The way episode 9 made me smile!! The friendships. The cute cheerleader outfits (the girls looked like little dolls). The way he couldn’t stop looking at her. Everything about this episode was top tier.

Hot kiss, hot kiss, hot kiss. But, they are interrupted, again, by the roommate. Annoying. But, at least, that keeps them from going too far! Her dad could appreciate that I’m sure. This ML is a really good kisser.

The Director really pulled out the stops in this episode, giving us a fresh and new love scene that I personally have never seen in a cdrama. “Circle of Love” had a kinkier, less endearing bathing scene between the leads. But, the bathing scene here in “Butterflied Lover” is between a married couple who love each other deeply. It’s so beautiful. I watched and rewatched a million times.

Sang Yan comes to Yihe to check out the situation with little sister’s boyfriend. Punches are thrown. Hilarious epilogue. Really funny.

Our boy wastes no time asking for what he wants as soon as they reach official GF/BF status. Heart-fluttering! The essence of the bedroom scene is very true to the sexy original novel, but still retained a sweetness to it and a believable awkwardness because they are both first-timers in a relationship.

Spoilers RSB is imprisoned as a thief when treasure from the Rong Mansion has been found in the mountain on RSB’s plantation. The whole matter was orchestrated by Yunshu and Yang Twin. The corrupt governor seizes the moment to accuse RSB of harboring bandits in an effort to nurse his grudge against her for supporting Madam Yang. (He had really been the one behind the whole Wei/Yang corruption where Madam Yang was the scorned victim, abused by both parties.) This is his moment to finally topple the formidable Rong empire. Yunshu’s hand in this is clear to everyone except Grandma who is now in forced confinement by Yunshu under the guise of “she fainted and needs to rest.” Yunshu refuses to let the sisters see Grandma. Yunshu is the now in control of the household. Mr. Bai pleads with her to quit her coup and gives her an ultimatum—leave with me in three days or else I go to the authorities. Will Yunshu yield?

Emotionally draining episode. So many conniving snakes!Spoilers:RSB comes clean about knowing LJL’s true identity all along. The timing of the confession is striking, almost suspicious, given the return of LJL’s memory. How could she possibly know though that his memory had returned? Does she know? Is this some sort of strategy on her part? Well, let the games of one-upmanship begin because it is now confirmed that LJL was conning RSB from the very get-go when he fell off that cliff. Only thing he didn’t count on was becoming an amnesiac. The villainy and treachery of the suitors, the sisters, and even the servants are peak as the Rong household is thrown into a frenzy when Lady WanWan is found murdered. So many sinister snakes sapping my sanity—SMH! Why would they have conspired to kill simple-minded little Sixth Sister? Did she witness Yang’s murder? Were those her bloody footprints left in the bridal chamber where the murder occurred? Was the culprit trying to silence her for this reason?

Amazing episode! Spoilers below.RSB feels safe with LJL and falls asleep comfortably in his bed. Despite all his cheeky conniving, he’s actually an honorable and principled man. She kisses him, but he does not touch her. He truly wants to marry her in the right and proper way. The household wakes the next morning to find one of the suitors has been murdered. Everyone is questioned about their whereabouts. RSB and her maid are acting sketchy. They are desperate to find the bracelet that was stolen from WanWan’s (Sixth Sister) nanny-caretaker. The sisters rally around Fifth Sister when Mr. He threatened to beat her after learning she had been with the scholar the previous night. LJL gets his memory back when he recognizes the young magistrate sent to investigate the murder.

The ML finds himself thrust in the middle of a large campaign of savage, scheming, and silly suitors vying for Miss Rong Shanbao’s hand in marriage, like an ancient Chinese version of “The Bachelorette” (an American dating competition reality TV show). He originally went to the Rong estate to force old grand Madam Rong into testifying regarding a wife-murder cold case that he’s reopened. Officials, who don’t want this case reopened, plot to silence the ML, Lord Lu, and he falls into amnesia after being run off the road over a cliff. Miss Rong, finding him hurt and unconscious, brings him into her home since she recognizes him immediately. She readily discerns the very sensitive nature of her discovery of Lord Lu in this state. She doesn’t quite know what to make of him though. Was this an accident? Who tried to kill him? Can she trust him? Is he acting? Is he a friend or a foe?

I believe the angst era starts from this point. Beloved characters die because of Prince Li. The General and Crown Prince part ways because she perceives the battle for the throne is too big for her to fight. After all, she can’t fight the emperor himself. That would be treason. What kind of payback will we see from the abandoned Crown Prince after this blow? His mental state is quite stunned and addled from the betrayal.

Jin’an is teaching the Crown Prince how to strategize against his ruthless brother, Prince Li. There was also a warm moment between Jin’an and the General that really should have culminated into a hot kiss, but we only got a sweet peck on the cheek. Man, what’s up with this Director?! I thought we could count on Director Deng Ke for some hot kisses. I mean, c’mon, he directed “Prisoner of Beauty “! Any who, Ryan Chen was looking sooooo sexy in this episode. OMG

This episode gets the vibe back on track after going off the rails with fluffiness in four previous episodes (13-16). We have one swoonworthy hug that has the same vibe and energy that we saw back in epic episodes like 5, 6 and 12. Nothing is too sweet, just right. The way General Li responds to the Crown Prince’s visit—BRAVO. Professional and courteous. The message should be crystal clear to him where they stand with each other.
