFECT in conveying those emotions. I cried when Kanda hugged him.

Even though he didn't get sentenced, I like what the characters did whatever little they had. No use picking a fight where you can't win (given the school's stance to just dismiss things, & Mum who didn't really care about her, teachers also were useless given they did nothing about the tape) so Nao was smart to not give him two shits about him (though of course it would be ideal if he got sentenced)

I agree. This show is a mixed bag so far. While I like the development that has happened with Mokomi's character, everything else seems to have fallen flat. All the family members revealed a lot of things & after that, it's just gone quiet? Shinuske stayed out for a week & then just came back? What was the point of the whole revelation then? Mum apologized to Mokomi but she's back to her older ways? Dad also had an outburst & he's back to catering to Mum. Grandpa, as usual, is basking in his glory as though he didn't do anything & he is well above everybody. And there are just 2 episodes left.. I don't know where this is going. Too much focus on her gift which itself is not clear & less on the family dynamics. I can't seem to reconcile the fact that this is the same writer who wrote Osozaki no Himawari, Bokura wa Kiseki de Dekite Iru & Shitteru Waifu. Those shows are so contemplative & rich in terms of character dynamics & interactions.

I looked up the internet & there is this term called “anthropomorphizing" where people give human characteristics to non-humans. They do this because they crave social contact & yearn for connections. So it makes me wonder if Mokomi suddenly doesn't see life in the objects anymore because she is now slowly starting to speak her mind with the people around her & thus doesn't need the objects anymore.
A1 drama. DARK, RAW and UNCOMFORTABLE, as expected from my favourite screenwriter Nojima Shinji. This is a drama for an open minded & mature audience. Don't watch if you're triggered by any of these themes - rape, violence, incest, nudity, homosexuality. This drama doesn't sugercoat things & the resolutions may not be what you're looking for but you got to watch it for what it is, & the time it was set in. The leads' relationship was organic & believable. Easily one of the best student/teacher themed romance dramas I have seen (it was more than just romance TBH) Special mention for the ending that was hauntingly beautiful.
