We don’t know yet. The secret seems to be related to WanWan, the mentally-impaired Sixth Sister since he stole WanWan’s nanny-caretaker’s bracelet that said “Lan” on it. We don’t know if that magistrate (who was previously LJL’s assistant) is a good guy or bad guy yet.

I too … am so confused.
In rewatching, I now see that old Madam Rong was still deliberating on whether or not to eliminate Yang and He. The decision wasn’t final at the end of ep 8. Apparently, she decided to keep them due to their long family histories, given Yang was at the Tea Ceremony (that final selection ceremony).
