I feel sorry to hear about what you went through. Hope you're reaching out & have a good source of support.
I am trying to be comfortable in my own skin & it's hard a lot of times. Criticisms coming from people around me don't help that either. I doubt there's anyone who ever reaches that state of 100% being comfortable with themselves. I have realised it's a process, not an end (as it is promoted)
To be honest, it's not that I don't want to blame society. I actually do. A lot. I hate the standards society imposes, & the way it influences people into following that standard. Social media has made it worse. It's more like I'm trying to convince my ownself not to blame society, & look at what I can do for myself.
1. There are some people who might have started watching this later & thus are commenting on the first few episodes. So don't say stuff like haters are holding on to first few episodes etc
2. This is a public platform & everyone has the right to express their opinions (good/bad) unless they are abusing & name calling for no good reason.
3. Just because majority of the people here LOVE this drama, it doesn't mean that others who don't love it (or even dislike it) are WRONG or have to change their opinions to suit the majority. Please let people be.
4. Just because someone is expressing a negative opinion about this show (whether writing. acting or any other thing they don't like), it doesn't make them a HATER. '
5. It is common to judge a drama on it's first few episodes. No one wants to watch a drama that doesn't interest them. Everyone best knows what they like & don't. Don't decide for others, unless they ask you for your opinion.

You made extremely valid points, and I completely agree with you. I don't know if I am going to make sense as I am zonked at the moment.
The show definitely has taken a done-to-death trope & as much as I wish for sensitivity around this topic, I have no idea really how such a topic can be presented in a way that is sensitive? It's not an easy subject for any screenwriter to write well in my opinion. Or maybe I think this way because I am yet to see it being tackled in a way that was satisfactory?
As much as I said that her beauty was self-perceived, I definitely agree with you that a lot of it came from the way society has conditioned us to think of what is pretty & what is not, and also probably her horrible experiences at school. At the same time, though, I feel like we can't keep blaming society? Because change is always within and that as hard as it is, self love and acceptance often comes with & is a process that one fights while facing criticisms/negativity. So. it's not entirely fair to blame her plight on society.
RE- her hypocrisy. I can totally see where you're coming from & agree to an extent. But personally I loved that hypocrisy and didn't find it odd at all. I may be assuming / exaggerating stats here but like I believe that 80% of this world do have those standards, regardless of which class of society you come from or what kind of experiences you've had. I was fat for a long time in my life, and I hated society for fat-shaming me, but at the same time, I always found myself more attracted to lean men subconsciously, even though consciously I told myself not to judge people by their appearance & weight.
I do hear you in that this is a romance drama, but I hope that romance doesn't become the main plot, and that the focus remains on the FL building confidence, and learning that the world is so much more larger than our appearances, and dating. Fingers crossed!
I've seen her in number of shows but it's not until Nijiro Karute that I fell in love with her. She's absolutely fantastic in it! That is one drama everyone needs to watch.
First, what's the point of remaking this story when people already know the story? The producers do realise that this is a mystery? It won't be FUN to watch another remake. Secondly, I am sorry to say but I hardly ever enjoy Korean remakes. They ruin it for me.
For all its problems, i liked the Korean version better, the ML actor there managed to deliver the character’s…
There's no doubt that Ji Sung is a phenomenal actor but I think that the ML in this has done a good job in bringing out both the good & bad of Kenzaki's character. It's a much more subtle performance unlike the Korean one which was too melodramatic for my taste (I dropped the Korean one few episodes in)

This show makes me long for the sense of community so bad, which is eroding in big cities. I have been living in the same apartment building for more than a decade & I don't even know the name of my neighbours despite passing by them occassionally.
E5 had me crying for the surgeon's loss & turmoil and the nurse's plight. I wanted to give them both a hug so bad. What the villagers did for the nurse warmed my heart. This show just depicts the fragility of human emotion so so well that my tears flow even in the happiest scenes.
I found Rainbow Letter - Nijiiro Karute's platform for people to convey the words of gratitude that they couldn't…
That is BEAUTIFUL! I appreciate whoever that thought of this idea. We need to encourage more people to share how they feel. Thank you so much for sharing <3
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! This is the first Japanese historical fiction I watched and I really enjoyed this from start to finish. It was well produced, well acted, well shot & written well. On to the next season!

This is like Sora & Irino's 'happily ever after' <3
