I would say this is his best role so far! He's such a delight in this role, very different from all his roles so far. For me, his acting in this is the most natural one so far! You don't feel like he (or anyone in this drama) are acting. They feel real. He doesn't have the most screentime, but once you start watching you'll fall in love with all the characters.
Dude it's uncanny how we're watching the same stuff around the same time
Haha nope I had this on my watchlist since last year & randomly decided to start watching this today lol I didn't even realise it's the same FL until I saw the first episode!
Nah, not much different in both but the lack of comedy making me bored watching Mairunovich.
I know & its sad really :( But I was wishing that if not for a punishment, that the bullies would at least reflect on their mistakes & learn not to do that to another person.
I just saw the first 2 episodes and am I the only one who feels that the family is distant? Like Keisuke & Nami…
E3 pretty much quashed everything I said about the family LOL. It's probably their way of letting everyone have the freedom to do what they want, & giving space.
I must add that I hate the way Nami's assistant & parents look down on Keisuke. Think about genders being swapped - at least 80% of women go through this kind of shit everyday. Like why can't people understand that just because a man/woman is unemployed, it doesn't mean that they are the only ones responsible for household chores or taking care of the kids. It is everyone's responsibility in the family to care for one another. I appreciate how his kids & wife are supporting Keisuke's dreams.
I hope that by the end of the drama, Keisuke will learn to speak up & assert himself. I don't like what Nami taught him in that it is ok to not have pride, because that just means letting everyone step over you. If Keisuke was happy with everyone stepping over him, I'd say its ok. But fact is he's not ok. He dislikes it.

Yes it did. I won't deny that. But I found it to be more of a subplot that was resolved quickly rather than the focus of the story itself. Being confident & loving yourself is an ongoing process. The show never really fully addressed the question of society's standards (bullies just went scott free with 2nd ML upping them in bullying) without them really learning & tackling 'true beauty' really was. That disappointed me. Or maybe its my own expectations that I wanted the show to focus on that rather than the love triangle.
Also I found the characters too good to be true, esp the FL.
That's purely my opinion & I don't deny that the show had its cute, adorable moments.

I see. To each his own. I do think the focus of both shows is quite different. True Beauty focused a lot more on the comedy hijinks the FL got herself into & the love triangle while Mairunovich seems to focus more on the FL's character & her gaining confidence
So far from the first episode Mairunovich seems to play upon a lot of overused and outdated tropes. Although the…
The way I saw it, people distanced themselves from her because of her personality & the way she carried herself, not because they saw her as ugly. No one called her ugly and bullied her for being ugly. They used the term 'poisonous mushroom' for her because of the way she glared at people & just acted aloof and scary. That label got attached to her and she never tried to break out of it. In fact, her ugliness was her own perception that she formed based on people's behaviour towards her. She was also bullied because she was a soft target not because she was ugly per se.
And that becomes even more apparent when she has her makeover. Yes she turns heads. But nothing really changes. She doesn't become popular, and neither do popular / conventionally good looking guys start taking interest in her. Her self esteem issues also didn't get fixed in that she almost felt obliged to go out with the first guy that asked her out.
It's also very telling that the first guy who approaches her is not the best looking & she judged him on his looks (despite hating others for judging her on her looks). I love the hypocrisy displayed by her character there, because don't we all do that?
In general, I liked that she wasn't the typical nice FL. She had spunk. She got herself out of the hole, gave it back to the guy who bullied her & decided to give it her all for the mixer. I hope that she won't become too reliant on the ML in the coming episodes and will learn to fly on her own.
One point of comparison that I must make is that the focus of these 2 shows are very different. True Beauty, to me, focused a lot more on the love triangle & comedy hijinks the FL got herself into. The focus of this show seems quite different (even though early to say), emphasizing more on the FL's journey to becoming confident. And that's where I came from when I meant that this show was everything I wished True Beauty was.
I just saw the first 2 episodes and am I the only one who feels that the family is distant? Like Keisuke & Nami are respectful of each other's space and support each other, but there's a distance? She listens to him, and doesn't disrespect him, but she doesn't empathize with him either? It just doesn't feel intimate emotionally & neither do they even seem like partners. They seem more like housemates to me, than family. They even have separate beds. Or are a lot of married couples like that many years into marriage (somebody please enlighten me)
The kids also go to school, come back, have tuition but like there's no real interaction that happens between the kids & parents? It's like everyone is just living their individual lives & are family just on the register.
Anyone that wants to watch something with a similar plot, but has a FL with spunk & better writing (i.e makeup will not fix your self esteem issues or change the world around you) you can consider checking out Mairunovich.

Planning to watch Dele & MIU 404 soon.

Also I love their house, it is so cosy & warm.. all those colours & the decor <3
