E3. Best episode so far! And yes, I can officially say that I'm in love with this & the FL so so much. Despite the cliched tropes, the writing is refreshing.

It's cliche, but the writing brings everything up.
I couldn't agree more!

I definitely want to officially swoon over Takahashi Issei in a new romance drama, he deserves our heart eyes…
I KNOW RIGHHHHT. Somebody please give him a romantic role. He's always playing a psychopath. He's much more toned down in Tengoku to Jigoku (currently airing), but still.. I want him in a nice guy role LOL

Btw, please watch Tengoku to Jigoku! It is absolutely fantastic! Easily one of the best
from the mystery genre in a long time..

I thought that the FL looked like Kuroki Haru in the poster, and that's why I watched this. Takahashi Issei and Kuroki Haru had so much chemistry in Nagi's Long Vacation & I loved them together so much. But I must say that even watching the film, I felt the same way. The 2 actresses look so alike, and they're both brilliant.

It's time we see Takahashi Issei in a romantic drama. He was just so swoony in this, and the leads had so much chemistry together!!

agreed! would love to watch this

9.5/10Congratulations to Kiyoshi Kurosawa for winning Best Director for this film at the Venice Film Festival.…
It was interesting to watch the film from a traitor's perspective because usually I have seen films of this period focus on those who fought for the country not against it, though one can really debate whether he was a traitor or not. His intent was never to betray his homeland, rather was to fight for and secure his & his wife's future & freedom. He knew that Japan was going to loose the war, & that way he didn't do anything wrong. Not everyone from that period had their loyalties tied to their homeland, or to a particular movement (which is a misconception many have). Many just wanted to live their life the way they wanted, like most of us do today.

The FL's love for her husband, the way she supported him every step of the way, & the sacrifices & hardships she endured for him, like she was the perfect wife anyone would ask for. I am conflicted about the husband. On one hand, he left her to endure it all because of the freedom he was fighting for which made me uncomfortable, but on the other hand, his plan is what got them ultimate freedom in the end. He was trying to protect her in his own way when he did not disclose the things he learnt for the longest time. Japan lost the war, and they escaped to a better life. He knew that she would be captured & changed the film to protect her. But I wonder... was it all worth it? Was it fair to her? What about the hardship she had to suffer for the time without him? Who knows about what all she went through? I'm assuming they met in USA, going by the credits. But what if their plan failed? The kind of risks they took (particularly she took for him because she loved him so) was moving yet uncomfortable.

I think a lot of the discomfort also came from the fact that I have never led that kind of life or most of us born in the 80s/90s may empathize but will find it difficult to fully appreciate that what they were gambling for, was worth it. We can very well sit at home, and just operate out of our laptop & no one is stopping us from doing that. But back then, life was controlled & if you did anything that didn't appear to be the norm, you were watched & your life would be controlled & restricted. We didn't see any war or any kind of graphic scene of soldiers raping in this movie, but the danger and fear that I felt were palpable. The director did such a fantastic job at setting the mood & making you feel like you were at the edge of your seat the entire time.

Mad RESPECT for those who fought for their ideologies & beliefs at the cost of loosing their loved ones & their own life. They would also count as visionaries (along with freedom fighters) who enabled us to live & enjoy the freedom we have today.

The leads' acting & their chemistry together was absolutely PERFECT. They were just so believable in every way that I couldn't keep my eyes off them. I wanted more of their romance really because the chemistry was that great. Not a single dull moment in the entire film. The direction was very interesting. This is the first I have seen from this director & I would love to watch more from him. The way he let the screen stay on the character's faces & let us see how they were reacting to what the other was saying (without showing us how the dialogue was being delivered) was interesting. The frames & the way the actors moved around while the frame was still.. it felt very real & intimate like I was there watching it happen infront of my eyes. His choice to set the mood for danger and fear while not really showing us anything graphic or gory was also fantastic.

All in all, I loved this in every way.

Also can we please see Takahashi Issei in a romantic drama. He was swoony in this.

you just know something's up when someone in the cast gets their crank-up photo early posted on the drama's IG…
Thanks to you, I checked out some of the casts' IG accounts and its nice to see them bond well & have fun shooting. Not a lot of celebs post that many offscreen pics :)

99% of J dramas are fan subbed & these people don't get paid to sub & do it during their free time that's why it takes time for them to be subbed. Many don't even get subbed unfortunately.

Sad truth :(

Sigh I wish someone would sub the whole drama rather than some of the scenes. I love Jasper Liu and Annie Chen so much, and to have them in a project together is so damn awesome.
On Use for My Talent Mar 6, 2021
Gotta watch this for Jasper Liu even though I'm not a fan of the plot. Also I wish this was a Taiwanese production, rather than a Chinese production sigh.
Let's hope this is good.

Decided to give this a try again since I love the Japanese remake but man I ended up dropping it again. It is too melodramatic and draggy. The Japanese one on the other hand is absolutely contemplative & beautiful from the start. Also appreciate that they removed the adultery storyline in the remake.
