XK gets dubbed because his line delivery isn't good. Even here in a modern drama, sometimes feel that he's reciting the script. He wasn't trained in acting, so his line delivery needs improvement. His putonghua is "rougher" than what cdramas want, but it's mostly okay for modern dramas. For costume dramas, he needs to level up! There are actors that have stronger accents than XK, but they change their accents and tones to fit the character. It's called ACTING.

I don't remember they talking about partnership. He only told Xiao Zhao that he was open for other job opportunities and that maybe they'd be colleagues again. XZ later joined a law firm. So unless the guy who shaked his hands at the law firm was his ex-colleague, I don't think they formed a partnership.
