sorry but I don't know what the difference between the Chinese & Taiwanese aren't the same language <<…
it seems to be part of the entertainment culture over in that part of asia. there is speculation that the directors will dub if they feel the voice of a certain voice actor will suit the role better.
i'm turning in the recap for 3&4 tomorrow so the caption contest will close at noon eastern standard time (usa)! there are some really good ones here too!
i'm really liking this too, i will say i didnt expect much since it felt more like FBRS (i've watched it twice) than SUFBB (i am still too agrieved about Byung Hee to finsish)and lets face it FBRS wasnt that awesome from a story telling or acting stand point. here we have a two leads that are practically aliens to the world of drama. Enrique and Dok Mi are, as of now, two of the least cliche character's i've seen in drama to date. Enrique is a genuinely kind happy person and though Dok Mi might seem like just another helpless drama heroine at 1st glance, as you get to know her she is much much more. i want to find the person who wrote these two and kiss them!
THIS post is awesome. Thank you. I might even try^^ Though I think using Coffe Prince as referring to kdrama tropes…
it's not so much that coffee prince is cliche. in Coffee Prince, as in all gener benders, the writers present you with what is supposed to be a "reasonable" motivation for the leading lady to be lying to those around her. they do this so you sympathize with her. in Coffee Prince, the reason given is that she needs to pretend to be a guy to get and keep her job. even before the Coffee shop, it is implied that it's easier for her to work when people assume she's a guy. Most western people who dont know alot about Korean culture arent likely to understand how much easier it is for Eun Chan if she's a guy, b/c they have lived in a relatively equal society. it can be difficult to wrap your brain around a concept so foriegn, so it maybe best to leave those sorts of dramas for later.
The first drama my mom watched was Autumn's Concerto and she liked it...my first was the Japanese drama Life but…
i think with older women certain t-dramas, like AC, would probably be a good foot in the door since most of them grew up in the golden age of the american soap opera. Even a 29 yo like me is more open to them b/c i spent my childhood watching soaps after lunch with my grandmother.
btw guys, if you're looking for a drama that was a sequel or a time travel romcom, then they may be included in one of those YIR articles, i didnt repeat so i could discuss as many dramas as possible. also these are only korean, i think some one else is going to do YIR for c/j/t dramas.
i dont know why but my computer wont let me reply to comments! @ dapinamyrs, i actually didnt watch ohhlala couple.though i really liked secret garden, the whole body switch thing was my least favorite part about, it actaully almost killed the drama for me. i was hesitant to watch another with the same gimmick. had the reviews been universally stellar i would have given it a spin.
i do consider it a rom-com. i purposely left it out b/c i wanted to keep the list around 5ish so as not to be too long. i felt i had more interesting things to say about the other dramas. P&H was just sort of "meh". there is a big long list of "meh" romcoms this year, 12 men in a year, the 1,000th man, and glowing she just to name a few. none of them were great, but none of them were bad enough to warrant a mention on suckage alone!that's a whole other article "who are you and what did you do with the good romcom writer?" lol
aside from VP all of these are Cotton Candy dramas, so i didnt expect much beyond cute and sweet.
Full house take 2 didnt resemble the 1st in any way, but it did have more than just a name in common with the 1st, they also both had famous main characters, a contract relationship and some one who lost their beloved childhood home in common.
with DH2, i didnt think the 1st was that awesome so the bar wasnt set very high!
