But remember, Ying Yuan made a deal with Ying De. He told Ying De that he "would never" expose her crimes if she doesnt reveal his relationship with Yan Dan. So that instead of the love punishment, Yan dan would only get the lightning punishment. But knowing Ying de, she definitely lied and wont follow the deal with Ying yuan.
You cant call it "just being suicidal" since her feelings were valid. She even tried to hide her feelings around heartless people. But then Ying de and Zhi Xi kept on provoking her and that was what made her snap and drown in extreme depression.
