Haha, I was also annoyed in the beginning and only watched because a lot of people were saying it's the best show and so on. It actually was not that funny and I even had some tears by the end. But the thought I had while watching it is that people probably like to watch time traveling shows because they feel superior to the people in the past. Same thing with Dr. Jin. Was it like this with queen in hyuns man?

Well, in the US there is a strong Asian population and people follow Asian trends. Also, all these companies are from US, like viki and dramafeaver. There are also other sites like dramacrazy.net and mysoju... Where do you usually buy the dramas? BTW, if you can not watch kdramas on viki, just get a VPN and the problem is solved.
So you're a student? What are you studying?

The problem with Bad Guy is that the main actor was supposed to start his military service during filming. So they had to do something with the plot to accommodate it. They shortened the drama from 20 to 17 episodes and the main character wasn't really there since episode 15. So the whole story felt unfinished. Kind of like there are problems with the plot in MSOAN, but at least the leads there will stay till the end and will pull the drama up. Also, Bad Guy and MSOAN share the same second male lead. I've concluded, he is awesome. If you haven't watched Antique Bakery, he is there at his best.
For the first jdrama, I started watching Pride. It's very different from kdramas. There is no love triangle, everything seems very real, but so far it feels a bit old (it was done in 2004). Which one do you think of watching first?

That's no problem, you can talk as much as you want :) I like talking about dramas too. I liked Gong Yoo in Coffee prince as well, even though I don't think he is the most hansom male actor out there. I was kind of tempted to watch Big, but then there were all these bad reviews of it, so I wasn't sure. But which one of the 2 do you like more?

I actually thought the couple of episodes where they "killed off" the main guy were great. But then he returned and looked more like a mannequin, plus all the tragic and melodramatic moves. It was not good at all. I think I'll have to watch Queen SeonDuk to shake off the bad image at some point.
So, to watch dramas you're streaming? Where are you streaming from? I know that viki does not really work outside of the US. I'm constantly looking for the sites to watch since I spend a lot of time outside. I usually download so that I don't have to rely on connection, but there are some dramas I can not find downloads for.

Hi Clara! I was actually thinking to watch that drama, this is great that you told me, just confirms that I really should. I see you like the fantasy dramas, how come you dropped Rooftop Prince?

Hi tlkdrama2me, I've been doing fine, but a little busy. So I didn't have too much drama watching. But I did finish Bad Guy. I wasn't a big fan of it, too melodramatic and story was obviously unfinished. I see Reply 1997 is very popular on this site. I've never noticed it on other sites. Why is it your favorite? I decided to try a Japanese drama for the first time, will see how it goes. BTW, the main female lead in MSOAN is apparently a good actress. I also saw her in Autumn Tale (if you're up for the very classic, what kdrama is all about, then it's that). She was actually very cute there. But now pressure about MSOAN, it's unclear whether you like it or not :)

Hi Clara, thanks for accepting my friend request. We have quite a few items in common in the favorite section. I'm always looking for suggestions about what to watch next, what is your current favorite?

I agree, Faith is improving, but not to 10. I see you started The Devil. I'm considering it too, but what do you think about it?

Haha, I agree that the lead girl should matter. Now that you said that, I was thinking about the dramas I watched to see if the main character actually mattered. I just finished Bad Guy, and the lead girl didn't matter too! In fact, when they "killed off" the main guy the show improved so much! Ha!
Anyway, are you still in the drama rejection mood?

Hi Bladey, have you been watching lots in the last week that I haven't spoken to you? Picking up our previous conversation about Asian people, I think the difference is that in the west we see only a small subset of Asians. I personally mostly interact with educated and/or wealthy, so it's a big difference for me what I see in Asia actually. There are a lot of loud and obnoxious people in Asia and there are a lot of people who are not shy of telling things into your face (like comments about your age, weight, what you should and shouldn't do). So, it's quite realistic in the dramas.
BTW, I finally finished Bad Guy. I feel like great acting was wasted on not so great plot. Trying to watch my 1st jdrama. Thanks for recommendation.

I'm still considering whether to watch Big. I read some mixed reviews about that one. What do you think?

Now that you mentioned it, don juan is the right description of the main guy in Bad Guy. Seriously, I'm averaging 0.5 episodes a day at this point. It's too stressful.
About Asians, I don't want to generalize, but most whom I see in the US behave quite comparable to everyone else. In Asia though, it's a big difference. That's why I don't think loud and obnoxious parent characters are inventions of dramas.
Watching dramas for 5-6 years takes patience, but also you've probably developed judgmental shortcuts about the dramas which creates bias. Probably that's why I don't see some popular dramas on you completed list.

Ha, sure. It'll be funny if you actually like it. I have a suspicion that if you black out the main girl for the first few episodes, then it'll be fine, cheesy alright. And the OST is pretty good.
But what's wrong with City Hunter? The girl there is not weak and she does not really matter.

Haha, yes, boys looking like girls is definitely a trend. But what's strange is that girls also want to be androgynous. Not sure what it really means. I once read a news about some female kpop star and it said something like "She looks so beautiful, so androgynous". So like a boy I wonder?
About You're beautiful, it wasn't really a recommendation. I was just curious. Most people rank MSOAN below it, but you went the other way. But if you do watch it, let me know how you rank it.
I was thinking to pick up a drama that I rejected for the cheesy stupidity before. I guess I'm just overloaded with tragic and serious dramas at this point. So you're sticking with Vampire Prosecutor?

Time to watch Personal Preference ;) Ha, just joking :) I can see how it's tiring to watch. I'm barely making it though Bad Guy right now. The events are just too painful to watch, even though I like the drama overall. I think I'll have to watch something light after that. Or maybe something Western as well. How long have you been watching Asian dramas?

But yes, some Asian old women are a special category in real life. They somehow feel ok to say things into your face that should not be said.

So, how is Faith going? Are you still enjoying it? I think it's improving for me. I also noticed, that actually the lead girl is a pretty good actress. Have you seen her anywhere before?

I'm still trying to figure out if not saying things is cultural or people just being stupid. It might be cultural, as in many Asians don't like to be confrontational. But there are also these annoying parent characters who do say too much. I just wonder when do they turn from obedient and silent children to loud and obnoxious parents. Like in Bad Guy, they introduced the mother of the lead girl. I though no one annoyed me in this drama, but no, this mother made it. I just don't see how people can be so extremely pushy and not considerate. Actually, I thought it was only in dramas, but I see this kind of people in Asia a lot, so it's not that big of a stretch.
Have you tried watching Reply 1997?

I see. I thought about the lead girl not looking like a boy and how everybody could not see it. But then I thought maybe I just don't know how Asian boys of 18 year old look like in Asia. Have you seen what those Korean brands sell in department stores for guys? I mean pink and bright yellow is not particularly manly. And many of the actual boy band guys do look androgynous. In fact, I think it's the trend now in Korea, to be androgynous.
So, after I concluded all that, I proceeded watching the show and really enjoyed the OST. Maybe you could too?
