Was I the only one who hasn't cried, at all, ep 9? It looks like everyone in here shed tears. I don't cry easily
Haha I don't cry easily but I've been crying a lot lately thanks to all the fantastic J dramas this season. E9 was pretty emotional for me (the 1st time this drama made me cry lol)
For something funny / fun - Yankee Kun to Megane Chan, My Boss My Hero, Ouran High School Host Club, Nobuta Wo…
Wow there's a lot. I felt the show lost its charm after the first 4 episodes. The leads relationship wasn't well developed (esp for him to propose) & was constantly bogged down by misunderstandings or break up in E9 that didn't make sense. Nami as a character never really took responsibility for her actions & constantly needed saving. Nanao's character as Reiko had a lot of potential. Esp in the final arc, it was really a let down. I wanted more on Nami/Reiko's relationship. Talented actors like Shotaro (Nakazawa), Kubota Sayu (Izumi), Nanao (Reiko) were totally under-utilised. The ending was lackluster as well.
I think most of us watching this were pretty disappointed because this had Devil Wears Prada vibes in the 1st few episodes & end up, it was nothing like that. Also Japan is a champion of workplace dramas, so this was a huge let down. It doesn't help that this entire season of J dramas were so fantastic that I was blown away by so many of them & this paled in comparison (writing wise)
When Hidaka said that both of them didn't need to go to hell together & Mochizuki said she will save him OH MAN…
Someone came up with this theory that Hidaka may be bluffing because in E1 he appeared to be gloating about the crime. Don't know how true that is, but it got me thinking that it may be a twist. Afterall, all this while he has appeared fishy but suddenly there's a spin & we think he's nice.. and with this show, you never know what to think.

IKR it beat all the sappy romantic confessions we're used to seeing. At least for me. That moment was when I was like DAMMNNNNN these two need to be together. Like before E9 I wasn't even shipping them together, but damn this episode changed everything. I feel like we're not going to get a happy ending & I am prepared to be heartbroken :(
I wish young Ha Ni would just listen to older Ha Ni for once & do as she says. Her ignorance really irritates…
Haha well that's one way to put it. But I disagree.
Just because that's what her character design is, it doesn't mean that she is not supposed to grow. Any drama/movie you watch, ultimately you want the characters to grow. She's been stuck at one point since the beginning. And we're already at E10. It feels like little has happened with her character. Not only that, even if a character is obnoxious, that's not all there is to them. Humans are often layered. Her character is very one note & that is off-putting.
RE: the actress - personally I don't think the actress is playing her character well. It is not that she puts me off (as the character should be), I feel this strong urge to fast-forward her scenes (meaning I don't want to see her). I have seen many dramas with spoilt characters, and while they've put me off at some point, the portrayal has always been layered in that regardless, I want to root for them and want to watch them more. It's quite different here. I'm not rooting for young Ha Ni & neither do I enjoy watching her. And that has a lot to do with the actress as well. Another actress might have brought more to the table.
Suzuka Ouji as Miyamura is one of the worst casting choices, the live action series is so much worse than the…
I haven't read/watched the anime & manga so I can't comment on that. But I like what he is doing in the drama. His acting as Miyamura is perfect & I like his chemistry with the FL.

I get your point. And I can totally see the charm & the chemistry. I just wish the leads got a little more screen time together. Other than that, I do think its a very good drama on the subject matter :)

Actually I didn't mind the subject matter for Chugakusei Nikki. I didn't enjoy it that much because I didn't feel the connection between the leads. They barely had scenes together & I couldn't understand why they couldn't move on from each other. The other aspects of the drama from characterisation to the impact/consequences of their actions were well done.
Agreed. Slice of life really hit different and when Japan does it, it hits on another level altogether. They are undoubtedly the champion of the slice of life genre.

I love 35sai No Shoujo! What fantastic acting by the FL and her mother. Blew me away. I didn't enjoy Chugakussei Nikki that much. Will check out the rest, thank you :)
BTW if you like slice of life, these are a MUST watch- Nagi's Long Vacation Osozaki no Himawari Nijiro Karute Bread and Soup and Cat Weather Takane No Hana Saka no Tochu no Ie Kokoro no Kizu wo Iyasu to Iu Koto

Takane No Hana (the one with Ishihara Satomi). Great drama dealing with some complex issues.
I think you saw Takane to Hana. That was a subpar drama.
Perfect World and Kimi Wa Petto were strictly decent for me. Though I must say that Perfect World did a great job presenting the message of creating an inclusive society for everyone (esp people with disabilities)
I am sorry but I just have to say this. I find your comment ignorant and rude.
She is fine the way she is. I hope you realise that not everybody on this planet has a skinny body. Also, her body weight does not define her. Let her be! If you are against LGBT, that is your opinion & I won't even try to change that. BUT don't stop other people from being who they are.
How many J dramas have you seen to form the opinion that they're all bad actors? Probably you're watching the wrong dramas because each J drama I have seen introduces a fantastic actor to me to the point that my watchlist is now 95% filled with J dramas. I am more than happy to recommend J dramas to you.
